George Bush: Around the world, nostalgia for George W. Bush's foreign diplomacy might be in short supply these days. But not long ago, Fareed Zakaria, the editor of Newsweek International and the host of CNN's world affairs program GPS, listened with curiosity as one foreign head of state spoke wistfully of the bygone era of the 43rd president of the United States. “President George Bush is a great person,” said Hamid Karzai, the president of Afghanistan. “I have a lot of respect for him.” Read full story at www.observer.com

Randall Amster: Obama's Economic Paradox: Can You Have "Bailout" and "Stimulus" at the Same Time?
By now the next phase of the "stimulus-bailout" plan is ready to be implemented. This version totals around $800 billion, plus interest that brings it to over a trillion dollars. Republicans stand aghast in near-unison, lambasting the plan variously as "closet socialism," "larded with pork," and insufficiently stimulative (arguing in essence that "it could take a few years for any benefits to materialize"). President Obama and the Democrats argue (a la George W. Bush, ironically) that the...

Oval Office dress: Obama, W, Clinton...
by Mark Silva So, little more than a day after Andy Card, former chief of staff for former President Bush, blasts President Obama for breaking the Bush dress code - jacket and tie in the Oval Office, please - out comes a photo of a jacketless Bush in the Oval Office.

A Deflated President [Pic Of The Night]
This is George W. Bush before a final, untelevised goodbye to staff. Two more expressions Reuters photographer Jim Bourg had never "seen on George Bush’s face in my life" after the jump.Bourg snapped Bush as he returned to the scene of his last presidential address to the nation. Bush first exited through those doors behind him, then came back after the TV cameras were off. Bourg told his editor, "If he wasn’t just back there behind that door crying, I don’t know what that look on his face is." [via

The Ugly Woman George Bush Would Never Have Sexed [Passive Aggressive]
newVideoPlayer("/bush_uglyjoke_gawker.flv", 506, 423,""); George Bush Sr. told a joke about the "ugliest woman I've ever seen," who he'd never screw. Bill Clinton passive-aggressively called him out with a "joke" of his own.Bush's little story, about an abortion-rights protester, won him Wonkette's fiercely-contested "Pig of the Day" award, a selection we wholeheartedly endorse. But the old guy isn't running for anything, and seems to have given up on any other Bush being president, ever again, so what doe

Politicization Alert: Matthew Miller to Justice?
Remember when Democrats screeched about the politicization at the Department of Justice when George Bush replaced nine at-will political appointees?

Pig Of The Day: GEORGE BUSH SENIOR
GAHH, here’s an insane joke from ancient oil baron George H.W. Bush about how he ran into “one of the ugliest, angriest women I’ve ever seen,” some lady who loved abortion, the punchline being that he would never in a million years have fucked her. Then Bill Clinton speaks — they were doing one of their little field trips together? — in awe of Bush’s ability to get away with that kind of humor, because, uh, George Bush Sr. never cheated on his wife (hehe

Ahmadinejad: Say Sorry
Former President Bush’s enemies have so far seemed eager to make nice with President Obama (see Russia’s scrapping of missile plans today), but it looks like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is going to spoil the fun. The Iranian President addressed crowds in Khermenshah today, saying, "Those who speak of change must apologize to the Iranian people and try to repair their past crimes," alluding to Obama's recent interview on Al Arabiya, in which the president said “[if] countries like Iran

Couric mixes music stars with inauguration (AP)
NEW YORK – Imagine what might have happened to Katie Couric a couple of weeks ago if she hadn't kept her briefing books straight. Tuesday she interviewed Lil Wayne , bowling with him and inviting the rap superstar to watch from the control room as she anchored the " CBS Evening News ." Wednesday she talked to President Obama. Thursday she did reported news outside on a frigid night overlooking the Hudson River landing site of a damaged jet, and an

7-Eleven coffee drinkers voice their pick for U.S. president in the informal poll by simply pouring their coffee into a red cup if they intend on voting for Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain or into a blue cup for Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama. The stores polls open Wednesday and run through November 4th. Undecided voters can simply choose an unmarked 7-Eleven cup for their morning Joe. 7-Eleven stores also are offering bipartisan red, white and blue Big Gulp cups for consumers. 7-El

Salman Rushdie Is Dating Pia Glenn?!? What The Hell?
Photo Credit: INF Photo.com Is it just me or does Salman Rushdie look like a really, really kinky bastard ?! 'You're Welcome America' starring Will Ferrell finally opened on Broadway last night. I caught a preview showing back in January & I have to admit, it's fucking hilarious . I know some of you bastards hate Will Ferrell with a passion, but the guy is a true genius when it comes to his George Bush humor. The cast list is tiny, but Pia Glenn's impersonation of Condi...

