Johnny Depp: The rumored casting of Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin was said to be confirmed by Alfred himself Michael Caine while in Toronto. So is it true? MTV went straight to the source and asked Hoffman himself, he says no. “No one has talked to me about it ever ” never,” replied Hoffman. “It happened, like, five years ago, too. It was a rumor back then and it's still a rumor. [laughs] It's just in the press. It's funny.” If he’s officially offered the role I’m sure he’ll take it gladly, but I repeat, the film hasn’t even been written yet. Him being in it or not is pure speculation. But rumors like this catch the eyes of the movie moguls. Source: IESB.net

Johnny Depp to play The Riddler, again, maybe
Soon after the release of The Dark Knight rumors began spreading that execs were looking at Johnny Depp for The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman for The Penguin. Possibly because people watched Depp play Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and thought, “Hey, Willy Wonka is kind of like The Riddler. So, if Depp can dial down the pedophilic undertones, he’d be perfect. Also, Philip Seymour Hoffman is portly and inadvertently comical, just like The Penguin!” Depp quickly shot

‘Dark Knight’ Update: Philip Seymour Hoffman Responds To Casting Rumor, ‘I Don’t Know If I’d Be A Good Penguin’

Today at the Toronto Film Festival, we went right to the source and asked Hoffman directly if he indeed had been cast as The Penguin. “No one has talked to me about it ever — never,” replied Hoffman. “It happened, like, five years ago, too. Alfred Points to Depp and Hoffman as Riddler and Penguin in ‘Batman 3′
It is without a doubt one of the most hotly contested, debate, and speculated questions in geekdom at the moment: what villains will make their appearance in the third Batman movie, and who will play them. We’ve seen horrible rumors about Cher playing Catwoman. We haven’t even heard from Christopher Nolan as to whether he’ll even return immediately for a third. But we’re still debating it like it’s all cast in stone. But for the first time, there is a semi-legit half-confirmation from Michael Ca

According to MTV Michael Caine has decided to share the villains for the upcoming Dark Knight sequel. With summer winding down and everyone taking stock, now is a good time to reflect on what comes next. The big story of the summer was of course the colossal success of The Dark Knight. But, with success comes possibly insurmountable expectations. Philip Seymour Hoffman on 'Batman' Rumors: Why So Erroneous? [Batty]
In recent weeks, rumors that Philip Seymour Hoffman would play the Penguin in the next Batman installment have become so widespread that even Michael Caine began to repeat them as fact (claiming that he first read of them in a newspaper, then confirmed the rumors with a WB executive). However, if Hoffman is soon to don a monocle and top hat, this is the first he's heard of it (and he's totally going to miss his call time). Speaking to MTV News at the Toronto Film Festival, Hoffman said that much like a pers

No TDK sequel???
HOLY unfinished trilogy—I can reveal that the sequel to this summer’s blockbuster Batman movie The Dark Knight may NEVER be made. Why? Because director Christopher Nolan doesn’t think he can do it without Heath Ledger. After Ledger’s death this year, Aaron Eckhart looked like being the new villain. But he’s let slip Nolan’s having second thoughts. Eckhart said: “Chris hasn’t said he’s going to make a third film. I think he wants to make other movies.” source wtf-ever. I don't believe

Philip Seymour Hoffman Not Interested in Playing The Penguin in Our Batman 3
