Obama, McCain: Polls show a true battle

www.swamppolitics.com - 18th Sep 2008

Barack Obama: Forgot those national polls that portray a dead heat in the contest between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain. Polls in some of the most heavily contested states are showing the same thing. CNN and Opinion Research are out with a new poll in five hot states which mirrors what a bipartisan George Washington University Poll of several battleground states showed this week: A race within the margins of error. In Florida: 48 percent of registered voters surveyed favoring Obama, 48 percent McCain. This is a state that backed President Bush in both his elections, albeit by a disputed margin of 537 votes in 2000. The Sept. 14-16 survey of 1,010 voters in Florida suggests the race there has returned to a level playing field, Read full story at www.swamppolitics.com

A Daily Show Addition- Rob Corddry's Wife Is Expecting
Rob Corddry, political correspondent for the Daily Show, isn't just waiting to see the outcome of the election in November. He is expecting changes in his own house. He and his wife are expecting their second daughter in November, and they are letting their two year old name her. Just kidding, could you imagine what she would want to name her? Rob said she is pretty set on either Freeka or Laurie Berkner. At least that's better than what he wanted to name her. He said that they may go wit

Obama mocks McCain’s call to fire SEC chairman
AP - Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama promised new ideas Thursday to calm America’s financial meltdown and help struggling families avoid mortgage foreclosure, saying that "this is not a time for fear, it’s not a time for panic." Obama also heaped criticism and sarcasm on Republican rival John McCain and mocked his promise to fire the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission if elected president. "I think that’s all fine and good but here’s what I think," Obama sa

Is Palin Falling Into the Obama Trap?
It wasn’t long ago that all sorts of voices on the right, not to mention from John McCain’s campaign itself, were shrieking about the media’s disproportionate coverage of the two major presidential candidates. It was an utterly disingenuous ploy. Yes, the press was devoting vastly more ink and air-time to Barack Obama than John McCain, but they were merely feeding the public’s appetite: The guy with the fresh face attracts curiosity, which translates into big audiences and newsstand sales. Some of

Obama and the 40-Year-Old Virgin
Regrettably but predictably, the success of Barack Obama has revived traditional knee-jerk racism on the American far right – and the latest examples are more blatant than latent. In Michigan, right-wing operatives are seeking to aggravate white Democrats by linking Obama to Kwame Kilpatrick, the disgraced mayor of Detroit who leaves office today in a deal with prosecutors that included pleading guilty to two felony charges of obstructing justice. A brief clip of Obama praising Kilpatrick last year, lo

Obama Back On Top
Barack Obama has regained his national lead after a ten day post-convention bounce for John McCain. In the all-important Real Clear Politics average (which averages national polling), Obama has regained a lead of 1.7%. McCain had held as much as a 3% national lead over the last week. At the height of Obama's convention bounce he held a respectable 6% lead. Whether or not McCain's bounce faded naturally, is the result of the continuing horrible economic news, or is because of Obama's freshly

On the Drilling Issue, the Democrats Are Still Losers
All spring and summer gas prices soared and the debate over energy policy played out on the front pages of newspapers across the country, with the Republicans unquestionably getting the better of it. They deserve some credit for their strategic craftiness, but they wouldn’t have been nearly as successful in reducing so complicated an issue to the catchy slogan “Drill, baby, drill!” had it not been for the ample cooperation they received from tone-deaf and incoherent Democrats, who first failed to rec

Obama & McCain on ‘60 Minutes’
‘60 Minutes” is taking the unusual step of devoting its entire broadcast on Sunday to profiles of John McCain and Barack Obama with fresh interviews. Scott Pelley plans to interview McCain in Wisconsin today, at the same time Steve Kroft is interviewing Obama in Nevada. The separate, 20-minute pieces will mix profile material with a snapshot of a moment in the campaign. Typically, “60 Minutes” segments are far shorter with longer lead times. “The beauty of being able to do t

What John McCain and Barack Obama are buying on Google [Politics]
Google is the modern American voter's oracle, able to provide an answer — perhaps not always the correct one, but always an answer — to almost any question. And it's very important to both presidential campaigns that Google show links to their websites as the answers, a privilege for which they're willing to pay. Both the McCain and Obama teams buy sponsored links on the search terms they believe voters are likely to use. Hitwise, a Web research firm, helped us dig up the campaigns' most-used se

McCain Camp: Obama’s Spanish Ads Are Offensive
The McCain camp struck back at the Barack Obama’s ads in their attempt to tie John McCain to comments by conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh. Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) released a statement in behalf of McCain campaign. The statement indicated:”It is offensive and dishonest for Barack Obama to lie about John McCain’s record on immigration and years of support for the Hispanic community when it was Barack Obama himself who voted for ‘poison pill’ amendments t

