Review: "Nights in Rodanthe"
Cast: Richard Gere, Diane Lane, Christopher Meloni, Viola Davis, Mae Whitman Facts of interest: Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, author of "The Notebook." The plot: Two unhappy adults fall in love at a small beachside inn during a magical but stormy weekend. Our thoughts: I walked into George C. Wolfe’s “Nights in Rodanthe” expecting a sophisticated romance led by two film stars I usually enjoy watching on the big screen, but what I ended up getting in return for the price of admission wa

Review: Nights in Rodanthe
Movies like Nights in Rodanthe are beyond reviewing, because intellectually analyzing them cancels out their intended effect. This is a weepie, pure and simple. If you're the type that likes crying at the movies, you'll love it. If you loved Richard Gere and Diane Lane together in a thriller like Unfaithful (2002) but you don't like to cry, you probably won't like it. Me, I found a few things to like and much to loathe. Diane Lane stars in Nights in Rodanthe as Adrienne Willis, a frazzled single mother

Nights in Rodanthe: Film Review
There's little room for genuine emotion in this turgid romantic fantasy adapted from a novel by slop-meister Nicholas Sparks. by Nick Schager

Ann Peacock to adapt Grisham novel “The Partner”
Screenwriter Ann Peacock will pen the big-screen adaptation of John Grisham’s novel “The Partner,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. The trade says the film centers on a disillusioned lawyer who steals $90 million from his law firm, stages his own death and successfully disappears for several years. What at first seems to be a brilliant white-collar crime is further complicated by a murder charge. The project will be produced by Robert Chartoff, whose credits include all the “Rocky” flicks,

Nights In Rodanthe Movie Review
I must admit that by the end of the second act of Nights In Rodanthe, the sappy romantic inside of me was almost won over by the film.  Almost. But about a minute into the third act, the professional film critic in me took over, immediately recognizing the film’s overly sappy final 20 minutes as a form of exploitation on our emotions.  It’s as if the film is trying to bully us into weeping, saying “Look how sad this is.  And this.  And this.  And this!” Now, here’s a lesso

Jonas Brothers' Next Music Video is a 'Love Story'
The Jonas Brothers whipped up yet another savory pop confection with their single "Lovebug" -- and now new details are bubbling up about the tune's upcoming music video! The boys tell MTV News that the "Love Bug" vid will be a "period piece love story inspired by 'The Notebook,'" a 2004 romance film based on Nicholas Sparks' bestselling novel. "We have a dream of what it can be," Kevin Jonas told MTV. "It's about capturing that idea. We want to make sure it’s always right." And the JoBros reveal mo

Welcome back to another installment of Insert Caption -- our imaginary award-winning weekly contest in which you won't lose friends and alienate people, but you will walk away with some cool prizes (assuming you make us laugh, like, a lot). Congrats to our three winners who all somehow managed to write their captions without shedding ev

Review: The sap rises high in ‘Rodanthe’
Diane Lane gives it her all, but she can’t overcome the sticky sentimentality in this latest adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks best-seller.

'Nights in Rodanthe' swamped by sappy romance
There's still plenty of charm in romantically pairing Richard Gere and Diane Lane. The "Unfaithful" cast mates can still play flirty and cute with the best of them. And the stark, windswept beauty of North Carolina's Outer Banks makes a grand setting for a big-screen romance. Ah, but the corn grows high in those sand dunes in Nicholas Sparks' "Nights in Rodanthe." The movie version of "Nights" begins with such promise before it drowns in the romance novelist's sentimentality. Gere plays a Rale

Film review: Nights In Rodanthe
From the Nicholas Sparks schmaltz factory comes this not-so-stirring tale of bed-and-breakfast romance.

'Nights in Rodanthe' web reviews
The biggest romance of the fall season has arrived. George C. Wolfe's "Nights in Rodanthe" may not be the best, but considering it's based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, it is certainly the sappiest. Hey, and why not? Although I have not seen the film yet (check back for my review tonight), I am eager to find out what online critics have to say about Diane Lane and Richard Gere's chemistry onscreen. Oh yeah, and James Franco is in this too... • George Roush at LatinoReview: "Night in Rodanthe is a movie

Review: ‘Nights in Rodanthe’
This adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel succeeds at being an entertaining and engaging romance film that stays away from sap and cliché’s of the genre, but still kind of prescribes to the formula. Adrienne (Diane Lane) is a separated mother with two kids who is heading to Rodanthe for a weekend to cover running a bed and breakfast of her best friend.  Before she leaves her husband says she wants her back and sends her off for the weekend to her thoughts and ideas running through her head.  Pa

Richard Gere, Diane Lane reunite in stormy romance - Reuters
Judging from the part of the ad that says, ". . . from the author of 'The Notebook,'" you might suspect that this particular Richard Gere-Diane Lane reunion isn't going to be the torrid affair that was 2002's "Unfaithful," and of course you'd be quite right. Based on the novel of the same name, "Nights in Rodanthe" is typical Nicholas Sparks fare -- a weepy romance dealing with love, death and other unstoppable forces of nature -- that has been turned into

EUR FILM REVIEW: Nights in Rodanthe
*Besides J.K. Rowling, Nicholas Sparks is the only contemporary novelist to have a book remain on the New York Times best seller lists for longer than a year.       While Ms. Rowling has been publishing her phenomenally-successful series of fanciful Harry Potter children’s tales, Sparks made his fortune by cranking out over a dozen romantic tearjerkers, set mostly in the South, each punctuated with rabbit-out-of-the-hat plot twists designed to tug on his readers’ heartstrings.

Nights In Rodanthe
Director George C. Wolfe is making his feature debut here, and can be blamed a little for the stagy, trapped feel of the scenes at the beach house. But most of the blame lies with Nicholas Sparks, who wrote the novel upon which the movie is based. His novels have consistently sucked audiences into believing in a world in which all characters say their feelings right out loud and in platitudes, things like "I want you to know there's a different kind of love. One that gives you the courage to better than you
