Nicole Kidman says filming -Australia' is a dream come true

www.newspostonline.com - 16th Sep 2008

Nicole Kidman: The ‘The Others’ actress has described the flick, directed by Baz Luhrmann, based on her native country Australia as ‘the last of a dying breed’. “They don’t build stuff like this any more,” The Age quoted Kidman, as telling The Sunday Times newspaper in Britain. “To feel that air and see people ravaged by the elements, as hard as it is, it’s exquisite,” she added. Kidman, who is acting alongside Hugh Jackman in the film, plays Lady Sarah Ashley, a British aristocrat who inherits a massive outback station on the eve of World War II. “I dreamt of making a film that had the passion and the weight of the films I grew up watching - Gone with the Wind, Doctor Zhivago, when Baz Read full story at www.newspostonline.com

Can ‘Australia’ Finally Convince Audiences That Hugh Jackman Isn’t Gay?
20th Century Fox sure hopes so! In a story in yesterday's Times, overcompensating executives at the studio hilariously describe Viva Laughlin–toplining, three-time Tony Awards host Hugh Jackman as "rough-hewn" and a "young Clint Eastwood." "There are not many actors who have an ability to pick up a Nicole Kidman, throw her on the bed and ravish her with believability," says Australia director Baz Luhrmann. Additionally: "He is also excellent with a cattle whip." Australia (opening November 26) —

‘Australia’ Delayed
The film was originally set for release on November 14th, but now they’re moving it to November 26th, five days after Harry Potter would have debuted on the 21st, had it not been moved. Without the Potter juggernaut to steal your cash, Australia doesn’t have to worry about trying to get its share before Potter hits theaters. It’ll be easier fending off Bolt and Twilight, which are now opening on the 21st instead.  Makes sense, Potter is such a huge movie, all the others need to scoop up the

"Australia" to Top "Titanic"?
Marcos Oliveira, head of 20th Century Fox in Australia, told the Sydney Morning Herald that he believes the upcoming Australia, starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman and directed by Baz Luhrmann will become “the biggest [film] of all time” in that country. That’s saying a lot, since Titanic came out of that studio, as well. Further fueling my interest in this film is Jackman’s comment at the Australian International Movie Convention. He called his part in the film “the rol

THE PRESSURE IS ON NICOLE
New mom Nicole Kidman was snapped with her George Clooney-lookalike bodyguard going into the Kneehigh Theatre in London for a viewing of Noel Coward’s Brief Encounter on Saturday. Nicole recently wrapped re-shoots of the Baz Luhrmann directed epic Australia which costars Aussie hunk Hugh Jackman and is set for release in mid November. The film will mark the A-list star’s return to the big screen since the birth of baby Sunday Rose. There will definitely be a great deal of scrutiny put on Nico

Paparazzi scrambles for Kidman
Nicole Kidman is usually the centre of attention, but right now there's only one girl the paparazzi care about: her baby daughter, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban. The new mother and baby are due to arrive any day in Sydney, where Kidman is to resume work on her upcoming movie, Baz Luhrmann's romantic epic Australia. The film is due out on November 13, but insiders say Luhrmann is still shooting scenes and polishing the film in a scramble to make the deadline, as well as working on Tourism Australia advertis

Baz Luhrmann on his “crushing ambition”
I’ve already expressed my eagerness for Baz Luhrmann’s “Australia,” probably my single most anticipated film of the year. I was thoroughly enraptured by the trailer that had many others passing snide pre-judgments on the film. (Bizarrely, words like “corny” and “artificial” were frequently thrown up as pejoratives, indicating that the self-irony of Luhrmann’s previous work entirely escaped certain audiences.) Now my appetite has been further whetted by

Keith Urban: Being Mr. Mom Is 'Beautiful'
Diaper duty is no sweat for hands-on new dad Keith Urban, the singer tells CMT Insider. In fact, he says, he relishes his role as full-time dad to 2-month-old Sunday Rose while wife, Nicole Kidman, is filming. "When my wife's working and I've got time off, I'm just Mr. Mom during the day, taking care of the little girl," said Urban, 40, who also called fatherhood "beautiful." The Kidman-Urban family spent time in Australia while Kidman, 40, filmed the Baz Luhrmann epic Australia, and

Hey, Where Is The Australia Push Back Date Outrage?
Harry Potter fans aren't The Only Ones who have to suffer the INCREDIBLE DISREGARD of Hollywood. Now that Warner Bros. has callously pushed Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince back 8 months (let's all kill ourselves), FOX is showing the same kind of epic disdain for Baz Luhrmann fans (or Big Luhrmenn, as they call themselves on message boards). In the upcoming film The Women, a remake of the 1939 George Cukor classic that’s been re-imagined by writer-director Diane English, Meg Ryan’s hair could be billed as a supporting character to its gaggle of stars: Annette Bening, Cloris Leachman, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett Smith, Candice Bergen, Eva Mendes and, of course, Ms. Ryan. When we meet her character, Mary, she’s a kind of superhero suburban mom—stretched violin-string-thin between charitable committees, parenting and grouting her bathroom

Nicole Kidman returns to Australia for Baz Luhrmann
Whichever way you cut it, the land down under is huge. The state of Western Australia alone — the left-hand third — unfolds nonchalantly at 11 times the size of the UK. The difference is, it’s home to a mere 2m people, dwelling largely in southern Perth. Up here, in tiny Kununurram, a thousand miles to the north (the “Top End”, as the locals call it), there’s plenty of legroom. Bar the odd Aboriginal settlement and remote dots like this one, God’s country