David Kernell Sarah Palin EMAIL!
What did David Kernell do or not do with Sarah Palin’s email? Democratic Representative Mike Kernell allegedly says that David Kernell is under questioning in Sarah Palin’s email hacking! Mike Kernell allegedly won’t say any further details about David Kernell, the email hack investigation, or David Kernell’s whereabouts. A report tonight claims the following: “State Rep. Mike Kernell, a Memphis Democrat, said his 20-year-old son David is the subject of Internet and blog disc

What Wouldn’t John McCain Do on ‘Saturday Night Live’?
Photo: Courtesy of NBCAt a panel discussion on Monday, Lorne Michaels downplayed the political influence of Saturday Night Live, saying, “The first thing you think about is whether [the sketch] is going to work and that it’s funny. You can’t think about the fate of Western civilization.” But then, the panel — which was held to commemorate the launch of the Museum of the Moving Image’s presidential-campaign-commercials Website The Living Room Candidate, and also featu

Let The People Vote For Obama Because They Like Michelle, It's Fine [News Roundup]
Michelle Obama is so endearingly naive. Today, she told her audience "People shouldn't make a decision this time based on, 'I like that guy' or 'she's cute.' And I'm talking about me." Michelle, at this point, let's just do whatever it takes to get your husband elected, okay? [Huffington Post] Especially since voting machines in 10 swing states are still fucked up. [CNN] And because John McCain is standing behind his remarks about not meeting with the democratically-elected Prime Minister of Spain unless he

McCain: McCain on Spain’s Zapatero gaffe
It is hilarious and typical of potential Presidents who rarely travel outside US and profess knowledge of foreign policy. Read the gaffe on McCain giving the impression that Spain is in Latin America and Zapatero being some leader who does not stand in line with America. Source. Barack Obama Graciously Turns Down Lindsay Lohan's Offer of Support [Politics]
Actress Lindsay Lohan, so politically outspoken these days, recently lobbied some criticism, once again on her MySpace page, against Sarah Palin—the Alaskan warrior poet who, just in the nick of time, stopped a confused John McCain from wandering into a cave full of bears and was named his Vice Presidential running mate as thanks. She said that Palin hates gays ("media-obsessed homophobe!") and that that is bad. And now she wants to join the cause and drum up support for Barack Obama! Trouble is, O

Living Symbol of Extreme Wealth Decries Elitist Black Man [Ven Ikh Bin Rotshild]
Bad news, Obama partisans: a prominent female Hillary supporter has openly defected to John McCain, calling the Democratic candidate "an elitist." That supporter? Lynn Forester de Rothschild. You know, of the Rothschilds. The beloved Real American, salt of the earth banking and finance dynasty. Their very name is synonymous with heartland values like a life of suffocating spiritually empty glamor and excess. So we're sure John McCain is thrilled that he now has the support of Lady de Rothschild. Except, you

Obama to Lohan: shut the f@*#k up
Barack Obama’s camp jumped on society’s bandwagon and announced they don’t want to be associated with Lindsey Lohan. Flame-junk recently went on a rant about her deep rooted hatred for Sarah Palin and John McCain on her MySpace page calling Palin a “media obsessed homophobe”. This would have been considered great free press for Obama except for the fact that nobody likes Lohan, therefore, nobody listens to the white noise that comes out of her mouth. The Chicago Sun-Times repor

Jill Greenberg: I Wasn't Fired, I Left!
The brouhaha over artist Jill Greenberg's unflattering—and in some cases toyed with—photos of John McCain for the Atlantic Monthly rages on today. Yesterday, she was said to have been dropped by her agency, Vaughn Hannigan, a claim Greenberg says is an outright lie. "I left them because they did not support me as an artist," she told Radar this morning. "Rumor has it [agency head] Bill Hannigan is a Republican," Greenberg laughed. And of course, Greenberg's story makes perfect sense; no inte

Barack Obama Turns Down Lindsay Lohan, McCain Says Why
Earlier today the Chicago Sun Times reported that Lindsay Lohan offered to host a series of events to appeal to young voters for Obama and his camp turned her down. Now, the McCain camp is slamming Obama for doing so.  “So let me get this straight,” said Tucker Bounds, a spokesman for the McCain campaign. “They turned away Lindsay Lohan, but Barack Obama has friends like unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers and convicted felon Tony Rezko? Maybe LiLo is just too upstanding for Barack Obama.&

WTF? Ann Coulter Just Had A Baby!
Jesus christ why is everybody sending this terrible picture around? We don’t know the “back story” but it appears that Ann Coulter was just running out for a few cartons of cigarettes and amphetamines when she sort of stumbled on these steps somewhere and had her baby! Tonight's "Presidential Questions" Announced
The CBS Evening News' "Presidential Candidates" series begins tonight, in which Katie Couric asks the same questions to Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama, and the answers air back-to-back. Tonight's questions could get some interesting responses: • "Why do you think there has not been another terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11? And as President, how would you prevent that from happening again?" • "What one personal flaw do you think might hinder your ability to be President of the
