'W.' trailer: Can his expose of George W. Bush get Oliver Stone back in the Oscars derby?
Oliver Stone's newest film, "W.," about the life of the current U.S. commander in chief could well put the three-time Oscar winner back in the derby.
As you will see from the trailer, Josh Brolin eerily embodies George W. Bush, just as his father, James, bore a strong resemblance to President Ronald Reagan when he portrayed him in a 2003 TV miniseries. Oscar winners Richard Dreyfuss as Vice President Dick Cheney and Ellen Burstyn as Barbara Bush lend support as do Oscar nominee James Cromwell as Preside

Bush.
After that we have Thandie Newton as then-Deputy Secretary of
Newton And Gruffudd In Stone's W
Oliver Stone's W, the story of the formative years and early experiences in office of one George W. Bush, landed some further cast members today, in the shapely shapes of Ioan Gruffudd and Thandie Newton.
Newton will play Condoleeza Rice, Bush's National Security Adviser turned Secretary of State, who apparently plays a key role in certain early Iraq-related scenes, while Gruffudd will play Tony Blair, a firm Bush ally in the Iraq War.
Josh Brolin's already been cast as Dubya himself, with Elizabeth

TIFF Review: Lovely, Still
I can't imagine a more apt title for Lovely, Still than the one it has. This sweet, surprising story about romance between senior citizens is uncommonly lovely, and a serene stillness rests over most of it. Of course, the title works the other way, too: The process of falling in love is lovely, still, even after all these years.
It is Christmastime in an unnamed snowy town, and Robert Malone (Martin Landau) is a lonely old man. He lives by himself in a house that he has occupied for 48 years, a house with

Election season: Three political movies for fall
It’s hard to say whether Hollywood has Election Fever, or why symptoms of that fever would show up, all at once, just before a showing of Burn After Reading—in which the U.S. government is like somebody’s exasperated dad, at best—but there’s a definite theme to the theatrical fare this fall. Come October, the roster is packed with political movies, from pomp-and-circumstance dramas to smaller, more character-driven stories. Here are a few slated for release before Christmas:

Thandie Newton Wishes She Could Give Birth Every Year
Thandie Newton, 35, is currently filming the movie "2012" in Canada. Mother of girls Ripley, 8, and Nico, 3, Thandie says that acting makes her feel "more alive, more self-aware...not a bad thing for a mum," she tells the Times Online.
Little known fact: Newton turned down one of the lead roles in the "Charlie's Angels" movie because she didn't want to be "that famous." She loves acting and think is makes her a better mother. She talks about pregnancy, saying
TORONTO: ‘Lovely, Still,’‘Blindness’
I love it when a film comes out of nowhere, from an unlikely source, a new talent, old talents re-discovering their gifts, or something that just plains shocks the hell out of the audience with its audacity and brilliance.
That happened to me today with the wonderful, heartbreaking love story “Lovely, Still,” boasting Oscar-caliber performances from Ellen Burstyn and Martin Landau. More on that later.
I also finally saw the new cut of “Blindness,” as well as “Good,” the

Earlier, we parsed the spurious infanticide ... [How To Win Friends And Influence People]
Earlier, we parsed the spurious infanticide charges leveled at Barack Obama by, among others, this woman — Jill Stanek. Jill's a big anti-abortion, anti-birth-control, pro-"purity" and anti-reality activist who got the infanticide ball rolling with the help of some people in the media that take her somewhat seriously despite her use of the word "baby-killer" to describe pro-choice lawmakers. Media Matters, however, points out that Stancek also promotes domestic violence as an acceptable reaction to a

When Chris Cooper accepted his Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2003, he pointed out that his co-star Meryl Streep had a great deal to do with his victory. “We made great jazz together,” he said.
“It’s easier when you like the person,” Martin Landau says, smiling. “I’ve had to work with actors I could not stand, women I was not attracted to, and that is where the craft comes in. But with Ellen, we know each other, we work the same way, we were trained in a

President Bush: An 'Awfully Special' Wedding Weekend
As tiny Crawford, Texas, and surrounding towns emptied of wedding guests on Sunday, President Bush pronounced the weekend an "awfully special" one. And, by all accounts, an emotional one for the First Family.
"Our little girl, Jenna, married a really good guy," the president told reporters on the tarmac before boarding Air Force One with First Lady Laura Bush and his parents for the return trip to Washington, D.C.
The ultra-private wedding on Bush's gated ranch was the president's first turn at playi
