Will 'Dark Knight' hit the $500 million mark?

Ben Stiller: It may not be Batman, but Tropic Thunder just keeps rolling. The Ben Stiller Hollywood spoof will likely fend off a new round of newcomers this weekend, the biggest challenge coming from Vin Diesel's sci-fi adventure Babylon A.D. Look for Thunder to strike at about $16 million, while Babylon should do about $13 over the four-day holiday. Disaster Movie, the latest skewering of all things pop culture, should come in at third with $12 million, while the goofball comedy should debut low in the top 10 with about $8 million. Dark Knight should cross the $500 million mark this weekend, only the second film (behind Titanic) to do so. Posted at 12:16 PM/ET, August 28, 2008 in Box office buzz | Permalink

Starring Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr., Thunder managed to come away with a $16.1 million this weekend, dropping 37% from last week. Ben Stiller Says Planned 'Tropic Thunder' Boycott Is Unwarranted
One of the characters in Ben Stiller's "Tropic Thunder" is an Australian actor who undergoes a deep-tissue pigmentation to become black. One is an overweight, drug-addled comic who seems to speak only in farts. Stiller and company have navigated plenty of minefields in their new Hollywood satire, and the unlikeliest one of all might trip them up. A consortium of disability groups has called for a national boycott of the highly anticipated war spoof because of what they see as open ridicule of the mental

Groups Weigh Boycott of 'Tropic Thunder'
A coalition of disabilities groups is expected as early as Monday to call for a national boycott of the film “Tropic Thunder” because of what the groups consider the movie’s open ridicule of the intellectually disabled. The film, a movie-industry spoof directed by Ben Stiller, is set for release on Wednesday by Paramount Pictures and its DreamWorks unit. “Not only might it happen, it will happen,” Timothy P. Shriver, chairman of the Special Olympics, said of the expected push for a boycott.

New Film Tests Crudity’s Limits
Ben Stiller slurps gore from a human head. Robert Downey Jr. wears Blackface throughout. Both milk an extended gag about Hollywood’s weakness for what they impolitely call retards. And the film was not cheap. “Tropic Thunder,” an R-rated movie-industry spoof set to open on Aug. 13, is shaping up as an unusual parting gift to Paramount Pictures from Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and Stacey Snider. The three are expected to leave Paramount shortly over dissatisfaction with its handling of their D

The "Tropic Thunder" boys interviewed for EW. Some excerpts: Entertainment Weekly: This movie mercilessly ridicules the self-important aspects of acting. Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. is staying with the superhero genre that's given him his big comeback with potential upcoming project Master Mind.
