The Spirit Snubbed At The Razzies??

Keanu Reeves: We posted the Razzies nominations so robotically yesterday we didn't even think of the films that could possibly get snubbed from the Razzies, the award ceremony that honors that most poorly made and insipid films of the year. After all, tracking the worst is pretty easy and the Razzies do a pretty good job each year.A lot of the obvious, usual deserving suspects were nominated, "Speed Racer," "The Love Guru," "The Day The Earth Stood Still," Keanu Reeves, Sylvester Stallone, Tom Cruise ("Valkyrie"), Ashton Kutcher, Mike Myers, Paris Hilton, etc.But then a closer look shows that "The Spirit," Frank Miller's directorial-debut ode to wildly unintelligible illogical moviemaking, was totally snubbed??Nothing for Samuel L. Jackson's absurdly over-the-top performance?!? Nothing for the incoherent film itself that sort of takes itself semi-seriously and then explodes into incomprehensible Nazi nonsense midway through and becomes even spectacularly more horrendous and laughably terrible? Nothing for Frank Miller who irrationally mixes disparate and inconsistent "Sin City" looks throughout? This my friends, is an outrage! The Playlist - The sweet spot where movies and music meet.

The Spirit Misses Razzie Nomination By A Hair [Razzies]
The nominations for all of the worst movies of 2008 are out. And lucky, lucky Frank Miller missed the nominations for the worst movie in the history in the world by a few days.Unfortunately, The Spirit came out too late to make the Razzie nomination ballot, according to the site:ALTHOUGH IT FLOPPED TOO LATE to MAKE OUR NOMINATING BALLOT, WE THOUGHT ITS UNDER ACHIEVEMENTS EARNED IT a PLACE on OUR FORUM. Frank Miller is a lucky man, but I'm not going to forget the sins this movie committed that easily. See yo

Razzie Nominations Serve A Shocking Snub To 'The Spirit' [Snubs]
newVideoPlayer("/spirit_consid.flv", 506, 423,""); We've just had a look at the official nomination ballot for the Razzies, and we're still reeling from the unexpected shutout of frontrunner The Spirit. We'd had high expectations that no film could surpass The Spirit's unimpeachable Razzie campaign, which featured a 15% fresh Tomatometer rating, a viral "For Your Consideration" ad, and Samuel L. Jackson in a series of fur coats and Nazi costumes. And yet! MTV writer Larry Carroll got his hands on the offici

Razzie Award Nominations - The Worst Movies and Performances of 2008
The 29th Annual Razzie Award Nominations have been released. For those who don’t know, the Razzies cellebrate the worst films and performances of the year. I’m surprised to see the hate for Rambo and Sylvester Stallone, which were nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Actor, Worst On Screen Couple (Sylvester Stallone & His Ego… very funny), Worst Director, Worst Sequel and Worst Career Achievement as a lot of my friends enjoyed that film. I’ve included my personal choices below in bold.

2008 Razzies Nominations Announced
I’m not a hige fan of the Academy Awards or any of those serious awards ceremonies if I’m honest. I know that’s probably not a good career move as a movie blogger but it’s the truth so what the hell. I just can’t get excited about giving awards to actors who have already been paid a huge amount of money to Star in the movies. It’s like they need even more praise and reward than they already get just for being a celebrity. So what I prefer is those spoof awards ceremonie

Pick 2008's Worst Movies
Every year as Golden Globes are shined and Oscars are polished, there is one award that no celebrity is interested in receiving: The Golden Razzie, which goes to the year's worst movies and actors. Actually, I shouldn't say "no celebrity" since in 2005 Halle Berry awesomely ascended the stage to claim her worst actress prize for "Catwoman" - check out this clip of her reflecting on the moment. Anyhoo, this year's nominees have been released and, per usual, the choices are pretty spot on, although, Reese

2008 Razzie Nominating Ballot Calls Into Question Seriousness of Awards
The esteemed membership of the Razzie voting committee received their 2008 nominating ballots in the mail yesterday afternoon — and controversy abounds! While the official list of nominees for the year's worst movies and acting won't be released until January 21, the names on the ballot from which serious-minded voters are expected to choose are laughable at best.Never mind egregious omissions like Seven Pounds, the winner of Vulture's Critics' Poll for 2008's crappiest film, and The Spirit, which las

Vulture’s Critics’ Poll: The Complete Ballots
Ballots for the Vulture critics' poll were collected in three ways. Many critics responded to our requests with lists of their worst movies of the year. Many other critics had already published such lists. Finally, for critics who did not respond telling us they did not want to participate, or were unreachable, we combed through their 2008 reviews to find their most memorable pan.Every mention of a film earned that film one point, with a bonus point awarded if a critic named the film the absolute worst of t

How, we wondered yesterday, could the Razzies have overlooked the tailor-made star bombThe Spirit for inclusion on their annual dishonor roll of nominees? We went straight to Razzies founder John Wilson for the scoop.DEFAMER: So the nominees that emerged yesterday weren't official yet? JOHN: What happened is we have press members on our mailing list, and this guy Larry Carroll from MTV's Movie Blog apparently misunderstood and thought that was a final list. Best And Worst Science Fiction Movies Of 2008 [Io9 2008 Year In Review]
This wasn't just the year that science fiction dominated the movies — it also featured an amazing diversity of SF stories. Here's our list of the greatest — and most horrendous — films of 2008.Okay, so here are the movies that blew us away and horrified us this year:BEST:10. Let The Right One In. 13 WTF Moments From ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’ Remake
I finally got out to see The Day The Earth Stood Still remake, starring Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly. I made sure to see it in IMAX because from what I could tell from the preview footage, the special effects are amazing and would definitely be heightened by the IMAX experience. I’m a big fan of the original 1951 film by director Robert Wise and not so keen on remakes, which is why I wasn’t running out to see this movie when it was released in early December. The story centers

Pandering the Paparazzi - No Wonder it’s Open Season on Celebs!
I could blog about the candidates for the 2008 US Presidential Election suspending their campaigns but as I don’t for one moment believe this to be the case, but rather that they’ve just moved the campaigning to a different platform, I’m going to move along onto another news story. Keanu Reeves faced charges by a paparazzi photographer who said that Mr Reeves assaulted him.  The photographer sustained injuries when hit by the actor’s car in March of last year.  The judge however has a degree of co

New German Poster for 'Day the Earth Stood Still'
You know how they keep saying that these Presidential debates are for the undecided voters, that bloc of independents who could be swayed either way? That's kind of how I feel talking about this movie, if it were, say, the Reagan-Mondale election. I have not seen a groundswell of support for The Day the Earth Stood Still, but I have seen - in more frequency and with greater conviction - a lot of resistance to this remake. On the one hand, I'm happy that so many people have apparently seen and

Plainly Mr. Reeves intended to drive away. That intent is not lawful,” Grimes said, dismissing most of the law

The Day The Earth Stood Still sneak peak
Back on August 25th I mentioned that The Day The Earth Stood Still will be released in December 2008. For those of you who don’t know its  a remake of the 1951 classic sci-fi film about an alien visitor and his giant robot counterpart who visit Earth. The 2008 remake about an alien and his indestructible robot will star (Keanu Reeves) as Klaatu, Jennifer Connelly as Helen Benson, (Jaden Smith) as Jacob, and (Kathy Bates). Gort has not been cast at this time and will most likely be created using FX
