Randy Newman: On the eve of the Democratic and Republican conventions, Blender polled

10. Smoke Gets In Your Eyes The Platters
Do these guys have time for music?Girl Talk: Candidates all seem like robots and machines. It's funny to think about them listening to these songs gearing up for a debate.
ABBA?Randy Newman: I find them irresistible. Listening to "Dancing Queen" alone too many times, though, would be suspicious.
GT: I mixed
ABBA in on a previous album.
McCain should check it out.
Better Sinatra song?GT:
McCain went with the more obvious pick, but if you wanna be a big dog, you should go with the biggest hit.
Why'd they both pick Frankie Blue Eyes? RN: It says a lot about the long ride
Sinatra got out of being phenomenal for two years in the '40s.
Weirdest pick?GT: I couldn't tell if it was cool or creepy for
Obama to have "Yes We Can." Maybe he's in love with himself and wants to hear his speeches over and over as collaged by
will.i.am.
Any snubs?RN: The Beatles! Also, Streisand's not on there; that's more of a
McCain pick.
McCain: Hip? Or hip replacement? GT: It's easy to knock
McCain for being old, but I love meeting old people who know about music.
Who gets your vote based solely on this list? GT: If there's a candidate with Fugees "Ready or Not" on his list, I have to vote for him.
RN:
McCain has a really likeable list. Then again,
Hitler liked some good music, you know?

Musician Randy Newman likens McCain to Hitler
Whoa! Maybe this is a reflection of the low circulation of Blender magazine, but somehow Randy Newman seems to have gotten away with comparing Republican presidential nominee John McCain with Adolf Hitler!
In a recent Blender piece on Barack Obama's and McCain's musical tastes, musician/composer/songwriter Randy Newman and mash-up DJ Girl Talk were asked to comment and analyze what the presidential candidates' top 10 picks said about them.
Most of the interview seems innocuous enough, with Newman dro
Is a John McCain-Daddy Yankee ticket forthcoming?
His new campaign ad mocks Barack Obama for being a celebrity, but John McCain spent his weekend meeting with an unusual range of celebs himself.
On Friday night he stopped by a free concert in Panama City, Fla., given by country singer John Rich, who unveiled his new song, "Raising McCain," as the Republican presidential candidate's Straight Talk Express pulled up.
Today the Arizona senator is expected to meet with Frederick W. and Kimberly Kagan, inside-the-Beltway neoconservative luminaries. Frederi

Running While BlackE-MAILPRINTSAVESHAREBy BOB HERBERTPublished: August 2, 2008Gee, I wonder why, if you have a black man running for high public office — say, Barack Obama or Harold Ford — the opposition feels compelled to run low-life political ads featuring tacky, sexually provocative white women who have no connection whatsoever to the black male candidates.Go to Columnist Page »Spare me any more drivel about the high-mindedness of John McCain. You knew something was up back in March when, in his fi
In Case You Missed It: "It’s Time For Education Reform"
It's Time For Education Reform By John McCain New York Daily News August 3rd 2008, 7:50 PM Read the Article Campaigning at town halls across America, I am often asked about my plans to reform our public schools. And the answer begins with two points on which most everyone agrees: Every public school child deserves a first-rate education. And too many of our schools are producing second-rate results. Beyond that, the education debate divides quickly into two camps. Some say all that's needed is more tax
Ludacris' Obama song unlikely to alienate voters
Ludacris' new song, "Politics as Usual," may have cost him one of his biggest fans, Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama.
And for good reason: It points up the dilemma facing the nation's potential first black president, who wants the support of the influential hip-hop community but needs to steer clear of the controversy so commonly associated with its music.
Ludacris' "Politics as Usual" alludes to an imminent victory for Obama by handing out major put-downs to his rivals. It dismisses Hilla
Paris Hilton is pissed!
Paris Hilton is pissed at John McCain! She's blasted the McCain camp for using her image without permission in his attack ad against Barack Obama.
In the ad (which you can see below), McCain attacks Obama for being the "biggest celebrity in the world," and flashes an image of Paris, but then questions whether Obama is "ready to lead."
But Paris never gave her permission for her likeness to be used, and is in no way affiliated with the McCain camp (though her parents, Rick and Kathy Hilton, have contri
Obama rejects Ludacris rap lyrics
A song by rap star Ludacris criticising Barack Obama's opponents has been called "outrageously offensive" by the US presidential candidate's campaign.
Politics As Usual calls President Bush "mentally handicapped", and insults both Hillary Clinton and John McCain.
"Ludacris is a talented individual but he should be ashamed of these lyrics," said Mr Obama's spokesman Bill Burton.
The rap star's publicist initially declined to comment, reported the Associated Press.

