The Music of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

Film.com - Movie Reviews - 5th Oct 2008

Michael Cera: Perhaps I'm stating the obvious, but the best soundtracks always take on the character of the movie they accompany, and vice versa, and that's certainly the case with Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. The film, which follows the bridge-and-tunnel protagonists Nick (Michael Cera) and Norah (Kat Dennings) on a night of hijinks through the streets of Brooklyn and Manhattan, is packed full of blink-and-you-miss-it hipster cameos from current faves Andy Samberg, Seth Myers, John Cho and Kevin Corrigan. Likewise, the soundtrack is so Chock-full of NOW indie rock, that it can make you feel like you're trapped in the back seat of Nick's claustrophobic yellow Yugo. (A magical Yugo, it seems, as it's somehow always able to easily find street parkin Read full story at Film.com - Movie Reviews

Review: “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist”
Based on the novel by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. The plot: Nick (Cera) and Norah (Dennings) spend an incredible chaotic but eventually magical night in New York City. Our thoughts: Peter Sollett’s “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” has enough rhythm to maintain the audience’s attention for 90 minutes, but the film definitely lacks the surprise factor we’ve come to appreciate in this new genre of teenage comedies. It’s a shame, really, because the movie holds plenty of unexploited po

'Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist' Premieres In LA
Michael Cera and Kat Dennings star in the new hipster romantic comedy Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, which just premiered here in Los Angeles. At first, I assumed that since it was Michael Cera, the movie would be Juno: Part Deux. But after watching the trailer, it looks like it's actually quite endearing. In other words, it doesn't make me think that all American tweens should be forced into slave labor in third world countries. (Don't blame me--blame My Super Sweet Sixteen.) This Kat girl is

Why I Already Irrationally Hate Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist [Rants]
So that movie Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist is out today, and look! It's getting very good and pretty good reviews! Well that's good for little Michael Cera and Kat Dennings, the fawn-faced stars of the emo-queercore-fake New York City romp film about two Stars-crossed lovers who enjoy a wild night on the LES in pursuit of good music, good lovin', and a drunk girl. Yeah. It's nice. I haven't seen it yet, but I already fucking hate it. Why do I hate it? How could I possibly hate a movie that featu

Are Nick & Norah Fans Really Flocking to Veselka?
Every NYC movie/tv show can create a new pop culture landmark and tourist destination. Serious Eats points out that When Harry Met Sally had Katz's and Sex and the City had Magnolia, and now Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist has staked a claim on Veselka. Owner Tom Birchard told SE that they were "slammed all weekend" with folks allegedly wanting to recreate the scene where Michael Cera and Kat Dennings enjoy some pierogies at the 24-hour eatery (the address is even given in the dialogue). No word on if Arle

Michael Cera's Performance Envokes Mushy Fruit
Sorry, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist: as engagingly funny/sweet as you might have been as a book, trying to watch Michael Cera carry off a romantic lead role (seriously, he fingerbangs Kat Dennings for 20 seconds in this film) with his weirdly vulnerable babyface that is unable to grow any sort of facial hair is highly, highly disconcerting. And apparently cynical 20-somethings are over George Michael's awkward cuteness as much as I am. Cera himself admits that while filming Nick and Norah

Michael Cera and Kat Dennings Are Infinitely Cute
Michael Cera and Kat Dennings, who play the title characters in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, posed together last night for the red carpet premiere of their movie. They looked sweet giggling for the cameras with their director and a few costars, and apparently these two aren't afraid to poke fun at each other now and then. We're excited to see Michael step it up and take on a romantic comedy, and after reading Buzz's review, we have a feeling many of you will want to see it this weekend, too. To

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist: It's Just So Cute
I'm trying to separate the experience of watching the movie Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist from the experience of reading the book. In truth, the two bear only a few similarities and I enjoyed the book more than the movie. Still, as a standalone piece of entertainment, the movie version is fun and silly and adorable, mostly due to the great cast. At the heart of what's so likable about it are Nick and Norah themselves, two precocious, creative, music-loving teens who spend a wacky night in New York City

Dr. Venkman Reviews: Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist
You know what? You may not believe me when I say this, but this is one of my favorite movies of the year. Not only one of my favorite but one of the best made. As much as I liked Juno, I liked ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ even more. You may think I’m nuts for saying that, but I was able to connect with the characters and story in this film better. I honestly remember having nights like the one these characters had. Pulling all nighters not knowing where the night will take you.

Review: Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist
‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ is one of those quirky, cute comedies that comes out once a year and wins over the hearts of all types of film goers. It is a far above average romantic comedy about wandering souls and the fate that brings them together, yet it feels more realistic than most other romantic comedies that have come out before it. Based on the novel by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, the film follows two high-schoolers and their one-night adventure through the world of i

Review: "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist"
By Matt Singer With its title and indie rock soundtrack, "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" tries to pass itself off as the underground music lover's dream romantic comedy. But while its characters claim to listen to music and even occasionally play music, they never talk about it in any convincingly intelligent way. Nick (Michael Cera) and Norah (Kat Dennings) have exactly one minor conversation about the thing that allegedly is the source of their magical compatibility. Nick supposedly makes the best mi

Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist Movie Review
If you like slice-of-life teen movies, you’ll enjoy Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. While not breaking any new ground, it delivers solid performances with a few chuckles, a few ‘eww gross’ moments, and your typical boy/girl love story. It also has a backdrop of a boy/boy relationship that was done very well - no gay agenda forced on anyone, and no disruptive messages of intolerance pushing you towards being uncomfortable. I kept waiting for one or the other to drop, but instead it ju

Movies: ‘Nick and Norah’ an Exercise in Subtlety
NEW YORK (RUSHPRNEWS)10/6/08 - If there’s one thing that defines newly released rom-com “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” it isn’t the indie soundtrack, the sight gags or the cosmopolitan streets of New York. In one word, it’s subtlety. Similar in style to leading man Michael Cera’s previous work, “Juno,” audiences won’t be left roaring in the aisles, nor will they leave theaters overwhelmed with emotion. “Nick and Norah” isnR

'Nick & Norah's' Kat Dennings: Screen teen angel
For someone who doesn't 'know the way normal teenagers act,' Kat Dennings has made a career of doing a pretty good impression of one. Kat Dennings doesn't play your ordinary teenager. She wouldn't know how.
