Speaking from the Rose Garden about 14 hours after the late Saturday vote, Obama urged senators to be like runners on a relay team and "take the...

Healthcare reform bill wouldn't end higher premiums based on age: PHOTO
Reporting from Washington - Under the healthcare proposals now before Congress, Insurance companies would no longer be able to charge higher prices to policyholders who had Diabetes or cancer, became pregnant or were severely overweight. But the far-reaching clampdown on insurers leaves one highly controversial element untouched: the issue of charging higher premiums to older policyholders than to younger, presumably healthier consumers who are less likely to file costly claims. Under the...

Consistency Revisited I: PHOTO
I've noticed a few right-of-center blogs complaining of double standards on the left, in the denunciations of extremist rhetoric and imagery of the Tea Party marches. Ed Driscoll has a good point . The extremes of the anti-war left before Iraq were every bit as inflammatory and loopy as the Tea Partiers today. Now, they were opposing a war that turned out to be a catastrophe for all involved, while the Tea Partiers are just opposing the working poor having a chance to buy Health Insurance. But...

Health reformers prepare for Senate hurdle
The first thing Barack Obama did late on Saturday night following the passage of the healthcare bill in the House of Representatives was to phone the heads of three industry lobby groups to thank them for their support. Not included on the list was the largest Insurance lobby group, American Health Insurance Plans, which doggedly continues to oppose Democratic reform efforts. Amid all the late night celebrations after the razor-thin 220-215 vote for the bill, Karen Ignagni, head of AHIP, warned...

Republicans vowed Sunday that no final bill will reach the President's desk, with South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham calling the House legislation...

House Dems: Don't tax 'Cadillac' plans
More than half of the Democrats in the House have signed on to a letter denouncing a key element of the Senate Finance Committee’s Health Care legislation as Labor unions draw a line in the sand on paying for reform. The Democrats are attacking a plan to finance expanded Health Care by taxing expensive Health Insurance plans. The plan, sometimes cast as a tax on “Cadillac” plans, would in fact include the Health Care plans of many public employees and union members and has...
