Stiller jokes about Tropic role

www.rte.ie - 17th Sep 2008

Ben Stiller: Ben Stiller has joked that his role as an egotistical movie star in new comedy spoof 'Tropic Thunder' is "real method acting" at the film's UK premiere.
The movie mocks Hollywood, but has courted controversy in the US, where not all audiences have appreciated jokes about the mentally disabled and race, with protests marring its American premiere.
It tells the story of a group of actors in a Vietnam war movie who are accidentally dropped into the middle of a real danger zone.Advertisement
Writer and director Stiller said his turn as a big-headed star was: "real method acting".
He joked: "I think actors have a really good sense of humour about themselves. At the end of the day it's a bloodless crime when you make fun of Hollywood." Read full story at www.rte.ie

It may not be Batman, but Tropic Thunder just keeps rolling. The Ben Stiller Hollywood spoof will likely fend off a new round of newcomers this weekend, the biggest challenge coming from Vin Diesel's sci-fi adventure Babylon A.D. Look for Thunder to strike at about $16 million, while Babylon should do about $13 over the four-day holiday. Disaster Movie, the latest skewering of all things pop culture, should come in at third with $12 million, while the goofball comedy should debut low in the top 10 with ab

$10 M. Thunder! Ben Stiller Buys Riverside Duplex from Zabar Scion
There’s something so inoffensive and smiley about Ben Stiller that he can make phallus-in-the-zipper jokes (or write and direct a Hollywood blockbuster that heavily features blackface) but still come across as a really amiable fellow who likes to stay in close proximity to his aging parents. So it makes sense that he just spent $10 million on a duplex in a prewar orange-brick co-op on Riverside Drive in the West 80s, the same building that his parents, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, have lived in for year