"We Support George McCain For President"
For our last post about the RNC (thank The Lord Jesus That Watches Over Conservatives for that!), we wanted to show you a video that we think summarizes the feelings on the floor of the entire convention. Those feelings, conveniently, can be melted down to one line: some Republicans are staunch in their support of Bush and McCain, while others just wanted America to forget about Junior...This video is one in which I, Scanner Brian, must, in the interest of full disclosure, admit I was participant (I g

Obama's Canada Trip: Can He Undo Bush's Damage?
OTTAWA -- When then-U.S. President George W. Bush took office in 2001, he chose Mexico instead of Canada for his first foreign visit, and relations with Canada suffered throughout his presidency. To heap the decline of Canada-U.S. relations entirely at the feet of his decision to go south rather than north is overly simplistic. Instead, taken in retrospect, it was a harbinger of a polarization between the two largest trading partners in the world. Now, new U.S. President Barack Obama is...

Karzai, Obama talk for 1st time since inauguration
KABUL – Presidents Hamid Karzai and Barack Obama spoke on the phone for the first time exactly four weeks after Obama's inauguration, Karzai's office said Wednesday. The two presidents spoke about security issues and Afghanistan's presidential elections in August, Karzai's office said. Obama called the Afghan leader Tuesday, the same day Obama announced he was deploying an additional 17,000 U.S. forces to Afghanistan to bolster the 33,000 already in the country. Karzai admitted last week...

Mission accomplished! Will Ferrell is stupid good as former president George W. Bush on Broadway
Who would have guessed that old Mr. Unpopularity, George W. Bush, would be packing them in on Broadway? Then again, it's got next to nada to do with Dubya and everything to do with the actor playing him, Will Ferrell, who's been spoofing the President since his days at "Saturday Night Live." Getting to see this comic whiz in the flesh is a big treat, and the fact that Ferrell has been able to squeeze so many fresh yuks from the beleaguered Bush legacy speaks to his always off-kilter, sometimes raunchy,

Barack Obama’s first moments in the Oval Office as President
Barack Obama entered the Oval Office as president for the first time Wednesday morning at around 8:35 a.m., according to Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. It was a later arrival than his predecessor, George Bush, who was often in the Oval Office before 7:00 a.m. But President Obama had a late night Tuesday, returning to the White [...]

Bette Midler lends her support to Barack Obama.
Bette Midler has blamed the U.S government for the current credit crisis and has pledged her allegiance to presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s campaign. The star has vowed to support the Democratic presidential candidate in the elections next month because she can no longer live under a Republican government, currently led by George W. Bush. She says, “The Republicans have really bought us to our knees. I hope people remember what the last eight years were like when they vote. Now we’re in the m

Gore: Obama stimulus good for climate
by Frank James Former Vice President Al Gore was on Capitol Hill today delivering more of his inconvenient truths. He did an updated version of his documentary for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. That meant the last two unsuccessful Democratic presidential nominees faced each other across the table since the panel is chaired by Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) who lost to former President George Bush in 2004 four years after Gore suffered the same fate. Gore no longer had an adversarial...

Monument to Bush shoe-throwing shines at Iraqi orphanage
A huge sculpture of the footwear hurled at President Bush in December during a trip to Iraq has been unveiled in a ceremony at the Tikrit Orphanage complex. Assisted by children at the home, sculptor Laith al-Amiri erected a brown replica of one of the shoes hurled at Bush and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki by journalist Muntadhir al-Zaidi during a press conference in Baghdad. Al-Zaidi was jailed for his actions, and a trial is pending. But his angry gesture touched a defiant nerve throughou...

The Pentagon Memorial park is inscribed with one-hundred and eighty-four memorial units. Each unit is dedicated to an individual victim - its placement an

Obama speech a big ratings draw
President Obama's first primetime news conference averaged 49.5 million viewers Monday on eight combined broadcast and cable networks, according to estimates from Nielsen Media Research. While a big number by today's standards, the 49.5 million pales in comparison to the 64.3 million that watched President Clinton in his first-month press conference in February 1993, or the 64.8 million viewers for President Bush's press conference on Oct. 11, 2001 – one month following the Sept. 11 terrorist

George Bush Suicidal Says Globe Magazine
As always, Globe does its thing and does it well. It has a great photo coupled with a dramatic headline. My question is this? Is George W. Bush’s therapist on the payroll? How did Globe find out he’s suicidal?
