The BET Awards Continue To Wave The Banner For A "Best Ringtone" Award [Everybody's A Winner]
Nominations for BET's Hip-Hop Awards were announced yesterday, and, unsurprisingly, Lil Wayne walked away with the lion's share of the nods, to the point where I have to wonder if the nomination committee was trying to figure out a way to shoehorn him into the Best UK Hip-Hop Act category. Weezy got 12 nominations; Kanye West, meanwhile, received seven nods, and Jay-Z six. Full slate of nominees after the jump.

OBAMA: 'LEAVE PALIN'S PREGNANT DAUGHTER ALONE': Plus, Van Halen's mad at McCain; Miss Alaska winner; Fat Joe blasts Daddy Yankee.
*While the country was focused on tracking Hurricane Gustav's path through the Gulf Coast yesterday, John McCain's camp announced that the unmarried, 17-year-old daughter of his running mate is five months pregnant.
The timing of the news was aimed at squashing rampant Internet rumors that Gov. Sarah Palin's 4-month-old son Trig is actually her daughter's child.

“What They Want” - Review Of Young Jeezy’s The Recession
As much of the U.S. continues to feel the effects on a slumping economy, the hard times have expectantly found their way in the heart of the trap. Ever the people’s spokesman, Young Jeezy has observed the woes of the nation and penned them in his latest urban chronicle, The Recession. Typically labeled as “one-dimensional,” Jeezy adds a noticeable cortex of depth to his hustler inventory, touching on an extensive range of topics over his trademark bass-heavy production that’s equally

“…Til Your Well Runs Dry.”
I’ve been casually monitoring & trying to make sense of the whole Wall Street fiasco, paying even more attention since last Thursday. Young Jeezy Discusses ‘The Recession’, Obama & McCain
Young Jeezy raps about hard economic times on his #1 album, ‘The Recession’. Denise Quan talked with the artist about being on top of the charts, totaling his $600k Lamborghini in front of his family and friends - which he said was a wake-up call, and how Republican presidential candidate John McCain is “a cool dude but I wouldn’t vote for him.” Jeezy said he’d love to meet McCain’s Democratic rival Barack Obama. “First of all I’d congratulate him on eve

Cover Girl's Use Of Gays & Blacks: Progressive? Or Pandering? [Standards Of Beauty]
As previously reported, Cover Girl recently made a deal with Ellen DeGeneres to be the "face" of its brand. But Ellen isn't CoverGirl's first interesting pick: They also have Queen Latifah. As a post on Jossip points out, Queen Latifah is black, not stick-thin, and often rumored to be gay. The brand has also used black ladies like Brandy, Rihanna, Eva Pigford and Kiara Kubukuru in its ads. Jossip asks the question: Is Cover Girl the most progressive cosmetics company? A commenter on Jossip says: No.
Fat Joe: “Daddy Yankee Is A Sell Out”
“I opened the newspaper and got sick to my stomach,” Joe continued. “I felt like I wanted to vomit when I seen that. The reason why I called him a sellout is because I feel he did that for a [publicity] look, rather than the issues that are affecting his people that look up to him. How could you want John McCain in office when George Bush and the Republicans already have half a million people losing their homes in foreclosure? We’re fighting an unjust war. It’s the Latinos and
