NEED TO SEE: NOTORIOUS
I caught the matinee of this today & it was still packed in there so I can imagine how it'll be all weekend. Y'all need to go out & see it.. Dope movie! I don't really wanna talk too much about it because it's the first day & I don't wanna spoil it for anyone but the only thing I can say that I didn't agree with is when Biggie (Gravy aka Jamal Woolard) & Puff (Derek Luke) were rapping, their words were a lil ahead of the beat & I don't no how that got ok'd by the production c

Notorious Reviews
All over the map: "...a luridly unapologetic trip through the violence, hunger, verbal bravado, and money fever of the hip-hop world, which it views as both liberating and destructive (often for the same reasons)." -- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly "A great rapper deserves a great biopic, but B.I.G. fans will have to settle for this merely passable one." -- Nathan Rabin, Onion AV Club "If there's something praiseworthy about Notorious, it's that it pulls off the remarkable, ignominious

Biggie Still Gettin' Folk Shot
Some fool got hisself shot at a screening of the new Biggie Smalls biopic Notorious. Details are sketchy but it appears the victim was a punk-ass bitch or perhaps even a bitch-ass punk. Jamal Woolard, dude who plays Biggie in the movie, was at the theater at the time of the shooting but missed taking any lead. Evidently, the negative vibes Biggie spread throughout his life have yet to entirely disperse.

FILM OF THE WEEK: Ad Lib Night
Trying to stay a hop ahead of the cultural curve, my Friday column has been designated for shiny new releases or retrospectives each week, but considering my best options were a humdrum biopic on Biggie Smalls, a 3-D remake of an '80s slasher flick (don't get me wrong, I'll see this year's Snakes on a Plane , but how commendable could it possibly be?), and a shallow Ozu homage from Germany, I've decided to dip into the GreenCine DVD catalog and pull out a recent-ish, little-seen gem tha
