Hand-Drawny 'Brothers Bloom' Poster
The Brothers Bloom has been on my movies-I'll-put-forth-effort-to-see radar since the trailer debuted last year, and now writer/director Rian Johnson (Brick!) has revitalized my interest for the May release with a new, hand-drawn poster by his cousin. I'd say the stylized, purposefully antiquated take on the floating heads standard is pretty charming, even if Adrien Brody does look like he belongs in the background of a Scorsese film. Well done, Zach Johnson.
And here's a newish trailer:
Rian Johnson Interview: The Brothers Bloom
He's done it again. Rian Johnson , that is. The refreshingly unassuming director of 2005's remarkable teenage noir thriller Brick has once again made the old seem new, the tired seem fresh, and the implausible both plausible and endearing. The Brothers Bloom , which he himself describes as a "con men love story," is fascinatingly original. Not in premise perhaps, but in tone, setting, and the conclusions it draws about life, love, and other such cons. We sat down recently to discuss his...
Rian Johnson’s Sophmore Flick ‘The Brothers Bloom’ Is Pushed Back Again
Can’t wait to see Rian Johnson’s (Brick) second film? Well, the news is that Summit Entertainment has pushed the release date from December 19, 2008 (LA & NY) and January 16, 2009 (wide) to a limited release on May 15, 2009 and a wide release on May 29, 2009. Don’t worry! There’s no problem with the film as I saw the finished product at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The reason for the push back is the timing of the film because January is alrea
THE BROTHERS WON'T BLOOM FOR ANOTHER FEW MONTHS
I had a feeling this might happen. I just got an email from Summit, and this is what it said:Summit Entertainment will release writer-director Rian Johnson’s acclaimed romantic adventure THE BROTHERS BLOOM, in select markets on May 15, 2009, and a wide release on May 29, 2009, as announced today. The movie was supposed to be doing a limited release this month, putting it in Oscar consideration (screenplay at the very least!), but now the film is out of prestige season. It's an interesting
'Brothers' Now to Bloom in May '09
This had been hush-hush for a mild while now, but it looks like Rian Johnson's The Brothers Bloom has been bumped back yet again to next May. Back in September, I had mentioned that the crime caper had moved from October to a NY/LA qualifying run next week and a wide release in January. The difference between that post and this one is that I was fortunate to see the film at Fantastic Fest a couple of months back, and it was good enough to make me equally anxious to just see the film again.

Rian Johnson's The Brothers Bloom Delayed Until Summer
Unlike the news that Universal was shifting the release date of Fast & Furious, this is good news! Summit Entertainment has announced that they are delaying the release of Rian Johnson's The Brothers Bloom until May 15th next summer. Summit pushed the release from January due to an apparent "glut of similar upscale features in the January marketplace" and the immense positive buzz that the film has been gaining. "We knew from our early tests and from enthusiastic festival reception that thi
Gorgeous Hand-Drawn Poster for The Brothers Bloom
Our friend Rian Johnson has finally posted a good version of the gorgeous hand-drawn poster for The Brothers Bloom. I first saw this when I caught the film at the New Beverly in Los Angeles (for my third time, mind you) and Rian had put it up in the poster boxes outside of the cinema. Unfortunately it's not an official poster, but it damn well should be! I'm quite interested to see what Summit ended up choosing if this isn't the official poster, because this is truly beautiful. It was drawn...
Cool Stuff: Zach Johnson’s Alternative Poster for The Brothers Bloom
Rian Johnson ’s cousin Zach Johnson created an alternative poster for The Brothers Bloom . Zach is responsible for a lot of the hand-drawn artwork included in the film. He created the alternative poster as a free side project, and Summit liked it so much they added it to the film’s official website . Check out the full poster and the artist’s thoughts after the jump.
Watch the opening sequence of 'The Brothers Bloom'
Director Rian Johnson's movie Brick very much divided the relatively small number of people who saw it. Some, such as myself, thought it a brilliantly skilled relocation of the noir genre (specifically the work of crime author Dashiell Hammett) to a contemporary high school. And some thought it a load of overly arch baloney. Anyway, Johnson has now posted the opening sequence of his follow-up The Brothers Bloom on hulu.com . The film, which the director describes as a "big, fun,...

The First 7 Minutes of Rian Johnson’s The Brothers Bloom
Rian Johnson ’s ( Brick ) “big fun globetrotting con man movie” The Brothers Bloom doesn’t hit theaters until May 29th, but right now you can watch the first 7 minutes on Hulu . Things to look out for: One of the young Brothers Bloom is played by Where the Wild Things star Max Records , as Rian points out in the intro. You might recognize the voice in the voice over narration as Magician Ricky Jay , who also provided some narration for Paul Thomas...
Brothers Bloom Trailer Isn’t An Adventure Story, but Totally Is
It's no secret that I'm looking forward to The Brothers Bloom. The acting talent in it looks stellar, Rian Johnson is a great director, and I'm a sucker for a good conman story. I'm also a sucker for a brunette in a bowler hat. Feel free to send me your digits if you fit the bill.
For now, check out the new trailer that just landed in our hands while we were praying for a visit from Emilie De Ravin (I've recently gotten into Lost, and I'm also a sucker for blondes). While the trailer isn't as...

The Brothers Bloom Moved to Summer
A bit of disappointing news. Summit Entertainment has decided to delay the release of Brick director Rian Johnson’s acclaimed con adventure film The Brothers Bloom from early January to May 15th 2009 in select markets, and May 29th wide.
Moving the film to film to late May shows confidence in the film, but putting it out on May 29th up against Up, which looks to be Pixar’s most adult film to date, might not be the best idea in the world.

Toronto Review: Rian Johnson's The Brothers Bloom
Style, substance, comedy, romance, suspense, explosions, guns, con men, Belgians, Russians, Lamborghinis, harps, and everything in between. I don't know how Rian Johnson does it, but he's done it again. The Brothers Bloom is a con film, in short, and is colorfully entertaining and immensely quirky, eclectic, and brilliant, to say the very least. From Brick to Brothers Bloom, Johnson is a very young filmmaker that exudes raw creativity and here yet again it really shows to the fullest extent. To be honest, i

‘Brothers Bloom’ trailer
Just getting around to posting this…
Faulkner joins THE BROTHERS BLOOM on their final job
Director Rian Johnson arrived on the scene in 2006 with BRICK, a highly original film noir-cum-high school movie. Now credit where it’s due; it was a gutsy idea, but for me it didn’t work. Here, with THE BROTHERS BLOOM, the basic premise is one of the oldest in the book, however it turns out to be to the film’s credit that it is not as original as Brick, as it allows Johnson to freshen up a tired genre with a dash of his own undeniable flair without going overboard.
The film opens with a

BROTHERS BLOOM Trailer 2
Rama’s SCREEN reader Jeremy would love this. He’s seen this movie so I’m a bit envious ha! I’ve heard good things about it and from the looks of this new trailer, via Yahoo , having Rachel Weisz character as someone who collects hobbies is something unique, funny and brilliant. That means she’s not one to be easily conned.
THE BROTHERS BLOOM was supposed to be released last year but you know how it is.. studios or distributors can be confused sometimes...

New Bros Bloom poster
Tomorrow I finally see THE BROTHERS BLOOM. I've waiting to see this film since the end credits rolled on BRICK in the movie theater when I said to myself, "I can't wait to see what that guy's gonna do next." That guy just happens to be Rian Johnson who'll finally see BLOOM hit theaters on May 29th across the country. To help celebrate (or perhaps so off how talented his family is), Johnson commissioned his brother to create a poster for the film. Summit politely said, "uhh no thanks" but the...
