Pop culture moments that defined Election '08
NEW YORK - Given the historic election we've all just experienced, it's hard to remember back to last week, let alone June 2007, when Barack Obama was a true underdog, polling way behind front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton.
This Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007 file photo shows President-elect Barack Obama, center, his wife Michelle, right, and Oprah Winfrey as they wave to the crowd at a rally in Manchester, N.H. If it seems like pop culture took a more prominent role in

Obama's sweet talk is a tale of pie
Sen. Barack Obama likes pie. Over the last three days of campaigning, it's become clear that he's given a great deal of thought to pie. He's talked about the kinds of pie he likes, about having a pie contest where he'll be a judge, and how pie fits into the larger economic difficulties of our time.
On Thursday afternoon, in Georgetown, Ohio, Obama and Gov. Ted Strickland stopped at a diner for pie. He's been talking about the visit ever since. He waxed on about his pie during a rally in Portsmouth, Ohio t

Gibbs successfully served as a liaison between Obama and the press and was usually the senior official on Air Obama, the campaign plane. As communications director of Obama’s Senate office, Gibbs was a key strategist in Obama’s rapid move to the national stage.

Obama Taps Emanuel for Chief of Staff
Less than 48 hours after securing the presidency, President-Elect Barack Obama has quickly moved to build his team selecting Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanuel as his Chief of Staff.
Sending out a clear signal that he seeks to reach across the aisle and work with Republicans, Obama plans a swift launch of an aggressive agenda that will focus on the economy, taxes, energy, education and health care.
The brother of super-agent Ari Emanuel (portrayed as Ari Gold on HBO’s “Entourage), the 49-year old Eman
Barack Obama to pay big for primetime buy
Barack Obama will pay NBC and CBS almost $1 million each for the campaign’s half-hour ad buy in primetime Wednesday, Oct. 29, less than a week before the election.
According to papers available at CBS’s headquarters in New York, the campaign agreed Monday to pay $961,000 for the entire 8-8:30 pm time period. It wasn’t clear whether that was in pattern, meaning it would run across all time zones at that period.
NBC will sell Obama the half-hour time buy for $891,250 gross and $775,000 net

Tax rebate, food stamp money possible in aid plan
AP - After consulting with Barack Obama, Democratic leaders are likely to call Congress back to work after the election in hopes of passing legislation that would include extended jobless benefits, money for food stamps and possibly a tax rebate, officials said Saturday.
The bill’s total cost could reach $150 billion, these officials said.
The officials stressed that no final decisions have been made. They spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they did not want to pre-empt a formal announcement. H
Beyonce and Diddy both cried when Obama was declared winner
Tuesday night was an incredibly emotional evening for many Americans. Knowing you are witnessing history is a deeply profound feeling – especially when it’s such a needed change. I was truly touched to see the joy on people’s faces, as well as the deep displays of emotion.
Several celebs have said how excited and happy they were to watch Obama being declared the next president of the United States. Both Diddy and Beyonce said they cried that night – and I’m sure they’re one of millions.

Sarah Palin doesn't know what countries are in North America. She can't name the countries that belong to NAFTA and she thinks Africa is a country, not a continent. Nor could she name most of the countries in North Africa. It's frightening to imagine how close this woman came to being second-in-command of the United States. Here's a rundown of all the stories the McCain campaign is leaking about Sarah Palin in an effort to a) pin the blame on someone on b) to doom her 2012 chances, beca

Michelle Obama at the Museum
Yesterday, the W magazine-commissioned portrait of Michelle and Sasha Obama by Elizabeth Peyton was put on view at the New Museum as part of Peyton's retrospective, "Live Forever: Elizabeth Peyton." Laura Hoptman, the curator of the show (which opened October 8) eyed the portrait after its completion and decided that, as a nonpartisan institution, the museum would show the painting only if Barack Obama won the election.
Hoptman says that Peyton's portrait, which depicts Michelle seated at the Democratic N
Your Thoughts?
A New York artist, Elizabeth Peyton, painted Michelle Obama and her youngest daughter Sasha. First thing that came to my mind was the photograph of the late Coretta Scott King holding her daughter in her lap at the funeral of her husband, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Road To The Dog House: Joe Biden Getting A Pooch Too?
As reported earlier, the Obama family is planning on adopting a “first dog” from a shelter and foregoing the traditional AKC route. Of course, this was back in early October when Michelle Obama first announced that they would be rescuing a pooch — but hopefully such plans are still on the table. The one issue surrounding the adoption is that any pet must be hypoallergenic because of Malia’s allergies.
For their part, the AKC says its members want Obama to purchase a purebred poodle.

Obama Keeps His Promises
President elect Barack Obama confirmed in his victory speech that his daughters will get the puppy that they have been waiting for since before the election started. Obama said “I love you both so much, and you have earned the new puppy that’s coming with us to the White House.”
Mrs. Bush told Michelle Obama in a phone conversation that the White House is a great place to bring children up. Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, will have a great upbringing living in the White House and now playing with a
Peyton's Michelle Obama At Home At New Muesum
Art Info reports that the New Museum has added an Elizabeth Peyton portrait of future first lady Michelle Obama to an exhibition of the artist's work. The painting, titled "Michelle and Sasha Obama Listening to Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention August 2008," was hung yesterday on the museum's fourth floor.
This is a funny gesture from Peyton, whose brilliantly colored, limply posed portraits of Kurt Cobain, King Ludwig II of Bavaria, and other pale, etiolated dandies, are about a
