The movie, acquired shortly after its North American debut last month at the Toronto fest, will close the NYFF on October 12th. Meanwhile, Ari Folman's acclaimed animated documentary, "Waltz With Bashir" made its
Marisa Tomei’s Nipple Trouble On “The Wrestler”
Apparently Mickey Rourke wasn’t the only one wrestling on the set of Darren Aronofsky’s new film; Marisa Tomei wrestled with her fake nipple piercings for much of the shoot, according to WENN. Tomei plays a tattooed and pierced stripper in The Wrestler and director Aronofsky told the New York Daily News that the fake piercings were a real pain - because they took so long to attach: “The hardest part was fitting the fake nipple piercings on her. You’d be surprised at how long that too
Ten Things You Need to Know About ‘The Wrestler’
Photo: Courtesy of Fox SearchlightThe first wave of stories about Mickey Rourke in Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler, which closes the New York film Festival in two weeks, mostly ask: "What in the hell happened to Mickey’s face?" But once everyone sees the movie — which is like The Champ if Jon Voight listened to Motley Crue, had his own action figure, and occasionally let another man in tights shoot him in the chest with a staple gun (it is to the movie’s endless credit that this

"If I knew it was going to take me 15 years to get back in the saddle and work again because of the way I handled things, I really would have handled things differently... Change, for me, didn't come easily. I didn't want to change, until I lost everything." Mickey Rourke's role as faded professional wrestler Randy "The Ram" Robinson in "The Wrestler" is rightly being hailed the comeback, and one of the best performances, of the year. At the film's U.S. premiere at the New York Film Festival, he, co-star Ma

Oscar Watch: Five Films (Four of Them Unseen) Lead 'TDK' for Best Pic
Take this with a barrel of salt. Mickey Rourke is far out in front in the Best Actor race for "The Wrestler'' as Movie City News' Gurus o'Gold (including yours truly) weigh in with their first predictions of the season. The fact is that fewer Oscar contenders than usual were unveiled at Toronto this year than in the recent past, so pretty much we're guessing based on past performances. In the Best Picture race, for instance, Ron Howard's unseen "Nixon/Frost'' is slightly ahead of Gus Van Sant's "Milk,'' whi

Dispatches From The New York Film Festival: The Wrestler
Ever since Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and inspired one of those famed late-night bidding wars in Toronto , everyone has been all aflutter to see the film. The Wrestler Press Conference, NYFF 2008
I’ve been sitting here for two hours trying to figure out how to shoehorn press conference quotes into a review of The Wrestler, the NYFF closing night film which screened for the press this morning. But Stu at Defamer already beat me to posting the money quotes from star Mickey Rourke. Here’s the part that I planned to use to great dramatic effect, which Rourke spat out in response to the last question of the session, all the while gesticulating with what appeared to be a half-smoked, unlit cig
They're Remaking 'Angel Heart'?
I'm starting to think I'm the only one out there who still follows the old maxim: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But, it's downright silly of me to think that a movie producer would ever miss the chance to earn a few bucks on a remake. Variety reports that Michael De Luca has partnered with Alison Rosenzweig and Michael Gaeta on a remake of Alan Parker's (Evita) 1987 horror-suspense flick, Angel Heart.
Angel Heart originally starred Mickey Rourke as a seedy private investigator hired to locate a nightcl

Michael De Luca, Alison Rosenzweig and Michael Gaeta bought the rights to the Bayou-set, voodoo-oriented flick that originally starred Mickey Rourke and featured Lisa Bonet covered in chicken blood.
The original flick is pretty awesome, but dated, and while we usually aren't in favor of remakes, this one could be awesome. It's way too early in the process to talk about directors, stars or release dates, but we'l