The race card: Did Obama play it or is McCain playing games?
John McCain thinks Barack Obama is playing the race card.
The Republican presidential candidate and his staff were upset by a comment Obama made on the campaign trail.
During a campaign speech, the Illinois Democrat told supporters Republicans were trying to make voters scared of him.
“What they’re saying is, well, we know we’re not very good, but you can’t risk electing Obama. You know, he’s new, he’s — he doesn’t look like the other presidents on the currency. He — you know,
"Senator Evan Bayh Confirms That Barack Obama Does Not Support Offshore Drilling"
"[Barack Obama] believes [offshore drilling] is not really the short-term or long-term answer to the problem." -- Senator Evan BayhSenator Evan Bayh (D-IN)MSNBC's "Morning Joe"August 6, 2008 MSNBC's Joe Scarborough: "Let me bring in Evan Bayh and give him a chance to talk about this also -- offshore oil drilling. Joss to sing for Barack Obama
BRITISH soul star Joss Stone is writing a song backing Barack Obama’s bid to be US president.
Fan Mr Obama, 47, has asked the 21-year-old singer to record a one-off track as the theme to his election campaign.
Devon-born Joss is currently in the studio getting the song ready for November’s election battle with Republican senator John McCain.
Democrat candidate Mr Obama approached her personally because he was impressed by her appeal to both black and white voters in America.

Paris fights back, and is pretty witty doing it...check out the video!!
Thanks to John McCain, Paris Hilton realizes that she's, like, totally ready to lead!
The seemingly oblivious heiress has taped a response, posted on FunnyOrDie.com, to the new McCain ad comparing Barack Obama to paparazzi magnets like Paris and Britney Spears.
And, well...it's pretty funny.
In the video, Paris introduces herself as a celebrity—like McCain, who's "old enough to remember when dancing was a sin."
"I'm a celebrity, too. Only I'm not from the olden days, and I'm not promising change like

N.Y. Sex Scandal: 'Kristen''s Pop-Music Dreams
Before her link to New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, Ashley Alexandra Dupré was a 22-year-old New Jersey girl with a MySpace page and a pop-music dream.
And now, her music is getting plenty of exposure – though presumably not in a way she would have preferred.
Dupré's MySpace page had more than 5 million profile views – and growing – as of Thursday. There's been inflation, too, on her artist's page on the music site Amie Street.
Before the scandal, her single "What We Want" could be procured
New Stamp Puts Sinatra Back in the Spotlight
The United States Postal Service releases its commemorative Frank Sinatra stamp Tuesday — one day before the 10th anniversary of the singer's death.
Sinatra's family will mark the release with ceremonies in New York, Las Vegas and in Hoboken, N.J., where the Chairman of the Board was born.
The image chosen for the 42-cent stamp is based on a 1950s photo of the singer and shows Sinatra wearing his trademark fedora — and a big smile.
Sinatra's daughter Nancy says she was thrilled about the choic
The Abortion debate-ProChoice or ProLife?
Yep, I'm going there. My last blog brought up quite the abortion debate. I myself am pro-choice. There are thousands of babies that people dont want, get abused, and turn out to be the scum of the earth when they grow up. Why should we add to that? I personally believe that until the central nervous system develops, it is NOT killing a baby. It doesn't even look like a baby by then. Just an alien blob! I am lucky because I have never, nor will I ever be faced with the desicion of abortion (unless I am rape
Obama or McCain?
Yep, I went there. I want to know who you guys are voting for! I am NOT going to tolerate people bashing each other, or calling Obama a terrorrist, etc.
As most of you know, I am voting for Obama. I am not a fan of republican views (look where it's got us now!) and am ready for a democrat in office. Sure, I will lose money out of it, because voting republican would probably HELP my pocket book, but voting for Obama helps my family, who are a bunch of blue collar badasses.
I was shocked at how republicans

The Terror Gang Both Barack Obama and John McCain are chomping at the bit to use military force, a strategy that, according to a recent Rand center report, is effective only 7% of the time. The study also asserts "there is no battlefield soluton to terrorism," (AP) that the phrase "war on terror" only perpetuates what is essentially a criminal act, and what we already know, that there is no such thing as a terror "war." Indeed, the think tank financed by tax dollars says good intelligence, and policing, are

Scarlett Johansson embarrassed by Obama emails
"It seemed to me to be like a product of extreme sexism, and I kept thinking to myself, 'God, if this was just, like, Kal Penn or George Clooney or any of the other (Obama) surrogates or supporters ... there wouldn't be (any) question about it. Nobody would even talk about it," she said.
Aww poor Scarlett. I can think of many other things to be embarrassed about. E-mails, between yourself and the first black presidential contender is not something to sneeze at. I would be honored. Wake up girl. What are
