Polished crooks shine in Guy Ritchie's 'RocknRolla'
In " RocknRolla," director Guy Ritchie masters the art of making thugs funny. Not by rendering them dumb as rocks, but by giving them the golden, ironic touch of class and highbrow tastes.
At the center of the story is a jack-of-all-illegal-trades shyster named Lenny Cole (Tom Wilkinson), who deals largely in real estate -- namely bribing a local politician to grandfather in stadiums and buildings, pocketing millions from developers.
Cole is the consummate old-school, two-timing crook, wheeling and de
Guy Ritchie rolls out 'RocknRolla'
Just as Steven Soderbergh's "Ocean's Eleven" and its sequels seem distinctly American, reflecting the glitz and ersatz class of Las Vegas, so Guy Ritchie's crime capers feel distinctly British. His latest, " RocknRolla," set in the greasy streets and smoky pubs of London, lacks the glamour of George Clooney and Brad Pitt, but it compensates with plenty of rough humor, bruising action and a wicked dark streak.
Gerard Butler, of "300," trades his Shakespearean eloquence for blokish slang as One Two, a sma
Review: ‘RockNRolla’ Returns Guy Ritchie to Form
From the visually arresting opening credits, Guy Ritchie's RockNRolla pulls the audience into its crazy fictional London which is inhabited by gangsters, a superstitious Russian investor, drug addicted rockers and a gang that can't quit shoot straight or put a car into reverse.
The plot is a labyrinth that brings divergent ...
Review: “RocknRolla”
Years ago, Guy Ritchie used to make corkscrewy cockney capers like “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch.” Then something seems to have distracted him.
Today, he’s once again a rude boy in top form as he was a decade ago, letting thrash again with the bloodily entertaining and well-titled “RocknRolla,” which is a sharp comedy as well as a punk-pulp spree. Don’t go if you can’t handle Brit slang. (”Grass” = informer.)
As in his t

Guy Ritchie's 'Rocknrolla' is lock, stock & an empty barrel
If you were Guy Ritchie, and you were coming off two massive failures in the form of "Swept Away" and "Revolver," you'd want to dazzle your audience on the next go-round, right? Offer them something they'd never seen before, show them you're still the vital talent who surprised moviegoers with "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" a decade ago.
Or, you know, you could give them a retread of your past successes, one that's not half as fresh but still has just enough of the old "Lock, Stock" swagger to prove
Madonna’s Legs of Steel
Madonna has some killer legs. Fabulous at 50. We imagine she has been building those muscles up by keeping them locked shut for soon to be ex, Guy Ritchie. Damn nutcracker!
We would kill for those legs at her age… or even now!
'RocknRolla': Mobbed Up, By Kurt Loder
"RocknRolla" proves that Guy Ritchie has been married to the mob for far too long, Kurt Loder says.
We Take It All Back…
And what do you know, after professing our secret love for Ms Hilton just 24 hours have passed and she’s kind of, sort of, already annoying us again. See we told you we were fickle.
Last night we caught up with the heiress leaving The Sanderson Hotel and her first port of call was Guy Ritchie and Madonna’s watering hole The Punchbowl followed by a trip to Whiskey Mist (where Will.I.Am from Black Eyed Peas was also enjoying a night on the town).
Paris is currently in the Capital on the hunt for a new B

Review: RockNRolla
You'd think that being married to Madonna, Guy Ritchie would have picked up on the value of occasionally reinventing oneself. But no, he keeps making the same movie, the same ultra-cool exercises in British gangster violence and stylish criminal shenanigans, and RockNRolla is the latest entry. Then again, the one time he did try something different, the result was Swept Away, so maybe he's wise to stay in his comfort zone.
At any rate, RockNRolla inspires strong feelings of "meh" in me. It's not nearly as
Toronto Interview: RocknRolla's Mastermind Guy Ritchie
It may have been a few months back that I screened RocknRolla, but I definitely haven't forgotten it. It's one of my favorite films of the past few months and that's all thanks to Guy Ritchie - the mastermind writer and director behind such previous cult classics as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. After the film premiered up in Toronto, I was lucky enough to catch up with Guy Ritchie for a chat about making movies, RocknRolla, Sherlock Holmes, and even Beowulf. Even if you're not that intere
Review: ROCKNROLLA
Failed attempt by Guy Ritchie to regain his edge.
RocknRolla.
"Guy Ritchie reshuffles a worn-out deck in RocknRolla, a return to the shady stylings that characterized his earlier flicks Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch," writes Manohla Dargis in the New York Times. "The on-screen names have changed, and the edited rhythms have been somewhat slowed, but more or less everything else follows formula: pump up the volume, tilt the camera, flex the muscle, strut the stuff, bang bang, blah blah."
"Alas, Guy Ritchie seems to have lost even what little touch
There's humour in Ritchie's RocknRolla retread
During his Madonna years of artistic penury, Guy Ritchie has come to resemble none other than Brad Pitt's mumbling scrapper Mickey O'Neil from Snatch (2000), Ritchie's last clever film.
The more Ritchie has flailed away at dross like Swept Away and Revolver, the two movies that nearly sunk his career, the more unintelligible and irrelevant he has become. Can this really be the Guy whom people use to call the next Tarantino?
But we must remember that Mickey was one of the funniest things about Snatch, even i
The Performance: Mark Strong in 'Body of Lies'

Spy Photos: Downey Jr. as SHERLOCK HOLMES and Kingsley in PRINCE OF PERSIA
I just wanna inform you that I will be flying to many, many states across the country these next few weeks but I’ll try my best to keep you up-to-date. Right now, as I’m typing this, I’m making a list of what I need to pack into a new, medium-sized luggage I just bought some hours ago. I love flying, I just don’t like prepping for it. Anyways, Justjared has a bunch of spy photos of Robert Downey Jr. as SHERLOCK HOLMES in the new movie, directed by Guy Ritchie, which is going to prese

Opening this Weekend: RocknRolla, Murray Magic, The Express
Want to avert your eyes from the stock market? Hollywood has six new releases out this weekend to numb our collective pain. Phew! The big one is Ridley Scott's actioner, Body of Lies, staring Russell Crowe (looking suspiciously like the late J.T. Walsh) and Leonardo DiCaprio (looking suspiciously like Robert De Niro in Heat). In these quarters, the buzz on Lies hasn't been kind and despite a relentless advertising push, the public doesn't seem that jacked to see it. Or maybe it's just us. Anyway, here's a h
