Taking On Fox... But Where's The Beef?
If Goldstein or anyone else wants to take on a studio and how it behaves, please, have at it! But be fair in how you use your stats… or you are not doing the job.
Goldstein uses the most petty journalist trick in the book, selective box office information. He writes;
“This summer has been different. Without a true tentpole film, the results have been dispiriting. The studio's biggest hit was "What Happens in Vegas," a forgettable comedy that grossed $80 million in the U.S. and roughly $215 million
Nothing happens in “The Happening”
Yes. This movie is disturbing, but for all the wrong reasons. No. This movie is not good. I can almost see what probably went down when Mr. Shyamalan got the green light to make his first ever R-Rated film. It must’ve been on the lines of a child at a candy store, but instead of taking all the candy he could with his hands, he was finally given a bag. Now he could try some different candy, give his taste buds some variety, and even be bold by trying things no other kids would.
But there
An Early Review of M. Night Shyamalan's "The Happening"
Steve here. Frosty. Whatever you want to call me. Someone I know managed to see M. Night Shyamalan's new movie “The Happening” and has sent in a review. And as a fan of M. Night’s, it pains me to report he didn’t like the movie.
I really wanted “The Happening” to be a return to form as I love "The Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable". While many of you didn’t like “The Village,” and a lot of people were unhappy with “Signs,” I actually like both of them. Granted, “The Village” isn’t
We Can Make Trees The Awesome Villain They Were Meant To Be [Kronk Burger]
Trees! Millions have trembled at the sound of their villainous name. And yet somehow, in spite of all their world-crushing power, you all voted trees the weakest recent villain in movies and TV. Blame M. Night Shyamalan, whose The Happening failed to capture the true menace of these arboreal conquerors. Clearly, it's time to give trees an edgy new look — and you can help!
First of all, the most important thing is to get back to trees' edgy beginnings. (Or, yes, their roots.) Back when trees star
Shyamalan calls his "Happening" a fun B movie
Director M. Night Shyamalan is best known for the Oscar-nominated global hit "The Sixth Sense," but fans should be under no illusions about his latest thriller, "The Happening."
"I wanted it to be a fantastic, fun B-movie," Shyamalan told Reuters in a recent interview about the eighth film he has written and directed. "The No. 1 thing is I want people to say: 'That was a really fun B-movie."'
After his 2006 flop "Lady In the Water," which was slammed by critics and grossed just $73 million at the box
DVD Review: Postal (Unrated)
Of all the filmmakers that have had cults spring up around them, from M. Night Shyamalan apologists to people who think Michael Bay is the savior we’ve been waiting for, none have deserved it any less that Uwe Boll. He found out one day that he had talent in the negative integers, and tried turning THAT into a marketing ploy. But even at this level of self-awareness, he gets all bent out of shape and starts fights (both verbal and physical) with people who don’t automatically agree with the su
'The Happening' trailer is online
M. Night Shyamalan ("Lady in the Water") directs this grim apocalyptic tale about a family fleeing a natural disaster that poses a grave threat to the whole of humanity.
Stars include Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschanel and John Leguizamo.
Film review: The Strangers
Until his ego exploded and he delivered what is quite possibly 2008's worst movie with schlock-fest The Happening, M Night Shyamalan was a master of intelligent horror films.
With The Strangers, Hollywood might just have found a suitable replacement.
That's thanks to Bryan Bertino, a fledgling director with little experience who expertly crafts a hand-wringlingly tense and occasionally very scary film.
Bertino understands for a horror film to deliver decent thrills, the 'creep' is s
Video: New Red Band Trailer For The Happening
We see mutilated people… all the time.
If the red band trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's latest spooky flick is anything to by, The Happening is going to be one hell of a sick flick. We’ve already had glimpses of people jumping off buildings and doing all manner of ill-advised self-evisceration but the latest X-rated promo doesn’t hold back on the gore – check out the combine harvester bit, ewww!
We’ve got no idea what the hell is going on but an ill wind quite literally seems to be blowing
PASSENGERS trailer & poster
The worst looking M. Night Shyamalan film, not directed by M. Night Shyamalan!
UNBREAKABLE 2?
I’m a big fan of M. Night Shyamalan, he does his own thing, he writes his own material, you gotta hand it to the master of twist endings. But yes, The Happening was major crapola, I still can’t believe he thinks Mark Wahlberg talking to a plant is a funny scene.
Should I lose faith in M. Night’s storytelling ability? I wouldn’t say so. One of his movies I thought was really awesome but critics and movie watchers everywhere hated it was UNBREAKABLE. Dude, that’s a story about s
Exclusive Interviews: Avenged Sevenfold On ‘Live In The LBC & Diamonds In The Rough’
Avenged Sevenfold fans mourning the cancellation of the Long Beach band’s September dates (singer M. Shadows is on vocal rest, but perhaps you can seek consolation in the arms of Tokio Hotel fans who know what it’s like to temporarily lose your lead singer too much rock) can rejoice in two A7X-related items today: the release of their live CD/DVD, Live In the LBC & Diamonds In the Rough (you knew that), and exclusive MTV interviews with the band.

