Video: Watch John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’
John Carpenter's The Thing, an apocalyptic story that finds an Antarctic research facility besieged by a shape-shifting alien bent on assimilating all life on Earth, is one of my favorite movies of all time. It hits the mark on so many different levels -- a stellar cast that pulls you into their world of paranoid isolation; a haunting and mysterious narrative that never lets up; cinematography that captures the claustrophobic landscape perfectly; and ground-breaking gore-effects that left scars on my adoles
Razzie Nominations Serve A Shocking Snub To 'The Spirit' [Snubs]
newVideoPlayer("/spirit_consid.flv", 506, 423,""); We've just had a look at the official nomination ballot for the Razzies, and we're still reeling from the unexpected shutout of frontrunner The Spirit. We'd had high expectations that no film could surpass The Spirit's unimpeachable Razzie campaign, which featured a 15% fresh Tomatometer rating, a viral "For Your Consideration" ad, and Samuel L. Jackson in a series of fur coats and Nazi costumes. And yet! MTV writer Larry Carroll got his hands on the offici
“High School Musical 3” Receives a Razzie Award

6 Rules For Remaking John Carpenter's They Live [They Live]
Rumor has it that Strike Entertainment is talking about picking up the rights to John Carpenter's They Live. This fills me with mixed emotions, because They Live is full of great moments (like a newsstand filled with black and white subliminal messages embedded into the magazines and papers). But at the same itme, how do you recreate such cheesetastic "I came here to kick ass and chew bubblegum" lines and fight scenes? It's impossible, unless you follow these simple rules.
Before everyone jumps out a
The Spirit Misses Razzie Nomination By A Hair [Razzies]
The nominations for all of the worst movies of 2008 are out. And lucky, lucky Frank Miller missed the nominations for the worst movie in the history in the world by a few days.Unfortunately, The Spirit came out too late to make the Razzie nomination ballot, according to the site:ALTHOUGH IT FLOPPED TOO LATE to MAKE OUR NOMINATING BALLOT, WE THOUGHT ITS UNDER ACHIEVEMENTS EARNED IT a PLACE on OUR FORUM. Frank Miller is a lucky man, but I'm not going to forget the sins this movie committed that easily. See yo
31 Days of Horror: Day 8 - In the Mouth of Madness
Any horror movie list needs to have at least one or two John Carpenter movies on. I thought about throwing Halloween on the list but that is just too simple and everyone has seen it. I’also have to say I’m a bigger fan of In the Mouth of Madness than of his other horror movies. Carpenter manages to create a modern H.P. Lovecraft classic story. In my mind it is fairly easy to create a world where a serial killer is stalking people but it is not so easy to create a terrifying descent into madness

John Carpenter’s They Live Gets a Remake
I have come here to chew bubblegum and remake movies… and I’m all out of bubblegum. Will John Carpenter be the first director to have his entire filmography remade — while he is still alive, no less? It certainly looks that way. With Halloween, The Fog and Assault on Precinct 13 all getting updates over the past few years, and new versions of Escape from New York and The Thing also supposedly in development, now we have yet another one to add to the list: They Live starring Rowdy Roddy Pip
John Carpenter \"Halloween\" Interview
Hey guys,I love the hell out of the video interviews above of John Carpenter about Halloween, which is filled with insight. He talks about suspense. He talks about his affection (and mine as well) for less backstory of the characters. He also walks you through the (now famous) virtuoso opening shot. This brings to mind a piece in Emerson’s Opening Shots Projectwritten by Robert C. Cumbow (who can write superior analysis of films – I’m quite jealous) about the Halloween opening. He writes:The long take

