Will Golden Globes champs repeat at the Oscars?

Academy Awards: Minutes after the Golden Globes last night, I tapped my Envelope colleague Pete Hammond and USA Today scribe Anthony Breznican for their views on what impact the award results might have on the Oscars. Please pardon the jittery camera action of the video with Anthony. I enlisted each journo to hold the camera for the other while I took turns gabbing with them and Pete, apparently, got a bit carried away playing with the zoom switch. And jiggling the camera to make it look as if it had been s Read full story at goldderby.latimes.com

The Golden Globe Winners: The Right Choices?
I didn’t bother watching the Golden Globes on Sunday, generally because I don’t watch the Golden Globes ever. I remember tuning in a few years ago and thinking that it was one of the most boring award shows I’ve watched (then again, I generally only watch the Oscars). That being said, I was actually planning on watching the Golden Globes this year, but then it donned on me:

‘Slumdog Millionaire’ Movie Review
Slumdog Millionaire is unlikely to need any introduction as it’s been making headlines since it was first shown to wide-eyed audiences at film festivals late last year. Then came the Oscar nomination talk, which has been empowered by the film winning four Golden Globes. I was lucky enough to see the movie last night after it went on general release here in the UK at the weekend. In the U.S. it’s still only had a limited release run, which is a disaster for a movie that is on most people’

Top 5 Tuesdays (T5T) Is Boom Or Bust in 2008
Alright, we're still reflecting right? Right? Or have we just thrown 2008 into the toilet along with some poo poo. I'd like to think that with the Golden Globes just ending and the Oscars upcoming that we're still thinking on the past year. So with that being said, give me your Top 5 Best or Worst movie moments of 2008. Could be movies. Scenes in movies. An actor doing something great or something stupid. Could be all good things. All bad things. Or a nicely seasoned mixture of the two with a side of sour d

The Golden Globes: Too Much Kate, Not Enough Ricky and an Actual Oscar Race
For all the problems we have with The Golden Globes--they're haphazardly produced, completely ridiculous and totally second rate--we cannot stress how much fun it is to watch them each year. Mostly, that has to do with the fact that the stars drink during the ceremony. A lot. Last night, after Slumdog Millionaire won for Best Screenplay, the camera cut to a relaxed looking Brad Pitt, who leaned over to Angelina Jolie and asked, "What was that for?" Do you think you'd see something like that at the Oscars? W

'Slumdog,' Winslet Dominate Golden Globes
Though they aren't the same voting pool, The Golden Globes can be a predictor of the Academy Awards, and this year, it's looking more and more like there will be a lot of symmetry where the major awards are concerned. Slumdog Millionaire took home four Globes - Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Score - and won in every category in which it was nominated. The film was already no lower than second place on most people's scorecards for the Oscars, but it is now the unquestioned frontrun

Golden Globes: Feeling the love
As I curled on the couch in the wee small hours of the morning, watching last night’s Golden Globes telecast with only a hot toddy and a handful of chatty IC commenters for company, it occurred to me that I was hearing any awful lot of one word as the evening unfolded. And that word [...]

Backseat Cuddler’s 66th Golden Globe Awards Predictions
The Golden Globe Awards for this year have arrived. In just a little under three hours the show will start. I decided I would try and predict who I think I will win. (Note: This is just for fun, I really may or may not know what I am talking about.) And during the show you can catch me live-blogging here .

Fan Rant: 'Slumdog' and Other Backlashes
Any film that is met with general acclaim and enthusiasm is also bound to be met with something else: a backlash. It's usually a combination of people who genuinely just didn't like the movie, and people who bristle at its popularity and go out of their way not to like it. You can tell the latter group because the more awards the film wins, the more they hate the movie -- as if being lauded somehow makes the film worse. I've never understood this reasoning. "I watched it a few months ago and it was terrible

Golden Globes
The 66th Annual Golden Globes Awards are now history. Any hits or misses, in your view? I was shocked but happy to see Mickey Rourke win for Best Actor for "The Wrestler." I think he was, too. And tearful Kate Winslet was charming when she gave her speech for winning Best Actress. Here’s the [...]

Angelina Jolie, who has been lying low since the birth of her 5-month-old twins, is thinking about a brief return to film, but very brief. Oscar Predictions: Ours and Yours
The Golden Globes have been handed out, and the last of Oscar ballots are to be postmarked by today. So, that’s it, the nominations for the 81st Academy Awards are being figured out as we speak, and campaigning is over until the official contenders are announced on January 22. Hopefully a few Academy members took notice of our unlikely last-minute suggestions , but it’s more probable that we’ll be looking at an unsurprising crop of films represented in the major eight categories. As you&#
