This Week's DVD Releases: I “Wanted” To Believe In “X-Files”

James McAvoy: A lot of worthwhile DVDs out this week, so let’s get right into it. Wanted kicks off the batch after turning into a surprise hit in theaters. While a lot funnier than the Matrix wannabee the trailers made it out to be, don’t worry, James McAvoy still comes across as a convincing (if unconventional) action hero. That plus a naked Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman dropping f bombs are more than enough to make Wanted worth a rental. Same goes for Step Brothers, a real favorite of mine from the summer. If you’re truly burnt out on Will Ferrell, Step Brothers probably won’t change that, but for those of you willing to give the man another shot, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised. A solid supporting cast and a healthy dose of irreverant humor makes this everything the original Ferrell/Reilly team-up Talladega Nights was supposed to be. And a special mention goes out to The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, a movie that might usually fall outside our demographic but certainly doesn’t deserve to. Never saw the first one, but I was intrigued by the promise of a more action-packed storyline for Round 2 and didn’t come away disappointed. While it clocks in at a pretty hefty 2 and a half hours, this is one of those rare “kid’s movies” that shows an admirable willingness to treat its target audience like adults. Darker and much more complex than I expected, Prince Caspian ought to satisfy - and tempt - even the most cynic

EUR DVD REVIEW: Wanted
*Wesley Gibson's (James McAvoy) life is a mess. By day, the 25 year-old slacker sits behind a desk at a tiny cubicle in a low-paying job, trying to tune out the unreasonable demands of his overbearing boss (Lorna Scott).       Evenings, he retreats to the equally-unpleasant confines of the noisy dive he shares with an abusive girlfriend (Kristen Hagen) who's openly sleeping with his best buddy from work.       Opportunity knocks for Wesley in a drug stor

12 Of The Best Payback Moments in Film
There are plenty of movies about revenge -- Sweeney Todd, Revenge of the Nerds, Mad Max, Death Wish,Kill Bill, every third or fourth movie in an action franchise, and most recently, Universal Pictures' Wanted, which comes out on DVD this Tuesday, December 2. Then there are other films that contain specific moments of satisfaction-guaranteeing payback in them. In the action-packed Wanted, James McAvoy stars as Wes, a meek office worker whose frequent anxiety attacks make it difficult for him stand up to his

New to Home Video: 'Wanted,' 'Prince Caspian,' 'Step Brothers,' and 'X-Files'
This week is also unusual in that it bucks the recent trend of movies that have been out for only three months before they wind up on home video. One of these flicks is six months old, and another one is about five months old. That doesn't mean we're seeing a reversal in that disturbing have-it-now trend, just that the studios wanted bigger fourth quarter pushes for movies from their second quarter. Wanted I happen to agree with whatever blurbmeister is adorning the ads for this DVD when he said it

“Wanted” movie posters banned in UK!
Two movie posters for Angelina Jolie’s latest action film “Wanted” have been banned by the U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) because the sexy, weapon-baring promotional images glamorize the use of guns and violence and are unsuitable for children. Natalie Portman Trumps James Franco In Ivy League / Hollywood Praise-Off [Class In Session]
What does an Ivy League education get the average young Hollywood star these days? If Variety's recent collection of peer-on-peer salutations — featuring Natalie Portman and James Franco among many others — is any indication, it pretty much depends on the school. Harvard alum Portman followed up a few inconsistent efforts from Colin Farrell, James McAvoy and Scarlett Johansson ("I was clinging to the edge of my seat waiting for her to explode," she wrote of I've Loved You So Long actress
