"Saturday Night Live" scores with swipe at Madonna and spoofs of James Bond, Arianna Huffington, Bill Clinton, automakers and "Dateline"

James Bond: There is life after Sarah Palin and Tina Fey. "Saturday Night Live" is carrying on just fine after the election. This weekend's show was the most consistent since the season's start. Current events keep supplying choice material for satire. The show opened with a devastating spoof of Big Three automakers seeking help on Capitol Hill. The execs were unworried that C-SPAN was showing the hearing because no one watches that channel. (Fred Armisen was just wonderful as Rep. Barney Frank.) "Weekend Update" supplied sharp impressions of Bill Clinton (Darrell Hammond, of course) and Arianna Huffington (newcomer Michaela Watkins). As a photo of Madonna flashed on the screen, anchor Seth Meyers observed of her divorce: "This week a British court released a cougar back into the wild." Other high points: Andy Samberg played a dead ringer for Vanilla Ice whose rap style impressed Ludacris and appalled T-Pain. Host Tim McGraw had his best moments as a hayseed playing cards with James Bond (Bill Hader). But my favorite sketch came from Hader -- in a scathing spoof of "Dateline." Saturday Night Live: Tim McGraw's Receding Hairline, Plus Videos!
Tim McGraw, sir, you are going bald.  It's OK.  No one will judge you.  You're famous already, you have a hot wife and you have a loyal fan base.  The skull cap is unnecessary.  Embrace it, Tim.  Be one with your hairline. Everything will be OK.  Stop fighting the inevitable. Now that I have that off my chest (and this had been festering since Saturday night), we can move on to the Saturday Night Live festivities of this past weekend.  The aforementioned country st

SNL's Gay Minstrel Show [Snl]
newVideoPlayer("/SNL_Gay_Montage.flv", 506, 423,""); Where do you mine for easy laughs when you no longer have the most satirizable election in history at your disposal? In SNL's case, that would be the Gays, a topic this week's Paul Rudd-hosted episode visited and revisited so often, we lost count. And where does the show stand on the subject, in this, arguably the most important week for gay civil rights in history? Enjoy the highlight reel above, accompanied by this handy synopsis:· The fun start

Ludacris And T-Pain Meet Blizzard Man
Ludacris and T-Pain participated in a skit on last night’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ with Luda replacing T-Pain at the Megahits Studio with Andy Samberg’s character, the Vanilla Ice influenced Blizzard Man. Ludacris loved Blizz’s cheesy raps, but T-Pain was horrified before Tim McGraw, who played Blizz’s record company boss, walked in to back his guy. Watch the comedy clip below. SNL Just The Funny Parts: Even Tim McGraw's Enthusiasm Couldn't Save This One
What happened this week, SNL? Has the post-election hangover really set in, with a Justin Timberlake ace already played? Were you scared to try anything interesting after blog criticism of last week's "gay" episode? Or, worst-case, did you think that because of Saturday's guests, no smart people would be watching? Because that would be really cynical. Tim McGraw was great -- too bad the writing wasn't. There only were three funny parts on this week's show. Video after the jump. 3. This is described as "J

Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update Thursday (October 23, 2008) - VIDEOS
Filed under: OpEd, Saturday Night Live, Episode Reviews, Reality-Free Well, that concludes Saturday Night Live's three week run of "Weekend Update Thursday." There were some good jokes here and there, including tonight's especially strong cold open, but looking back, we really could have done without these three episodes. Most of this material, election-related and otherwise, could have been bumped to the regular Saturday program without any problem. I'm sure we could come up with a list of sketches in the

‘SNL’: Paul Rudd’s Pixelated Crotch Takes on Prop 8
Not long ago, we (and lots of others) predicted that once the election was over — after Tina Fey and Will Ferrell stopped showing up, and following Amy Poehler's departure to have a kid — SNL would be a sad, unfunny, irrelevant mess. Happily, though, we were completely wrong (as usual!). Skit for skit, Saturday's episode might've just been the funniest of the season so far. In an apparent reaction to the passage of Prop 8, most of the night's sketches made punch lines out of intolerance of homos

Mark Wahlberg isn’t a fan of Saturday Night Live.
Mark Wahlberg is not so happy with the “Saturday Night Live” sketch from October 4th called “Mark Wahlberg Talks To Animals”. In Sunday’s NY Post, Mark Wahlberg has a Q&A to help promote his upcoming movie “Max Payne,” towards the end is asked what he thought of the skit. Andy Samberg plays Mark Wahlberg as he talks to a dog, a goat, a chicken and a donkey. It’s described on NBC’s website as “Barky Bark and the Donkey Bunch.” Sample dialo

‘SNL’ Presents The Second Presidential Debate
Last night, NBC aired a special half hour episode of Saturday Night Live in order to capitalize on the current election year. I’m not sure why but tomorrow night’s ep of SNL will be a repeat (they are reairing the season premiere with Michael Phelps as host) so last night’s new ep was a [...]

