Election Day: It's the first November of 2009, which means it's time to pull that lever, touch that screen or figure out whatever newfangled contraption your district has provided: today is Election Day, so cast that vote! I put that exclamation point in there not because I'm excited to vote in New York's mayoral Election, but because Election Day gets me thinking about what a rich topic Elections have been for cinema. Combining intrigue, corruption, passion and the odd sex scandal, politics in general and... Read full story at MTV Movies Blog

Once more into the election rodeo
The post-Election Day glow means a bit of reflection for both winners and losers. But for Kinky Friedman, it’s a Day to look forward. One year from today, he might be the newly elected Governor of Texas — or an also-ran. He still has to capture the Democratic nomination, and his chances to do that and win, as he sees it, are both “excellent.” “I think I’m the only man of the people that’s in the race,” Friedman told POLITICO in a podcast...

Analysis: Anger, frustration fuel Election Day 2009
Washington (CNN) -- As voters across the country head to the polls Tuesday, one thing appears certain: Many of them are angry. And that anger could shape the results of three of the most high-profile Elections this year -- gubernatorial battles in New Jersey and Virginia and the fight for an open seat in New York's 23rd Congressional District . National polls indicate that many voters are in a foul mood. The big question is whether that mood will continue into 2010, when the entire House of...

Low turnout in municipal election
The long lines of students waiting to vote on Election Day last year were nowhere to be seen during yesterday's municipal Election. Voter turnout for Penn students in this off-year Election was very low, according to polling officials. “A lot of the people were having trouble because of the strike,” said Sarah Roberts, Republican committeewoman for Division 5. She also attributed the low student turnout to the scheduling of midterms this week. College senior Annassa Corley, president of...

ALBANY, N.Y. — Democrat Bill Owens had an early lead of 51.5 percent in a special Congressional election in northern New York that grabbed national headlines in its final days as it highlighted divisions within the Republican Party. Owens led with 51.4 percent to Conservative Doug Hoffman's 43.7 percent with just 29 percent of precincts reporting in New York's 23rd House district. Republican Dierdre Scozzafava (skoh-zuh-FAH'-vuh), who withdrew from the race Saturday, still picked up 4.9...

Cheers and Jeers: Election Day '09
From the GREAT STATE OF MAINE... Just Another Tuesday [ Yawn ] Oh yeah, that's right...it's Election Day! I should've known by the 200,000 people standing in my living room holding ballots and magic markers, trying to decide if my being---soul, id, ego, spirit, whatever you wanna call it---is "equal enough" to deserve entry into the world of civil marriage. They're checkin' my teeth, smellin' my pits, making me turn my head and cough, and asking me if I recite the Red Sox Loyalty Oath every...

Jon Corzine is in a tight race to keep power in Trenton while Republican Bob McDonnell is a strong favorite to end two terms of Democratic Party stay in the Virginia Executive Mansion. There is a House of Representatives' seat up for grabs in New York....

Independents' Day: GOP has high expectations, but indie energy may rule
--> ABC News' Rick Klein reports: In the push-pull between Democrats and Republicans, it's a Day for none of the above. On an Election Day that will provide limited data -- and that the GOP looks likely to celebrate, while Democrats tell us to look elsewhere -- there's a surfeit of evidence that independents are the powerbrokers of American politics. A third-party candidate may win a congressional seat in upstate New York. Another might swing a Governor's race in New Jersey....

Clout: In Philly, you scratch my back, or I'll scratch you off the ballot: PHOTO
IT MAY HAVE been a slow Election Day in Philadelphia yesterday, but there still were a couple of dirty dealings out in the streets. And Republican controller candidate Al Schmidt learned that in this town, you can't trust anybody. Not even your own party. In at least two divisions in the 31st Ward - in the lower Northeast - Republican committee people were handing out sample ballots with Schmidt's name crossed off. Could this cut have anything to do with Schmidt's tense relationship with the...
