Is Leno's 10 p.m. experiment nearing an end?: PHOTO
Despite plenty of fanfare and early success, ratings for “The Jay Leno Show” have been in steady decline. If that weren't bad enough for NBC, the struggling show is contributing to lower numbers for the venerable "Tonight Show" as well as local affiliate newscasts.
Comcast, NBCU takeover 'within sight'
General Electric (GE) and Comcast Corp have agreed a value for GE's NBC Universal (NBCU), making a US$30bn deal imminent, according to reports. Last week, GE and Comcast reportedly agreed that the latter would take a 51% stake in NBCU, with GE gradually selling its remaining 49% over several years. Now that a valuation is said to have been agreed, a deal could be announced as early as this week. Sources close to the negotiations have said the final details are being hammered out, and that they...
'Football' scores win for NBC in ratings
NBC’s highest-rated “Sunday Night Football” contest of the television season, featuring the Dallas Cowboys against the Philadelphia Eagles, dominated last night’s primetime ratings race, sending top entertainment series on rival nets to season lows. Preliminary estimates for live sports action are always a bit murky, but Sunday’s 20-16 victory by the Cowboys in an NFL matchup of division rivals averaged a 7.6 rating/19 share in adults 18-49 and 19.8 million viewers on the NBC
Lots of smoke but likely to be few flames in D.C. for Comcast-NBC: PHOTO
The takeover of General Electric Co.'s NBC Universal by cable giant Comcast Corp. is expected to be announced very soon, and already public interest groups are lining up to do battle in D.C. against the deal. The Center for Digital Democracy's chief, Jeff Chester, recently told Broadcasting & Cable that the still-to-be proposed marriage is "the equivalent of Godzilla swallowing Rockefeller Plaza." How's that for hyperbole? Yes, a deal between Comcast and NBC Universal...

Comcast To Buy NBC Universal Agree To Price $30 Billion
The sale of NBC Universal took a step closer Monday as General Electric, which holds an 80% stake in NBC U, and Comcast agreed the price tag, according to wire reports. The pair have valued NBC U at around $30 billion. Under the proposed deal, Comcast would take a 51% stake in order to control the company. However, it is not a done deal as Vivendi, which holds the remaining 20% in NBC U, is able to veto the pact. The Federal Communications Commission could also scupper the plan on anti-trust...

Legacies, Celebrities, and Media Skanks
by Walter Brasch
Legacies, Celebrities, and Media Skanks
by Walter Brasch NBC news correspondent Jenna Bush Hager had a news exclusive. And, like news exclusives in the Era of Infotainment TV, this one was broadcast by the entertainment division. Specifically, Jenna Bush interviewed her mother, Laura Bush, on 38th episode of “The Jay Leno Show.” It makes no difference what the questions or answers were. Journalism hasn’t been a priority of television for a long time. What matters is that a network hired someone with no background...

Here's a rundown of significant broadcast TV developments, including the fall's winners and losers: Biggest flop : NBC's bold experiment to bring "The Jay Leno Show" to prime time has a been a disaster on three fronts: 1. Eastwick Gets The Axe: PHOTO
The verdict is in on ABC's 10 p.m. freshman dramas. The network has ordered five more episodes of The Forgotten , the procedural crime drama from executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer. No such luck for Eastwick, which will not go beyond the initial 13 ABC ordered. The Wednesday at 10 time period is the likely location for a new season of Lost . Eastwick has struggled against NBC's The Jay Leno Show and time period leader CSI:NY on CBS. The Forgotten hasn't exactly blazed on Tuesday, but the...
Veterans use bingo to raise thousands.
Some local veterans are playing a popular game to give thousands of dollars to charities. NBC 6 reporter Karen Hopkins got in on a fun time. Bingo! It sure feels good to win, but this is a game that keeps on giving. Four Shreveport veteran groups volunteer almost every night to manage this bingo crowd. Each person pays to play. Last year, the vets raised about $300,000. “The community benefits because we give it all back to the community,” Wenzel Oesterreich says. A thousand bingo bucks goes...
HOT DISH: A Girl Named Taylor Swift
No two ways about it, Taylor Swift is a phenomenon. Not a week goes by that she doesn't make headlines about something. She's outsold everyone else's CDs and headlined a sold-out concert tour. She writes songs, sings 'em, sells 'em and is awarded for 'em. Between Concerts, she stops to visit Ellen DeGeneres or Oprah Winfrey on their daytime TV shows or appears at night on shows hosted by the likes of Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel and Conan O'Brien. Just Saturday (Nov. 7), she hosted...
Shreveport could save thousands by hiring Bossier officers.
The city of Shreveport hopes to save hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars by hiring fully trained officers from a nearby city. As NBC 6 reporter Karen Hopkins found, it could help prevent deadly crimes. Cora Savannah's husband of nearly 30 years was stabbed to death about 4 years ago. “We went to school together, grew up together.” But in an instant, he was gone. “The pain you can't describe. I couldn't eat, sleep, my heart was so empty. I was thinking this is a dream. But now, she's...

Pixies:
"Here Comes Your Man" (Live on Conan) (Video)
The Pixies’ Doolittle tour is another chance for them to rake in those precious reunion dollars, and the band celebrated by appearing on Conan O’Brien’s show on Friday night (Nov. 6). The talk show host holds up a copy of the box set, Minotaur , before the performance begins, which looks like it weighs a ton. The members of the Pixies are well drilled at this point—it’s been five years since they reformed, and there’s still no sign of any new material...
