The debate season that has chewed up its moderators comes to a close Wednesday when John McCain and Barack Obama meet for the third time, with CBS News' Bob Schieffer directing the discussion.
The veteran "Face the Nation" host won't telegraph what he will ask. But he said he will be seeking more details about their potential presidencies than have been evident so far.
"By now we've all heard their talking points," he said. "We've heard the general outlines of what they are talking about. The time has come
McCain campaigns for Obama at McCain event?
At this late stage in the election, Republican nominee for President John McCain would undoubtedly prefer not to promote rival Barack Obama at one of his own campaign rallies.
That’s what he had to do yesterday. More than once.
State of the campaign
There’s plenty of criticism that McCain brought this on himself because of his campaign’s tenor over the last two weeks. Then there are others who believe that questions about Obama’s past dealings with questionable characters are l

McCain calls comments by Georgia Democrat ’shocking’
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. John McCain called a statement by a Georgia congressman Saturday, which compared the feeling at recent Republican rallies to those of segregationist George Wallace, "a brazen and baseless attack."
Rep. John Lewis, D-Georgia, and Sen. John McCain traded tough statements Saturday.
Rep. John Lewis, D-Georgia, who has been praised by McCain in the past, issued his statement after several days of headline-grabbing anger aimed at Democratic nominee Barack Obama from some att
John McCain Returns To David Letterman’s Couch
After a flurry in late September over a missed appearance, David Letterman’s temper may finally be soothed. John McCain will make his 13th appearance and his first since announcing his presidency campaign in February on Letterman’s “The Late Show”. The Arizona Senator will take a seat on Letterman’s couch this Thursday, October 16th to make up for his absence on September 24th.
For more political appearances on television, watch out for Sarah Palin’s upcoming cameo on
McCain to Biden: Too early to celebrate
In response to a Joe Biden email telling supporters that the “McCain campaign is on the ropes,” the McCain camp responded that it is too early to celebrate.
“Being an underdog is a role that John McCain relishes and with 26 days left I don’t think Joe Biden should pop the champagne just yet,” said McCain spokesman Ben Porritt. “We are confident that as people make their decisions they will choose John McCain, a maverick with a real record over Barack Obama —an unknown comm

Obama, flush with cash, buys up primetime network TV
Well it looks like Barack Obama can have the stage all to himself after all — and he doesn’t need John McCain to suspend his campaign to do it. The Democratic nominee for President is going the route of Matthew Lesko, Miss Cleo and Richard Simmons. He’s doing an infomercial.
Prime time
The Obama campaign is buying up the equivalent of waterfront property on the airwaves, purchasing 30-minute blocks of prime time on CBS and NBC. Expensive? Very. Although campaigns receive discounte
Obama knocks on doors, surprises voters
Barack Obama jetted back to Ohio today to spend three days preparing for his final debate with John McCain. But before he holed up with his advisers, the candidate began knocking on doors in Holland, Ohio, making his way through a neighborhood of modest ranch and split-level homes.
His move to the Toledo area comes as a new Ohio Newspaper poll puts the race at a dead heat, 48-46 for McCain. That's tightened considerably since the group's September survey had Obama down six points, 48-42.

John McCain to Return to David Letterman
After canceling a David Letterman interview last month, Republican presidential candidate John McCain will appear on "The Late Show" this week.
ET confirms that McCain will sit down with Letterman this Thursday, October 16.
It's anyone's guess how the men will get along, given recent events. Letterman has expressed his displeasure with McCain repeatedly on his show ever since the GOP nominee canceled an appearance on September 24. In ET's recent sitdown with McCain, he jokingly told our M
McCain to go on Letterman Oct. 16
John McCain has successfully negotiated a cessation of hostilities with David Letterman. The presidential candidate is going to have a diplomatic sit down with the late-night leader Oct. 16. McCain being McCain, his camp almost certainly did not schedule this event without Letterman first meeting some preconditions.
This will mark McCain's first Letterman appearance since the Republican National Convention.

I don’t usually chat about politics
But this video really got under my skin. I have not talked about my particular vote in this election or who I believe or don’t believe. I post little random tidbits because quite frankly I feel everyone should be allowed to vote for who they think would do the best job possible.
But then I see a video like this and it really disturbs me. No wonder our Country can not move forward because a lot of people are still living in the past. I feel very strongly that if we don’t learn from the past

McCain Reschedules Letterman; Obama Receives Network Bargain
So let's see if David Letterman will ease up on John McCain now that the Republican presidential candidate is slated to appear Thursday on The Late Show. I think Dave and his writers are right now making plans to further ridicule the guy. Dave's been merciless ever since McCain angered Letterman by cancelling at the last minute September 24th over the economic crisis, claiming that he was heading to Washington DC that second, and then sitting for a NYC interview with Katie Couric instead. Sen. John McCain to visit David Letterman on Thursday
This should be one of the more discussed talk-show appearances: Sen. John McCain will drop by CBS' "Late Show With David Letterman" on Thursday.
It marks the first time McCain has visited "Late Show" since canceling his visit at the last minute Sept. 24. Letterman later fumed that McCain had dropped out to do an interview with CBS' Katie Couric.
"Late Show" airs at 11:35 weeknights on WKMG-Channel 6.

FRANK RICH: MASTER OF THE MOMENT
The NY Times Opinionator writes a devastating piece about the McCain-Palin campaign’s attempts in recent weeks to ”brand [Obama] as a potential killer and an accessory to past attempts at murder.”
“By the time McCain asks the crowd ”Who is the real Barack Obama?” it’s no surprise that someone cries out ”Terrorist!” The rhetorical conflation of Obama with terrorism is complete. It is stoked further by the repeated invocation of Obama’s middle name b
John McCain To Kiss and Make Up With David Letterman
In celebrity feuds that are so three weeks ago, John McCain is scheduled to visit The Late Show with David Letterman on Oct. 16. Again.
McCain ignited Letterman's ire by cancelling an appearance on his show last month, then appearing that same evening on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. Letterman and his fill-in guest, Keith Olbermann, heckled McCain while running video of the Presidential nominee getting made up for his Evening News appearance.
Letterman went on to milk this faux feud for all it w
Gains for Obama among people of faith
A new survey on faith and American politics shows Democratic nominee Barack Obama making inroads among some believers and moving ahead of Republican John McCain among Roman Catholics, largely because of young Catholics’ support.
In the biggest shift over the past four years, Senator Obama now wins the backing of 60 percent of voters who attend religious services once or twice a month, a jump from the 49 percent the Democratic nominee won in 2004.
Senator McCain holds the advantage only among the highly