Mark Wahlberg On The Worst Advice He Ever Got…Surprise, It’s From M. Night Shyamalan
“The Happening” may have been a critical flop, but nobody can say Mark Wahlberg holds any grudges against his erstwhile director M. Night Shyamalan. “He’s a sweet guy,” Wahlberg told us. “For whatever mistakes he’s made, I think he’s learned from them and he’s a true artist.”
But that doesn’t mean he’s fishing for career advice from the guy. Because as Wahlberg related, when he saw his ucpoming weapons-toting hero Max Payne in the editing room, “I was like, ‘Yes! This is the

Geek Daily: Who's Sad, Who's Mad, and Who's Just Happy to Be Here
Filed under: Action, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Celebrities and Controversy, Fandom, Newsstand, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels, WarI think this is the quietest week in the land of the nerdy since I started here at Cinematical. No major casting news from Marvel, no new graphic novels optioned, no reboots announced. It was a pretty crazy summer when it came to superheroes -- maybe everyone is just really tired. Nevertheless, let's look at what has come across the wire, shall we? It's a very verbal day
Video: "The Happening" official trailer
Mark Wahlberg will play a man who takes his family on the run when the world turns upside and a cataclysmic natural crisis threatens to end the world.
Also starring Zooey Deschanel, John Leguizamo and Spencer Breslin. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
Due out June 13, 2008.
The ZOO Q&A: Mark Wahlberg!
Some excerpts:
Is it true you turned down the chance to be in the Ocean's films?
Yeah - and it was well worth it! The second one sucked! People tell George Clooney it's great, but we all know it sucked. I made two bad movies instead - Planet Of The Apes and The Truth About Charlie - but doing that was better than sitting with Brad and George, telling the press how great everybody is! "We were in Europe, George was funny, then we had some wine..." - that's not for me. I do love those guys, but I had to s
Ow, My Eye
Emmanuelle Chriqui recently came out and her breasts apparently decided to follow. Everyone in the front row of this event went blind with a single 180 degree turn. It was awesome, like an M. Night Shyamalan movie except good.
If you don't know who Emmanuelle is, you've never seen You Don't Mess with the Zohan or that one movie from like 8 years ago before Lance Bass told everyone he was gay. I forget the name, but he wasn't gay and he liked Emmanuelle Chriqui's character.
Samuel L. Jackson Says “Oui” To Tarantino’s “Inglorious” Possibility
“Pulp Fiction” shot him to superstardom, he had a hilarious-but-intense role in “Jackie Brown,” and eagle-eyed fans might have even noticed Samuel J. Jackson behind the piano in a brief “Kill Bill” cameo. So now that Quentin Tarantino has his much-hyped script for “Inglorious Bastards” completed, and half the world has seemingly read it, will he be playing the role of African-American role?
“I called him to find out if I had to learn French or not!” Jackson laughed when we asked him t
Samuel L. Jackson says “Lose the Bikinis!”
Samuel L. Jackson has played some outstanding characters in the past: Shaft, Mace Windu and Nick Fury. Now he is trying on the voice of the people. In a recent interview with shobizspy, Jackson voiced his opinion on PG films containing strippers. Jackson said” Strippers who don’t strip..suck!” He was referencing a scene in his new film Lakeview Terrace that has a bachelor party with three ladies who dance but remain fully clothed. Jackson added, “But this is a PG movie (actually PG-1
Will Samuel L. Jackson become Tarantino’s “Frenchie”
Another tiny bit of Tarantino gold has sifted through the dust from the recent rush of rumors circling his newest project ‘Inglorious Bastards’ whereas he’s apparently had conversations with Jackson about playing a role in the two-part WWII remake of the original 1978 film by Enzo Castellari. The movie will surely vary immensely from it’s source material, but in a good way. If anyones seen the special features on the 3-disc edition DVD of the original, you’ve seen how big of a
Review: ‘Lakeview Terrace’
Samuel L. Jackson is a natural bad-ass and he convinces me every time that he’s not some you’d want to mess with. Funny thing is, he’s probably a super nice guy in real life… who knows? He’s done some work that strays slightly from this typecast and some of it I’ve really enjoyed… ‘Red Violin’ and ‘Resurrecting the Champ’ come to mind. He always goes back to those roles that we love, and I think these are the roles he is best suited for. R
New photos from ‘The Spirit’
/Film scored some new photos from Frank Miller’s ‘The Spirit’. They look pretty hot, but from the look of the trailer this movie could be a snoozer. Frank Miller might have missed on this one.

Samuel L. Jackson: The Lost Titanic Screen Test
This is totally what James Cameron's Titanic would have sounded like directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Samuel "mother effing" L. Jackson. Not sure why this guy is all over the Internet now, but I like it! Titanic totally would have benefited from this adrenaline shot to the eardrums! (Needless to say, languagewise, it's NSFW.)
