Hand-Drawny 'Brothers Bloom' Poster
The Brothers Bloom has been on my movies-I'll-put-forth-effort-to-see radar since the trailer debuted last year, and now writer/director Rian Johnson (Brick!) has revitalized my interest for the May release with a new, hand-drawn poster by his cousin. I'd say the stylized, purposefully antiquated take on the floating heads standard is pretty charming, even if Adrien Brody does look like he belongs in the background of a Scorsese film. Well done, Zach Johnson. And here's a newish trailer:

Five Favorite Films With Director Rian Johnson
With Brick , Rian Johnson established himself as a filmmaker to watch. An audacious debut, it set a classic film noir plotline within a contemporary high school setting, and helped establish Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a leading man. Now, Johnson's back with The Brothers Bloom , a globe-trotting con man movie starring Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo, and Rachel Weisz that hits theaters this week. In an interview with RT, Johnson decided to select his five favorite con man movies of all time. He...

Adrien and Rachel Pose Without Their Bloom Brother
Adrien Brody took his new, streaked hairstyle to the red carpet for a screening of The Brothers Bloom in NYC last night. His costar Rachel Weisz kept him company, while his onscreen brother Mark Ruffalo skipped the event. The movie hits theaters on May 29, and we're already excited to see that it features the clean-shaven Adrien Brody face we've been missing.

Rian Johnson’s Sophmore Flick ‘The Brothers Bloom’ Is Pushed Back Again
Can’t wait to see Rian Johnson’s (Brick) second film? Well, the news is that Summit Entertainment has pushed the release date from December 19, 2008 (LA & NY) and January 16, 2009 (wide) to a limited release on May 15, 2009 and a wide release on May 29, 2009. Don’t worry! There’s no problem with the film as I saw the finished product at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The reason for the push back is the timing of the film because January is alrea

The Brothers Bloom: Wes Anderson Without Wes Anderson, But We Think That's Okay!
Here’s a question: if a talented upstart so perfectly apes the style of an established icon, should we be upset or should we sit back and enjoy the ride? We bring this up because after watching the first seven minutes of Rian Johnson’s con-man movie,  The Brothers Bloom ( available right now over at Hulu ), we’re convinced that Mr. Johnson has made the best Wes Anderson movie Wes Anderson never made … and that doesn’t really bother us.

Movie Review - 'Blindness'
Blindness Starring Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, and Gael Garcia Bernal Directed by Fernando Meirelles Rated R It's a tough position to be in, wanting something to be better than it is. I don't have kids, but if I did, I imagine I'd have to pretend to like a lot of school plays and soccer games. Chicago Cubs fans have had to pretend for 100 years that they actually believe this is the year, despite evidence to the contrary (again). With Blindness, I wanted badly to appreciate it more th

Rachel Weisz Can Play The Accordion… And Rap!
Rachel Weisz attends the screening of her new movie, The Brothers Bloom , with costar Adrien Brody at NYC’s Tribeca Grand Screening Room on Thursday (May 7). The 39-year-old British actress finished off her look with a Bottega Veneta clutch, Solange Azagury-Partridge jewels, and Jimmy Choo ’s “Keenan” platform sandals. “I don’t have too many hidden blessings in real life so I kind of have to fake them all on screen,” Rachel told FWD...

Adrien Brody turns the hair blue
The US actor showed off his new highlights at the Cinema Society screening of his new film, The Brothers Bloom, at the Tribeca Grand screening room in New York, where he posed on the red carpet with co-star Rachel Weisz. Adrien went for the smart look, wearing a black suit with white shirt and a matching black tie, while the British beauty chose a demure ruched animal-print dress, black cut-out heels and a small gold clutch. They were joined at the low-key screening by Adrien's Cadillac...

The /Filmcast: After Dark - Ep. 47 - Michael Mann and Rian Johnson’s Brick (GUEST: Dan Trachtenberg)
The /Filmcast: After Dark is a recording of what happens right after The /Filmcast is over, when the kids have gone to bed and the guys feel free to speak whatever is on their minds. In other words, it’s the leftover and disorganized ramblings, mindfarts, and brain diarrhea from The /Filmcast, all in one convenient audio file. In this episode, Dave Chen , Peter Sciretta , Devindra Hardawar and Adam Quigley discuss some of the works of Michael Mann, lavish praise on Rian Johnson’s ...

Kristen Bell - Trailer - Showtimes - Cast - Movies & TV - NYTimes.com
From All Movie Guide: For some actors, success just seems to come naturally. In the case of talented stage and screen beauty Kristen Bell , it wasn't so much a matter of if she was going to be a star after realizing her dream during an early performance as a Banana in Raggedy Ann and Andy at the tender age of 12 -- but when she would finally make the big time. Paralyzed with stage fright as she waited for her cue off-stage, Bell was offered a word of encouragement by her supportive...

‘Brother’s Bloom’ Getting Pushed Back
‘Brother’s Bloom’, Rian Johnson’s follow-up to his debut, ‘Brick’, is getting pushed back a few months, according to his own message board.  The film, originally slated to be released on October 10th, is now getting a limited release on December 19th.  The film will open in New York and Los Angeles at that time and get a wider release on January 16th. It was up against ‘Body of Lies’, Ridley Scott’s spy thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell

Rian Johnson And ‘Groo The Wanderer’: A Match Made In Some Alternate Future?
With multiple feature films, licensed games, a television series and continuing adventures in the comics world, hasn’t Robert E. Howard’s best-selling barbarian, Conan, had enough time in the spotlight? Isn’t it time for another barbarian to flex his muscles in the live-action world — a barbarian like Sergio Aragonés’ “Groo the Wanderer,” perhaps? Director Rian Johnson (”Brick”, “The Brothers Bloom”) offered up some thoughts on the subject

The Brothers Bloom Review (TIFF ‘08)
Something of a poorly-kept secret among critics and cinephiles, Rian Johnson’s 2006 Brick was the type of debut that opens doors. Case in point? Just check out the cast that the writer/director was able to snag for his follow-up, a whip-smart con men comedy called The Brothers Bloom: two Oscar winners (Adrien Brody and Rachel Weisz), an Academy Award nominee (Babel’s Rinko Kikuchi), and Mark Ruffalo. Not bad, huh? Well, luckily, neither is his movie. That shouldn’t come as much of a surpr
