Barack Obama: Tuesday could be a long day for election officials in states relying on electronic-voting machines to record votes in the U.S. presidential election, if early reports of malfunctions are any indication. Problems with e-voting machines were reported early on Election Day in several U.S. states, including Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Virginia, which are identified as battleground states where the outcome of the vote could tip the presidential race in favor of either Democratic Sen. Barack Obama or Republican Sen. John McCain. According to voter reports on the ground and from watchdog organizations, there were problems with getting e-voting machines up and running in these key states and others, and in some cases the machine

Celebration Leads to Arrests in Williamsburg
As spontaneous parties broke out on every corner last night (just check out St. Mark's Place), things got a little bit crazy in Williamsburg once Barack Obama was declared leader of the free world--and there's nothing like a peaceful celebration to bring out the cops in riot gear! One tipster writes in about a reveler's run-in with the long arm of the law on North 7th and Bedford. We were trying to get onto the sidewalk, as requested but hard to do when it is packed. Hofstra Gets Ready for Wednesday's Presidential Debate
Hofstra University on Long Island is gearing up to welcome John McCain and Barack Obama and tons of media this week. The school may spend over $3.5 million, including a $7,500 fee to apply and $1.35 million to the Presidential Debate Commission to be a host. Hofstra President Stuart Rabinowitz points out to Newsday that the school opened a center for presidential studies, not to mention holding eleven conferences to discuss different presidential administrations since 1982, "Nobody could suggest it was jus

Hasselbeck Keeps Us On Our Toes
Within minutes of hearing the news that Barack Obama would be the next President of the United States, my mind went to a dark place: "Take that, Elisabeth Hasselbeck!" I couldn't wait to turn on The View this morning and watch the show's resident crazy cry in shame and weep for the state of our nation. Unfortunately, she threw us for a loop and acted like a classy, intelligent human being. Who knew? Bonus footage includes Sherri Shepherd crying tears of joy in response to last night

Obama Saves Print for One Day
Barack Obama discovered a way to keep print publications from dying! He just needs to get elected president every day forever and erase everyone's memory of the event after each successive election. By doing so, he'd ensure that each normally insignificant newspaper would have the possibility of increasing in value in a hundred years, thus sending every overgrown baseball card collector out to get a Times they can look at and never read, as they're doing today. You really are amazing, Ameri

Racist Moron Palin Clowns Continue To Be Racist Moron Palin Clowns
The only thing “funny” about this latest video clip from a Palin Nuremberg Rally is that it happened in Pennsylvania, where Barack Obama holds a commanding double-digit lead. That’s right, these people will soon be the helpless subjects of a BLACK TERRORIST PRESIDENT, who will tragically extend their miserable lives by ensuring they have health care and social security, while employing their trucknutz-loving adult children on huge New New Deal infrastructure projects in Pennsylvania backwa

Barack Obama Reminds A Crowd Of 240,000 That "Yes, We Can"
If you were too busy hitting the streets to celebrate or, on the other end of the spectrum, cursing the fates and weeping tears of fear and sorrow, to watch Barack Obama's acceptance speech last night, here it is. He resurrected that good ol' "Yes We Can" from the primaries to great dramatic effect. Oh, and Malia and Sasha are getting a puppy. They deserve one. Here's John McCain's teary-eyed — yes, teary-eyed — concession speech. Nov 5, 2008 &m

Obama, flush with cash, buys up primetime network TV
Well it looks like Barack Obama can have the stage all to himself after all — and he doesn’t need John McCain to suspend his campaign to do it. The Democratic nominee for President is going the route of Matthew Lesko, Miss Cleo and Richard Simmons. He’s doing an infomercial. Prime time The Obama campaign is buying up the equivalent of waterfront property on the airwaves, purchasing 30-minute blocks of prime time on CBS and NBC. Expensive? Very. Corzine on Treasury Job Rumors
Now that Barack Obama has been elected, the most fervent speculation about his cabinet appointments might be around who will take over the Treasury. On the list is NJ Governor Jon Corzine, former Hillary Clinton supporter and Goldman Sachs chairman. While billionaires Donald Trump and Wilbur Ross think Corzine would be great, the governor said, "I'm not going to say never to anything. I want to be very clear: I like what I'm doing. I have not had any conversations with anybody about this job. People can s

Schieffer set to moderate last debate
The debate season that has chewed up its moderators comes to a close Wednesday when John McCain and Barack Obama meet for the third time, with CBS News' Bob Schieffer directing the discussion. The veteran "Face the Nation" host won't telegraph what he will ask. But he said he will be seeking more details about their potential presidencies than have been evident so far. "By now we've all heard their talking points," he said. "We've heard the general outlines of what they are talking about. The time has c

Congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama!  It’s definitely a bittersweet day for many as it appears that Proposition 8 in California may pass.  I think Prop 8 is about fear more than hate but either way, I just don’t understand it.  I’m straight and married…my anniversary is today actually.  Why shouldn’t anyone else, gay or straight, be entitled to forget celebrate their wedding anniversary as well?  It doesn’t affect me or my life…if love and happiness

Oprah Celebrates Obama Win
Almost a year after calling Barack Obama "The One," Oprah Winfrey is celebrating his victory. During her post-election special--which will air at 4 p.m. on WABC 7 (and repeat at 1 a.m.)--there were guests like David Gergen, Rep. John Lewis, Peggy Noonan and Gloria Steinem and some special ones. And Oprah, who is excited she can finally "unleash" and discuss politics, also held up the Chicago Sun Times and waved a flag! Winfrey spoke to Power 105.1's Ed Lover yesterday and said (audio) that she'd welcome

Dancing In The Streets
At the election party I went to last night, everyone screamed, hugged, and jumped up and down when Barack Obama was declared the winner. It was happening all over the country. Pictured above is the celebration in Harlem. Check out some other pictures from election celebrations after the jump. I slipped one of a weepy Jesse Jackson in there for good measure. .gallery { margin: auto; } .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; }

Remember The Primaries?
The drama created in the past few months by the selection of the vice-presidential candidates and the conventions might have made you forget all of the intense months that preceded the general election. Everything is all warm and fuzzy between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton now, but for a while there, the primary threatened to permanently split the Democratic party down the middle. It clearly did not, but still. Let's reminisce with this Daily Kos video that looks back over this long, crazy campaign.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Responds to Obama Win
We couldn’t wait to turn on The View this morning to see how Elisabeth Hasselbeck was going to react on air to Barack Obama being elected president last night. Barbara asked Elisabeth to respond to the news, and she surprised us all by delivering a compassionate and eloquent speech of her own. We can only hope that fellow John McCain supporters, especially those booing Barack’s name in Phoenix last night, will follow Elisabeth’s lead in supporting our new president. Because in the words

Sarah Palin Sorry She Ruined the Election for McCain [Politics]
newVideoPlayer("/Sarah_Palin_is_sorry.flv", 506, 423,""); When maverick John McCain picked moose-hunting maverick Sarah "Pit Bull" Palin as his running mate, everybody said that it was the typical sort of impulsive McCain gamble that would make him such a terrible leader—and cost him votes. Here's Palin admitting as much.