Universal to Chew Bubblegum and Kick Ass in 'They Live' Remake
Some remake announcements I just shrug off, some I get excited for, and then some just plain get under my skin. While I am a remake enthusiast, there are some films I consider untouchable, and if a studio is going to remake a film all I ask is that it's different. Universal did throw us a pretty damn good remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD, so maybe a remake of John Carpenter's They Live won't be all that bad? Besides, Zack Snyder's Strike Entertainment is getting involved, which can only mean good things (right?).
Razzie Award Nominations - The Worst Movies and Performances of 2008
The 29th Annual Razzie Award Nominations have been released. For those who don’t know, the Razzies cellebrate the worst films and performances of the year. I’m surprised to see the hate for Rambo and Sylvester Stallone, which were nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Actor, Worst On Screen Couple (Sylvester Stallone & His Ego… very funny), Worst Director, Worst Sequel and Worst Career Achievement as a lot of my friends enjoyed that film. I’ve included my personal choices below in bold.
They Live 2!?
John Carpenter’s cult 1988 film is getting the remake treatment from Universal and studio-based Strike Entertainment, which are in negotiations to acquire the film rights with rights holder Les Mougins.
Strike’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman will produce, while Shep Gordon of Les Mougins and Carpenter will serve as executive producers.
The original film, part sci-fi thriller and part social satire, told the story of a down-on-his-luck construction worker (Roddy Piper) who discovers glasses th
WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO: Melody Anderson
Melody Anderson may not have been one of the best known actresses of the 1980’s. However, she was one of the busiest, and certainly one of the most beautiful.Yet, two decades later, she is no longer in the business.Born in Canada, she got her start in TV. There were episodes of WELCOME BACK, KOTTER, LOGAN’S RUN, B.J. AND THE BEAR, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and John Carpenter’s TV movie ELVIS.Her best known role to some was her first feature film, FLASH GORDON. As the female lead, she still has a followi
The Spirit Snubbed At The Razzies??
We posted the Razzies nominations so robotically yesterday we didn't even think of the films that could possibly get snubbed from the Razzies, the award ceremony that honors that most poorly made and insipid films of the year. After all, tracking the worst is pretty easy and the Razzies do a pretty good job each year.A lot of the obvious, usual deserving suspects were nominated, "Speed Racer," "The Love Guru," "The Day The Earth Stood Still," Keanu Reeves, Sylvester Stallone, Tom Cruise ("Valkyrie"), Ashton
Aliens, Criminals, and Other Carpenter Tools
John Carpenter will forever be associated with "Halloween," his brilliantly original (and profitable) 1978 horror film that helped inaugurate the modern slasher era, a movement that now includes more than a half-dozen uninspired "Halloween" sequels. But while horror is what ultimately gave Mr. Carpenter the budgetary and artistic freedom to make the films he wanted to make, his imagination has never been one-dimensional. Beginning Monday, the Brooklyn Academy of Music will launch a brief film...
Terminator Forever!
When Arnold Schwarzenegger's cyborg assassin said his famous one-liner, "I'll be back," what he really meant was that he wasn't going anywhere.
And that couldn't be more true today now that James Cameron's sci-fi masterpiece The Terminator joins a list of 25 classics, among them John Boorman's Deliverance and Richard Brooks' big-screen version of Truman Capote's In Cold Blood, that have been tapped for preservation by the National Film Registry at the Library of Congress.
Robert Wagner recounts the tragic death of his wife Natalie Wood in his autobiography
When Natalie Wood drowned her husband was wreathed in suspicion. Now at 78 he has talked for the first time about that night - and his urge to murder Warren Beatty says William Langley.
The Thing remake is a prequel
We've been seeing that just about every John Carpenter property is hitting the remake chain, and The Thing is no different. We heard way back in September of 2006 that the film was being remade, and people got upset because the Carpenter version is superb, itself a remake.
However even then the talk was that it would be a prequel. Today it's confirmed, and it seems we've even been given the focus of the story. It's a prequel all right, but not too far back in the past from Carpenter's The Thing.
List Time!
IGN's Top Halloween KillsSister Numero UnoMovie:HalloweenVictim: Judith, the first sis to Michael Death by: Butcher knifeKillacious: As probably the best slasher movie of all time, Halloween is fondly remembered by horror fans for its groundbreaking portrait of faceless evil as much as for its increasingly imaginative death scenes. But before director John Carpenter truly immersed himself in the business of bringing the adult Michael Myers to life, he shot an iconic opening scene which changed the face of t
The Thing Sequel To Be A Prequel
Latino Review spoke to Producer Marc Abraham and he revealed that he and John Carpenter are still developing a sequel to “The Thing”. Only it doesn't seem to be a sequel but a prequel.
"This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive. Its going to be taking place in the same time frame” and “These are the events leading up to the 1982 film.”

Robert Wagner reveals affair with Barbara Stanwyck
NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Robert Wagner's long-awaited autobiography "Pieces of My Heart," written with Scott Eyman, is officially in book stores Tuesday. It's a terrific read: classy like Wagner and full of interesting showbiz stories and insights.
During the course of his long-distance movie career, Wagner has worked with a staggering number of iconic headliners -- such names as Spencer Tracy, Audrey Hepburn, Laurence Olivier, John Ford, Sophia Loren, James Cagney, Paul Newman, Fred Astaire,
2008 Razzie Nominating Ballot Calls Into Question Seriousness of Awards
The esteemed membership of the Razzie voting committee received their 2008 nominating ballots in the mail yesterday afternoon — and controversy abounds! While the official list of nominees for the year's worst movies and acting won't be released until January 21, the names on the ballot from which serious-minded voters are expected to choose are laughable at best.Never mind egregious omissions like Seven Pounds, the winner of Vulture's Critics' Poll for 2008's crappiest film, and The Spirit, which las
Pick 2008's Worst Movies
Every year as Golden Globes are shined and Oscars are polished, there is one award that no celebrity is interested in receiving: The Golden Razzie, which goes to the year's worst movies and actors. Actually, I shouldn't say "no celebrity" since in 2005 Halle Berry awesomely ascended the stage to claim her worst actress prize for "Catwoman" - check out this clip of her reflecting on the moment.
Anyhoo, this year's nominees have been released and, per usual, the choices are pretty spot on, although, Reese
