Mission accomplished! Will Ferrell is stupid good as former president George W. Bush on Broadway
New York Daily News - 6th Feb 2009
Will Ferrell: Who would have guessed that old Mr. Unpopularity,
George W. Bush, would be packing them in on Broadway?
Then again, it's got next to nada to do with Dubya and everything to do with the actor playing him,
Will Ferrell, who's been spoofing the President since his days at "Saturday Night Live."
Getting to see this comic whiz in the flesh is a big treat, and the fact that
Ferrell has been able to squeeze so many fresh yuks from the beleaguered
Bush legacy speaks to his always off-kilter, sometimes raunchy, imagination.
He's used it to turn "You're Welcome America. A Final Night with
George Bush," which opens tonight, into a 90-minute laugh ride and one seriously hot ticket.
The show picks up after the 43rd President has lifted off from the White House lawn. Director Adam McKay ("Step Brothers") and
Ferrell fashion that into a brilliant entrance for Dubya, who recalls his life at Yale, Crawford, Tex., and in the Oval Office.
The stage is mostly bare, with just a few props and video screens where images of places, faces and ruder body parts help set the scene. If some sequences run out of steam, another laugh is looming just around the bend.
Ferrell has Dubya down pat - the stance, butthead chuckle, constant squint and tumbleweed twang, which sparks one of the show's best jokes.
He's a strapping guy with a big expressive face made for the stage. One minute, he looks presidential and handsome. The next, like a doofus. Then he seems sorta sleazy. His chameleon-like magic is what's made
Ferrell so funny in so many comedies, whether it's "Old School" or "Elf."
Dubya doesn't go it alone in "You're Welcome America," which
Will also air on HBO on March 14. Michael Delaney and Adam Mucci appear briefly as a pilot and a doctor. Patrick
Ferrell (ring a bell?) has more stage time as a surly Secret Service agent who boogies between scenes.
And when Pia Glenn shows up as shimmying she-devil Condoleezza Rice, she turns a bite-sized cameo into something deliriously delicious.
Some of the best surprises come from spontaneous or near-spontaneous moments when
Ferrell interacts with the audience. Unlike Dubya,
Ferrell is lightning fast on his feet and turns each ad lib into a burst of hilarity, a mission accomplished, if you
Will.

Will Ferrell relives 8 years of George W. Bush on Broadway stage
misadventures of the previous presidential administration?
You can relive those eight years - and more - in "You're Welcome America. A Final Night With George W. Bush," Will Ferrell's merciless and often blisteringly funny raunch roast of the former chief executive who left the Oval Office less than three weeks ago.
Ferrell wrote and stars as Bush in this 90-minute satiric biography, which opened Thursday at the Cort Theatre. The actor, a former "Saturday Night Live" regular and now a~cut~full-fledged
You're Welcome America. A Final Night With George W. Bush | Stage Review
Will Ferrell has made his career playing cocky boobs who aren't nearly as smart as they think they are. And in the actor's mind, George W. Bush is nothing but Talladega Nights ' Ricky Bobby with a red phone. For nearly 90 minutes in You're Welcome America. A Final Night With George W. Bush , Ferrell, as Bush, squints and struts his way through a monologue reflecting on the former president's early life and White House years. The (mostly) one-man show is crude, often
hilarious

Everyone's favorite shaved bear of comedy, Will Ferrell, was good enough to brave the wastelands of the Internet to answer questions from the legions of anonymous hellions who lurk in the comments section of movie websites. As usual, they were very, very interested in male genitalia.

Penis Photo Causes Walkouts At Will Ferrell's Bush Broadway
So far six audience members have stormed out midperformance of the Broadway show "You're Welcome America. A Final Night with George W Bush," the comedian Will Ferrell's lampooning of the 43rd president, according to those keeping count at the Cort Theater. But they haven't been leaving after a particular Ferrell quip.
To Ferrell and 'You're Welcome America': Thanks for nothing
It's tough to say who should be more offended by You're Welcome America: A Final Night With George W. Bush (?½ out of four): the 43rd president's most ardent admirers or his most rigorous critics.
The latter group is apt to suffer the most for the witless, pointless spectacle that opened Thursday at the Cort Theatre, courtesy of writer and star Will Ferrell. Ferrell, of course, lampooned Bush on Saturday Night Live before launching a successful film career.
Here he revisits the...

Will Ferrell Promises No More Sports Movies
At a charity golf tournament over the weekend, Will Ferrell really gave his fans something to cheer about: he’s done making half-assed sports movies. Or any sports movies for that matter. Ferrell told the AP, “I Will no longer attempt to do any sports movie, anymore. Any sports.”
At this point, I imagine an out of breath studio head ran up to him screaming, “Will, are you crazy? You’re at a golf tournament, you’re all dressed up to play golf, and it just looks so funny,

It’s easy to find your mood plummeting, your motivation waning, and your usually chipper self turning into a snappy betch.
