Guy Ritchie's "Sherlock Holmes" to Star... *Drum Roll*... Robert Downey Jr.!
While the Judd Apatow-produced Sacha Baron Cohen/Will Ferrell comedic revisiting of Sherlock Holmes gets underway, Guy Ritchie's more serious adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's detective series will beat them to the punch, with none other than Robert Downey Jr. backing it. Yes, that is correct. Robert Downey Jr. will play Sherlock Holmes. No more than a week ago, when I was geeking out about the prospects of Cohen's hilarious portrayal, I assumed nothing could elevate my interest in Ritchie's project

Michael Jackson Scene Cut From Brüno Shortly Before Premiere
It appears that even the irreverent humor of cultural satirist Sacha Baron Cohen has its limits. In the wake of pop star Michael Jackson ’s death on Thursday, the decision was made — rightly, I think — to remove from a scene from Cohen’s “ Brüno ” featuring La Toya Jackson. The timing of the cut was apparently very tight, as the film’s L.A. premiere at Mann’s Chinese Theater was scheduled for the same night. Universal issued a terse statement...

The death of Michael Jackson shocked the world yesterday, including producers of Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest uncomfortably funny comedy, Brüno: those in charge raced to cut mocking footage of LaToya Jackson just hours before the film debuted in L.A., AFP reported. The character of Brüno convinces LaToya in the movie that he’s an Austrian fashion journalist while taking a few comedic shots at her (including a scene where she eats sushi off the body of a naked Mexican worker acting...

Michael Jackson: No laughing matter in 'Bruno'
From our friends at Company Town: Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen is a fearless, equal-opportunity offender, but when it comes to jokes about Michael Jackson in Cohen's new film "Bruno" (July 10),  there apparently are limits: at the last minute, "Bruno's" filmmakers have cut out a sequence about Jackson and his sister, La Toya. When the film was shown to audiences several weeks ago, "Bruno" included a scene where Cohen's title character -- a...

Razzi Snap: DiCaprio’s Home Filming Comes In Handy Again
Seems like Hollywood has taken to shooting videos on DiCaprio property. Last year, the actor admitted that all of the interviews in his environmental doc, The 11th Hour, were shot in his mother’s garage. Last week on Ellen, he said that the new “Go Vote” PSA for Declare Yourself was filmed entirely at his home in LA. These days, who really needs a professional studio to churn these clips out? A Saturn EV1 — the ill-fated star of the doc Who Killed The Electric Car — recently s

True believers - in comedy
The world of comedy being as cozy and as incestuous as it is, you might readily assume that two giants by the name of Bill Maher and Larry Charles would have been rubbing shoulders - and cracking each other up - for years. Not so. Like a French farce, Maher was always just coming in the door when Charles was leaving. Or vice versa. So it wasn't until Maher, the wickedly politically incorrect American stand-up comic/talk-show host, began looking a few years ago for someone to direct a documentary film satiri

Deal was worked on throughout the weekend by Viacom general counsel Michael Fricklas and Par vice chairman Rob Moore (for Paramount) and David Geffen and attorney Skip Brittenham (on behalf of DreamWorks). Geffen will not be joining the new DreamWorks. Though the two companies declined to list the projects affected because filmmakers are still
