Yoko Ono: Though Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono have long been said to have a frosty relationship, John Lennon's widow has some warm words for McCartney's recent ex, Heather Mills.

"All I can say is, it's not very easy for a woman to be associated with The Beatles," Ono, 75, tells Britain's Sky News. "I think all the wives did suffer, and I think quietly suffer. Suffer but endured, I would actually say."

Moving forward, Ono advises Mills, 40, to "do her very best and try to survive".

Ono made the comments while visiting The Beatles' hometown of Liverpool, and added: "I'd not just say to her but to Paul too, it's a very difficult situation for any couple to go through, especially for people who are really out in the world and their every movement is being observed."

She expressed sympathy for McCartney, 65. "I'm very sorry for him to have had to go through all that," said Ono. "I haven't spoken to him about that, but it's a subject which he probably doesn't want to discuss with other people."

In addition, Ono touched upon the delicate subject of her husband's assassin, Mark David Chapman, who is up for parole this year. (Chapman fatally shot Lennon outside his New York apartment in 1980.)

"I think that it's a very hard subject for me to deal with," Ono said of Chapman's possible release. "All things considered it's very dangerous for him to come out because there's so many people who feel badly about what happened."
