John Carpenter: Melody Anderson may not have been one of the best known actresses of the 1980's. However, she was one of the busiest, and certainly one of the most beautiful.Yet, two decades later, she is no longer in the business.Born in Canada, she got her start in TV. There were episodes of WELCOME BACK, KOTTER, LOGAN'S RUN, B.J. AND THE BEAR, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and John Carpenter's TV movie ELVIS.Her best known role to some was her first feature film, FLASH GORDON. As the female lead, she still has a following to this day from this one film. She next appeared in another cult film, the 1981 horror film DEAD AND BURIED, a film popular enough to have an upcoming Blu-Ray release. In 1982 and 1983, she appeared on all of the following TV series. ARCHIE BUNKER'S PLACE, DALLAS, T.J. HOOKER, THE FALL GUY (in a two part episode), CHIPS, THE A-TEAM, and a recurring role on ST. ELSEWHERE as a nurse.Next came another cult favorite, often named as one of the worst shows ever to appear on TV.MANIMAL. Yes, the series where Simon MacCorkindale transformed himself into different animals. Jay Leno used the show as a punch line in his stand up act throughout the 80's. (Although watching that above clip, I now WANT this show on DVD!!)Possibly her best role, in that it was a starring role in a film about her character, came as the title character in the 1983 TV movie POLICEWOMAN CENTERFOLD. As a policewoman who, you guessed it, poses for a men's magazine, this still turns up on TV and is even available as part of Netflix's Watch It Now feature. MANIMAL was quickly cancelled and Melody want back to work, playing Edie Adams in the TV movie ERNIE KOVACS: BETWEEN THE LAUGHTER, opposite Nic Cage in the rowing film THE BOY IN BLUE, episodes of HOTEL and PHILIP MARLOWE, PRIVATE EYE, along with the TV movie BEVERLY HILLS MADAM.Melody starred with Chuck Norris and Louis Gossett Jr. in the 1986 J. Lee Thompson directed action film FIREWALKER, a TV movie DEEP DARK SECRETS and, like just about everyone else in this series, she starred in an episode of MURDER SHE WROTE. But wait, there's more (I told you she was busy). In 1989, she appeared in SPEED ZONE (aka CANNONBALL RUN 3), an episode of HBO's THE HITCHHIKER, and went on to star in several forgotten TV movies. She appeared on the final season of JAKE AND THE FATMAN in 1992, and on ALL MY CHILDREN for a couple of years. In 1993 she played Marilyn Monroe in the TV movie Marilyn & BOBBY: HER FINAL AFFAIR. While I never saw this, one internet review says Melody was one of the best to ever play Marilyn. A 1995 episode of BURKE'S LAW was Melody's final performance. What Ever Happened To Her?Melody left the business entirely and went back to school. She earned a Masters Degree in Social Work. Today, she works as a family therapist and Substance Abuse Counselor. She is also a frequent participant at fan conventions, signing autographs. In 2007 she gave the above interview at a Convention in New York. She talks about the business being difficult, and how it is hard for women over 50 to find good roles. She says she had a wonderful time during her career. That is what is most important.

Video: Watch John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’
John Carpenter's The Thing, an apocalyptic story that finds an Antarctic research facility besieged by a shape-shifting alien bent on assimilating all life on Earth, is one of my favorite movies of all time. It hits the mark on so many different levels -- a stellar cast that pulls you into their world of paranoid isolation; a haunting and mysterious narrative that never lets up; cinematography that captures the claustrophobic landscape perfectly; and ground-breaking gore-effects that left scars on my adoles

Universal to Chew Bubblegum and Kick Ass in 'They Live' Remake
Some remake announcements I just shrug off, some I get excited for, and then some just plain get under my skin. While I am a remake enthusiast, there are some films I consider untouchable, and if a studio is going to remake a film all I ask is that it's different. Universal did throw us a pretty damn good remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD, so maybe a remake of John Carpenter's They Live won't be all that bad? Besides, Zack Snyder's Strike Entertainment is getting involved, which can only mean good things (right?).

