New Flaming Lips Video - "Borderline" (Madonna Cover)
If 2008 was about band reunions, 2009 seems to be the year of high-profile compilations. A new entry into the Dark Was The Night/Heroes mix is the dramatically titled Covered, A Revolution in Sound, meant to celebrate Warner Bros. 50th Anniversary. It's unclear if Michelle Branch handling Joni Mitchell or Adam Sandler doing Neil Young constitutes a revolution in sound, but Flaming Lips' heavily psychedelic and percussive take on "Borderline" is at least fun (thanks for the tip, Joey). Backed by the Drive-By Truckers with Neil Young adding lead guitar, Mr. Jones still jabs terse, unhurried melodies that sound as if he knows the lyrics but would never tell; one called “Native New Yorker” all but begs for words....
