This Sunday's Simpsons premiere: “Sex, Pies and Idiot Scrapes”

stewiesplayground.com - 25th Sep 2008

Mayday Parade : This Sunday, we get to see the first episode of the 20th season of the Simpsons titled Sex, Pies, and Idiot Scrapes. I had the opportunity to see an advance screening of this today, and it was actually pretty good! Basically, Ned and Homer become bounty hunters and take down a few criminals. Everything looks good until the bail bondsman guy gets the latest skipper across his desk - and it’s Homer, who got in trouble for starting a huge fight at the St. Patrick’s Day parade. So Ned then has to go after Homer, and of course, much hilarity ensues. Since it was an advanced screening, I don’t think the ending was what it’s going to be this Sunday, and so I’ll keep that to myself. Overall though, it was vintage Sim Read full story at stewiesplayground.com

Caribbean Day Parade takes over Brooklyn
Tens of thousands of revelers gathered in Brooklyn Monday for the West Indian American Day Parade, a boisterous celebration of Caribbean culture featuring reggae beats, miles of food stalls and costumes with a 20-foot wing span. The annual parade takes place on Labor Day but is modeled on traditional pre-Lenten Carnival festivities. Spectators waved the flags of a dozen nations as they waited for the parade to move slowly down Eastern Parkway from Crown Heights to Grand Army Plaza. Gregory Jules

Thompson: Bloomberg Should 'Clarify' His Position on Term Limits
Here’s video of Comptroller and mayoral candidate Bill Thompson answering questions from reporters at the Labor Day parade, where he expressed support for extending term limits so that members of the City Council could serve for three terms, instead of two--a hot topic of conversation among New York politicians these days. That change should be put before the voters, Thompson said. He goes on to say Michael Bloomberg needs to “clarify” his position on the topic. (He's not the only one that feels tha

Rangel, Dinkins and the Never-Ending Parade
Charlie Rangel and David Dinkins perched on the back of a white convertible to ride the length of yesterday's African-American Day Parade on Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard in Harlem. After the parade, when I walked over to Lenox Avenue to catch a ride to City Hall, there they were, still riding on the back of the car in the Sunday afternoon traffic, waving to onlookers and ignoring a scattered honks from other motorists. I'm not sure about the rules on this kind of ride, but two police officers in an unma

More on All the Sunday Night Harlem Shootings
After a two-day delay, the mainstream dailies are finally reporting on Harlem's violent Sunday night, which saw police helicopters, plainclothes cops and myriad squad cars flooding the neighborhood in response to shootings that left six hospitalized. The incidents occurred after the African American Day Parade. According to Cop in the Hood, "The parade ended in the afternoon. The tough kids come out at night. Between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., people were walking around with guns, shooting them in the air. And thi

Rangel Says It's Still Not Affecting Him
I asked Charlie Rangel yesterday after the African-American Day parade in Harlem about the attention he continues to get from the media about his unresolved ethics issues--and about how they've impacted him.   “Not at all. Not at all. I’ve got overwhelming support. Not one Democrat doesn’t support me. Republicans support me. I’m the top fund-raiser in the Democratic Party. If I was them, I’d be after me too,” Rangel said. I asked if the probes have impaired his ability to act constructiv

Fab Pics: The West Indian Labor Day Parade
As soon as I touched down from Atlanta, I hit up the West Indian Parade this past Monday.  It was wayyy too crazy, and there were soooo many people out there.  West Indians sure know how to party, and party they did.  People were out on Eastern Parkway allll day and all night.  If any of you ladies missed it, there was a ton of eye candy around that definitely made up for the crazy crowd.  There were also appearances by Sweet Mickey (Popular Haitian artist and Martine’s uncle) and Wyclef.  Exc

Gustav Makes Landfall, Hanna May Trouble NYC
Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Hanna in a water vapor satellite image from NOAA. Not much happening in New York City weather today, or much of this week for that matter. A high pressure system parked upstate should keep things sunny, warm and dry through Thursday. Expect highs in the mid 80s each day. Wear plenty of sunscreen if you're going out to the West Indian American Day parade today. Next weekend we may need to concern ourselves with Tropical Storm Hanna. The climate records will show th

Paterson on Palin and the Straw-Man Media
"I think what the Republicans have done is manufacture criticism of Governor Palin and then attacked," Governor David Paterson told me before the Labor Day parade on Saturday. "In other words, creating a straw man and then knocking it down." He added, "Nobody has really questioned anything about Governor Palin and nobody has really anything against her—other than the policies that we think are just wrong for this country." Paterson also thinks there's an element o

Art Parade Canceled!
Principal Rooney should've be so lucky: Ferris Bueller’s parade has officially been rained on. Tomorrow's fourth annual Deitch Project’s Art Parade — which, this year, would've attempted to re-create Ferris Bueller’s Von Steuben Day Parade (in the movie, Matthew Broderick, in a leopard-print waistcoat, sang "Danke Schoen" to an adoring crowd of thousands) — has been canceled owing to tomorrow's expected tropical storm. City rules prevent Deitch Projects from obtaining another p

Another Dazzling West Indian American Day Parade
Tens of thousands of colorfully costumed revelers partied down on Eastern Parkway from Crown Heights to Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn yesterday for the annual West Indian American Day Parade with millions of people lining the street. This year's celebration was somewhat muted by Gustav's damage to the Caribbean. Mayor Bloomberg, who led the parade with Gov. Paterson, told the revelers, "We know Mother Nature is a powerful force and there have been some deaths in the Caribbean so our prayers go to all of th

Get Ready for the West Indian American Day Parade
Tomorrow is the annual West Indian American Day Carnival and Parade, which goes from Eastern Parkway and Utica Ave. to Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn. The parade, which attracts millions of people, features floats, dancers and bands that celebrate the cultures of the Caribbean. The festivities are all day--here's a little history about the parade--and expect to see politicians there (last year, Mayor Bloomberg joked he could be considered West Indian because he spends so much time in Bermuda). Paterson Says No Thompson Endorsement for 2009
During an African-American Day parade in Harlem yesterday, Paterson made several references to City Comptroller Bill Thompson possibly being the next mayor of the city (as he does in the clip above). After the parade, I asked Paterson what role he might play in the primary. “I think everybody knows Bill’s a good friend of mine. Our fathers served in the State Senate together. But I think Bill Thompson is perfectly capable of winning on his own. He doesn’t need me, and the other candidates have been

Clinton limits Palin criticism while campaigning
AP - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton marched for labor and stumped with Democrats on Saturday, but sidestepped questions about the woman who has taken her place as the nation’s most-talked-about female leader. Clinton brushed aside questions about Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin during appearances at New York City’s annual Labor Day parade and later during a stop on Staten Island. "This election is about issues, and that’s what’s going to matter to people at the end of

Team Clinton Says Obama Intimidated By Palin Factor
The harshest thing Hillary Clinton could come up with about Sarah Palin at a Sept. 6 campaign event at Wagner College on Staten Island was that there was no evidence at the convention in St. Paul to suggest Republicans would “guarantee equal pay for equal work for women.” “I heard nothing!” she said. Reporters tried to get Mrs. Clinton to talk about John McCain’s running mate at a tiny press conference after the event, but she refused even to mention Mrs. Palin’s name, saying only, “I am camp