6 Rules For Remaking John Carpenter's They Live [They Live]
Rumor has it that Strike Entertainment is talking about picking up the rights to John Carpenter's They Live. This fills me with mixed emotions, because They Live is full of great moments (like a newsstand filled with black and white subliminal messages embedded into the magazines and papers). But at the same itme, how do you recreate such cheesetastic "I came here to kick ass and chew bubblegum" lines and fight scenes? It's impossible, unless you follow these simple rules. Before everyone jumps out a

31 Days of Horror: Day 8 - In the Mouth of Madness
Any horror movie list needs to have at least one or two John Carpenter movies on. I thought about throwing Halloween on the list but that is just too simple and everyone has seen it. I’also have to say I’m a bigger fan of In the Mouth of Madness than of his other horror movies. Carpenter manages to create a modern H.P. Lovecraft classic story. In my mind it is fairly easy to create a world where a serial killer is stalking people but it is not so easy to create a terrifying descent into madness

Aliens, Criminals, and Other Carpenter Tools
John Carpenter will forever be associated with "Halloween," his brilliantly original (and profitable) 1978 horror film that helped inaugurate the modern slasher era, a movement that now includes more than a half-dozen uninspired "Halloween" sequels. But while horror is what ultimately gave Mr. Carpenter the budgetary and artistic freedom to make the films he wanted to make, his imagination has never been one-dimensional. Beginning Monday, the Brooklyn Academy of Music will launch a brief film...

They Live 2!?
John Carpenter’s cult 1988 film is getting the remake treatment from Universal and studio-based Strike Entertainment, which are in negotiations to acquire the film rights with rights holder Les Mougins. Strike’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman will produce, while Shep Gordon of Les Mougins and Carpenter will serve as executive producers. The original film, part sci-fi thriller and part social satire, told the story of a down-on-his-luck construction worker (Roddy Piper) who discovers glasses th

John Carpenter’s They Live Gets a Remake
I have come here to chew bubblegum and remake movies… and I’m all out of bubblegum. Will John Carpenter be the first director to have his entire filmography remade — while he is still alive, no less? It certainly looks that way. With Halloween, The Fog and Assault on Precinct 13 all getting updates over the past few years, and new versions of Escape from New York and The Thing also supposedly in development, now we have yet another one to add to the list: They Live starring Rowdy Roddy Pip

The Thing Sequel To Be A Prequel
Latino Review spoke to Producer Marc Abraham and he revealed that he and John Carpenter are still developing a sequel to “The Thing”. Only it doesn't seem to be a sequel but a prequel. "This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive. Its going to be taking place in the same time frame” and “These are the events leading up to the 1982 film.” Posted by Flicks News at 3:34 PM Labels: John Carpenter, the thing add to del.icio.

Beau, I love you. I am so proud of you. Proud of the son you are. Proud of the father you’ve become. And I’m so proud of my son Hunter, my daughter Ashley, and my wife Jill, the only one who leaves me breathless and speechless at the same time. It is an honor to share this stage tonight with President Clinton. And last night, it was moving to watch Hillary, one of the great leaders of our party, a woman who has made history and will continue to make history: my colleague and my friend, Senator

‘Apes’ Prequel Becomes ‘Ceasar’
Caesar is not a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. This is a fact that Frank can’t stress to you enough - his film will not feature talking monkeys, and it will not end with chimpanzees running wild in the streets, taking over the world. But it isn’t entirely divorced from the world of Planet of the Apes, either. In fact, Frank sees his movie as the opening chapter in a saga that could span the thousand years between today and a world where apes rule. What’s most exciting abo

US critics wild for ‘Happy’
Wow. I was expecting a warm Stateside reception for Mike Leigh’s “Happy-Go-Lucky,” but even so, this is exceptional. For those who place stock in such things, the film’s Metacritic score is sitting at 82, but more importantly, some top critics have fallen hard for this one. If the film’s awards hopes seemed to be slipping oh-so-slightly following a respectable but slightly muted festival showing last month, these reviews should give it a second wind. Sally Hawkins, in particul

Gordon Ramsay Named ‘Prick Of The Year’ By GQ
While my wife was thrilled to hear that Hugh Jackman won People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” honor this morning, I was more interested and amused with Gordon Ramsay’s “Prick of the Year” win from GQ. See, there are many, many pricks in this world — but Ramsay has proven, for 2008 at least, that he’s a bigger dick than all of them. From hunting puffins and eating their hearts to making sarcastic remarks about vegetarians to then suddenly feeling bad there ar

Rob Zombie Returning for ‘Halloween 2′?
In the last few weeks, the French directors behind ‘Inside’, Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, parted ways once again with Dimension films on one of their horror properties.  First it was the remake of ‘Hellraiser’.  Then it was the followup to Rob Zombie’s version of ‘Halloween’. Now comes the rumor, and it is a rumor, mind you, that Zombie could be sitting back down in the director’s chair for yet another ‘Halloween’.  An “insider