Saturday Night Live: Ben Affleck/David Cook - VIDEOS
Filed under: OpEd, Saturday Night Live, Episode Reviews, Reality-Free (S34E07) Although I have fond memories of Mango and Ben Who-fleck working Saturday Night Live together back in the day, I was pretty disappointed by this episode. I think someone told Ben Affleck that he's pretty all right on SNL and it got to his head, because he was trying way, way too hard. It was almost to the point where it was unbearably awkward. If not for Senator John McCain's appearances, this episode would have been wholly unrem

Bravo, James Bond !!
“Quantum of Solace,” a tale of the secret agent’s quest to avenge the death of the woman he loved, blasted out $70.4 million in ticket sales this weekend. It was the biggest opening for a Bond film ever and surpassed the high expectations set for the film. Though Bond was clearly the irresistible force at ticket booths, it was a great all-around weekend for Hollywood as two very different comedies, the animated “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” and raunchy “Role Models”

Mocking Arianna The Way She Deserves To Be Mocked [Snl]
On the heels of reports her megablog Huffington Post has received $15 million in venture capital funding, Arianna Huffington got the SNL treatment last night, and it was...really tame. New performer Michaela Watkins captured the details of the HuffPo founder as well as she did in her audition tape, but it missed out on so much of what's really meaningful about Arianna — you know, callous mistreatment of those under her employ, and a fondness for cults. But also, a lot of kissing. Click through for another new BSG 4.5 trailer. This second trailer, which

James Bond’s latest girl dishes about love.
The Ukrainian born beauty who stars as Daniel Craig’s love interest Camille Montes in the latest film in the James Bond movie franchise ‘Quantum of Solace,’ insists she wouldn’t lock lips with someone too soon after meeting them. “I’ve never done that. For me it takes weeks, sometimes months. I have to know a person that long. We have to become friends first. To me sexiness comes from the inside. It’s what a man says, his movements, how he behaves, and it’s a

Private School For Malia & Sasha At $29,000 A Year!
While there was much debate about whether President-elect Barack Obama and wife Michelle would send their daughters to private or public school, there's no wondering now.  It was confirmed on Friday that Malia, 10, and Sasha,7, will attend Sidwell Friends School in Washington.  It's a whooping $29,000 a year in tuition fees. The tuition fee doesn't even cover the cost of textbooks or other services from the school.  For twenty-nine grand, I'd want the school to do m

SNL's Seth Meyers Answers To The Ladies Of The View [View Askew]
newVideoPlayer("/viewseth_jez_512K.flv", 475, 270,""); Seth Meyers, Weekend Update anchor and head writer for Saturday Night Live, was on The View this morning, which must have been a little nerve-wracking for him, since SNL did a View sketch this weekend, in which Kristen Wiig played a hysterically hysterical, "fact" finding Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Kenan Thompson played Whoopi, Fred Armisen nailed Joy Behar's wrist movements, and Casey Wilson played Jennifer Aniston, who was supposed to be sitting in for Sh

'Saturday Night Live' Adds Two Female Cast Members
"Saturday Night Live" is adding two female cast members, an NBC source confirmed to Access Hollywood. The new members are comediennes Michaela Watkins (pictured) ("The New Adventures of Old Christine") and Abby Elliott ("King of the Hill"). New York Magazine's Vulture blog was the first to report the news on Wednesday, based on a Twitter post from media blogger Rachel Sklar. Abby, the daughter of Chris Elliott, is the first child of a former cast member to be hired in the show's 34-season history.

SNL: The Blizz Takes On T-Pain [Clips]
Let's face it: last night's Saturday Night Live was pretty bad. Continuing the dark and creepy direction they took off in last week, the SNL crew took us through a weird skit sequence that involved a mentally ill woman putting super-glue on her teeth, fur-covered turkeys running for their lives, and the worst character the show has tried to push on us in a long time, Jeff Montgomery, sex offender/mental patient, showing up to ruin a family's thanksgiving and creep out the audience. Host Tim McGraw re

Saturday Night Live Thursday Update: Lame W/Out Tina or Sarah
SNL's Weekend Update moved to a new spot in lieu of the upcoming elections, and last night marked the first time the precursor to The Daily Show featured a mid-week special, hosted by Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler. Was it funny? Meh. Was Bill Murray there? Ye-op:   Blurgh. Without Tina Fey doing her Sarah Palin impression, this segment really lags. Couldn't the second presidential debate included an aside from each of the VP candidates? Then SNL would be able to do the only thing they know

Fred Armisen as Obama, Darrell Hammond as McCain in Saturday Night Live

If you missed Tina Fey's second stint as Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live, here's the video. But she wasn't the only one doing a political impersonation. The Voice Cast for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Bill Hader and Anna Faris have signed on to voice the lead characters of Sony Pictures Animation's Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, reports Variety. James Caan, Andy Samberg, Bruce Campbell, Mr. T and Tracy Morgan round out the voice cast for the 3-D project, which is set for release January 15, 2010. The timeless tale will be adapted from Ron and Judi Barrett's book, which illustrates a world where giant pancakes and pasta fall from the sky as a scientist tries to solve world hunger. However, t

Tim McGraw hosts, and 'SNL's' racy side vanishes
There are "Saturday Night Live" sketches that kill and those that bomb, but rare are those that leave the studio audience audibly horrified. That's what happened this week, when the show reintroduced Jeff Montgomery (Will Forte), the escaped mental patient-turned-neighborhood nuisance. This time found Montgomery as the uninvited guest at a family Thanksgiving dinner (NBC.com has not yet put video of the skit on its website). When Forte delivered the kicker, a grotesque crack about the family dog,
