Unflappable ‘Douchebag’ Jimmy Fallon Meets His Critics [Tough Crowds]
Once and future late-night afterthought Jimmy Fallon hit his stride on his second day of videoblogging, treating viewers to an early glimpse of the set of his show and reacting about as gleefully as everybody else to NBC’s retention of Jay Leno — a move essentially relegating him to the role of Rockefeller Center’s afterhours janitor. (”Leno goes on for an hour, then the news, then Conan for another hour, and we’re just ramping it up! People are going to be ready fo

As you most likely have heard, NBC announced yesterday that Jay Leno will move to a five night a week primetime show in the Fall of 2009. The fact that one of the major networks has, in effect , given up on the 10 p.m. time slot as a place for scripted dramas is staggering news.

Jimmy Fallon Previews New Show; Obscured By Leno News
Sorry, Jimmy but that was bad timing on NBC’s part. On Monday NBC released the first video from Jimmy Fallon’s daily video messages as he preps for his move into his Late Night position. On Monday night news leaked that Jay Leno wouldn’t be leaving NBC late night after all, but instead would be airing weeknights at 10pm instead of 11:30pm.
EW has an excellent write-up on how this move will save NBC roughly a million dollars a week compared producing weekly dramas.

Leno 1, NBC 0
Jay Leno put a gun to his head and told NBC, “Give me a show or I’ll fire.” The network blinked first, says MarketWatch’s Jon Friedman.

NEW YORK - CBS Corp. Chief Executive Leslie Moonves challenged Jay Leno to a ratings duel when the late-night talk show host moves his NBC show to a prime-time slot of 10 p.m. next fall.

Just be glad Leno didn't get the 8pm slot instead
Filed under: Late Night, Industry, Programming, Celebrities, Talk Show, Reality-FreeI'm sure a lot of "end of the year" lists are going to have to be scrapped and started again because of this whole last-minute, December-to-remember announcement about Jay Leno getting the 10pm time slot every single night on NBC. In a year that saw the writers strike, the Fey/Palin stuff, and the election, this might turn out to be an even bigger story. But it could have been a rather different story if Leno had
Oh, Baby, House Big on Tuesday
Tuesday was a night for reruns. At 9 p.m., previously viewed episodes of CBS' The Mentalist (13.7 million) and Fox's Fringe (7.1 million) got upended in the 18-49 demo by a fresh installment of NBC's The Biggest Loser: Families (10.1 million). The Mentalist's performance assures that it won't repeat as TV's No. 1 scripted show.
At 10 p.m., an all-new Law & Order: SVU (10.9 million) made a case for life on NBC, post-Jay Leno.
With new episodes of According to Jim (5.2 million) and Eli
Jay Leno Moves to Primetime
Jay Leno isn’t leaving your television anytime soon, kids.
NBC announced Tuesday that Jay will get his own show, five nights a week, at 10 pm, after he leaves the Tonight show next May. He’ll be replaced on late-night by Conan O’Brien.
“A lot of people were shocked,” Leno joked on his show Tuesday night. “They didn’t know NBC still had a prime time.”
No word yet on what kind of show Leno will be doing for the primetime slot.

Ellen talks Proposition 8 and gay marriage on Jay Leno
As though we needed any more reason to love this woman, last night Ellen DeGeneres took the opportunity while guesting on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to urge the audience to vote against Proposition 8, which would take away the right of gay Californians (like her and new wife Portia) to marry. And Jay chimed in, noting that there's been gay marriage in his home state for a while and nothing terrible has happened, and asks if we don't have more important things to focus on right now as a country aside fro

Leno at 10: Late Night Reacts
When first we heard the shocking announcement Monday about Jay Leno's move to NBC's 10 p.m. slot next year, we half-expected Conan O'Brien to storm the Tonight Show set and beat Leno to death with Kevin Eubanks's guitar (this still might happen). So what did happen on Conan last night? How did Letterman respond? Reactions from all relevant late-night hosts, after the jump.Conan (following his first commercial break):"I have to talk about something that's happening in my life. I woke up this morning and I sa
Turner Research Shows Overall TV Viewing Up, Networks Down This Year
Television viewing has been up this year, but the big broadcast networks have registered record declines, according to the chief research officer at Turner Broadcasting.
Things will only get tougher for the broadcasters, says Turner’s Jack Wakshlag. He thinks the February transition to digital broadcasting will have a big effect as millions of homes that watch broadcast 100% of the time switch to cable for the digital signal and thus gain access to cable programming.
“The impact of this change is goin
Nightline EP Relieved by Leno News
The Hollywood Reporter's Paul J. Gough talks with Nightline EP James Goldston about the renewed outlook for the show, now that Jay Leno is staying with NBC.
"I don't think we viewed what was going on as an existential threat. It's been an incredibly busy election, then the economic crisis and then the Mumbai story. That's where our focus has been," Goldston said, adding, "There will be people making decisions about what they are going to watch late at night next summer, and we're hopeful tha

Late-night comedians say the vice-presidential debate was disappointing
LOS ANGELES - After weeks of anticipation, the vice-presidential debate was a letdown - at least for late-night comedians.
"There was nothing embarrassing from either candidate," Jay Leno lamented on NBC's "Tonight" show. "Damn."
Even the pundits said there were no losers in Thursday's debate between Republican Sarah Palin and Democrat Joe Biden - "OK, other than gay people who want to get married," Leno said.
David Letterman devoted much of his CBS "Late Show" Friday to discussion of the debate, incl
‘Jay Leno Show’ Takes Competitive Pressure Off, Graboff Says
The host of “The Jay Leno Show” doesn’t expect to beat first-run versions of the scripted drama it will compete with at 10 p.m. weeknights starting in fall 2009.
He doesn’t have to, said Marc Graboff, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios, at a Burbank press conference the day after it was learned that Mr. Leno, who had been assessing his options for after Conan O’Brien takes over “The Tonight Show” June 1, decided to stay with NBC.
“We are not trying to compete,”
Conan On Leno: ‘Temperatures Rising Rapidly In My Personal Hell’ [Conan Obrien]
All eyes were on Conan O’Brien last night in anticipation of what, if anything, he’d say about NBC’s surprise announcement that Jay Leno would upstage his long-planned ascension to The Tonight Show throne. (With a half-hour of local news between the two as the delicious, late night sandwich filling.) While he never said the words “Jay Leno can suck my pink, Irish ass” directly, he did point to the worrisome 20 degree temperature-increase in NYC that accompanied the
So What’s Jay Leno’s New Show Gonna Be Like, Anyway?
Now that reactions to Jay Leno's upcoming move to the 10 p.m. slot have poured in from the furthest reaches of the talk-show circuit, it's time to take a step back and start to think about the creative changes that will be necessary for The Jay Leno Show to make when it starts up in the fall of 2009. Just kidding, no one really cares about the creative process! During yesterday's press conference in Burbank hosted by Leno and NBC co-chiefs Marc Graboff and Ben Silverman, the major motif was one of fiscal re
