There’s now no doubting the fact that Twilight has been a massive success. The book-to-film translation brought a wealth of fans out of the woodwork and managed to secure $70 million of takings at the box U.S. box office on its opening weekend. This Thanksgiving, Twilight fans have plenty to be thankful for. Their beloved world has crossed over into the mainstream as one of the year's most successful movies. HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 11/23/08 – “Twilight,” the big-screen adaptation of the Stephenie Meyer vampire novel of the same name, will get its sequel. Summit Entertainment announced Saturday that it would begin work on “New Moon,” the next chapter in the Bella Swan/Edward Cullen saga, which would also be based on its corresponding literary work.

'New Moon' Rising Thanks To 'Twilight' Success
Having already acquired the movie rights to the next three Twilight novels, Summit Entertainment has now given the green light to begin production on the sequel New Moon.
Big box office returns over its opening weekend have secured the Twilight franchise and reluctant Robert Pattinson's future as a heartthrob no matter how vehemently he claims to be a bad kisser.

Plans For 'Twilight' Sequel Begin Taking Shape
Catherine Hardwicke is in talks to follow-up her record-breaking Twilight movie by directing the sequel New Moon. The filmmaker scored the biggest debut ever for a female director when the vampire love story shot to number one in the U.S. on Sunday, and she's keen to get cracking on the sequel - so her young cast doesn't change beyond recognition.
She tells USA Today newspaper, "(Twilight star Taylor Lautner) told me the other day that he had gained 14 pounds since I last saw him. He's only 16."

I saw Twilight twice over the weekend, each time with a person who hadn't read the book(s), and can happily report that, despite the film's sometimes glaring flaws, we all enjoyed it.
THE PLUSES:
-The casting was 50% spot-on, with Kristen Stewart as Bella, Billy Burke as Charlie, Kellan Lutz as Emmet Cullen and Ashley Greene as Alice Cullen all very well-cast, image-wise. 'Twilight' Breaks Box Office Records
It was definitely a hefty display of girl power at the end of the Twilight opening weekend.
Raking in a hefty $70.6 million the audience was estimated to be 75%
female and the largest opening ever for a film directed by a woman.
The teenage vampire flick was originally expected to pull in $60 million at most, but "word of mouth" helped bring in that $10.6 million.
