Simon Pegg: Starring: Simon Pegg, Kirsten Dunst, Megan Fox, Jeff Bridges Director: Robert B. Weide Release Date: October 3, 2008 Running Time: 110 min MPAA Rating: R Distributor: MGM - - - How to Lose Friends Alienate People reminds me of a dog I had when I was a kid. It was this huge Great Dane that would lumber around and trip all over himself and destroy anything in the process. Anyone who saw him for the first time would be scared to death of him, but he was dumb as a bag of hammers and just a harmless. That’s pretty much where the comparison stops because I loved that dog and still have fond memories of him. On the other hand, I saw the movie late last night and can barely remember it enough to write this review.

How to Lose Friends and Alienate People: Not Alienating, Just Not That Funny
It’s hard to care too much about someone as obnoxious as Sidney Young, the main character of How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, played by Simon Pegg. Having a main character as unlikable as Sidney is one of the key things that doesn't work in it. There are some things that do work — a few funny bits, some great comedic performances — but they don't quite make up for the experience of watching the movie as a whole, which ends up being just kinda "meh." The character of Sidney Young is based on

How to Lose Friends and Alienate People
Review in a Hurry: A sarcastic, iconoclastic, English celebrity news muckraker (Simon Pegg) gets a job at a prestigious New York fashion magazine and is stunned to discover that being a mouthy jerk doesn’t quite cut it with U.S. celebrity publicists. Because this is a movie, he also manages to catch the eyes of both Kirsten Dunst and Megan Fox. The Bigger Picture: Loosely based on the real-life experiences of British journalist Toby Young and his clumsy attempt to fit in on staff at Vanity Fair, Robe

Review: “How to Lose Friends & Alienate People”
Cast: Kirsten Dunst, Simon Pegg, Jeff Bridges, Danny Huston, Gillian Anderson Facts of interest: Inspired by the book by Toby Young. The plot: A British journalist (Pegg) discovers a way into the world of celebrities when he's offered a job at a prestigious New York magazine. Our thoughts: “How to Lose Friends & Alienate People” marks Simon Pegg’s latest effort in a lead role, and while the British comedian puts on a decent enough show, everything around him falls to pieces early on. Movie Review - 'How to Lose Friends and Alienate People'
How to Lose Friends and Alienate People Starring Simon Pegg, Kirsten Dunst, Jeff Bridges, and Megan Fox Directed by Robert B. Weide Rated R Toby Young has led an interesting life, and one chapter of it became the memoir How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. The book chronicled the British journalist’s failed attempt to become a successful Vanity Fair writer. Unfortunately, Young’s experiences - at least as portrayed in the movie version of his book - are just like The Devil Wears Pra

Upscale Chihuahuas and downtown drama at the multiplex. Movies? This weekend? What's playing aside from the Chihuahua from Beverly Hills? 'Cause that's topping your list of must-sees, for sure. Nick and Norah, two crazy, Urban Outfitters-clad peeps hit up the indie rock scene and possibly, maybe, if the late-night quasi-date goes right, each other in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. Simon Pegg plays a British writer invading a big-time New York magazine in Robert B. Weide's new comedy "How to Lose Friends & Alienate People," which also stars Gillian Anderson, Thandie Newton, Jeff Bridges, Kirsten Dunst and Megan Fox. That's quite a cast! But is the film funny enough? And how is Pegg doing in the lead role? Let's find out: • Brad Brevet at RopeOfSilicon: "It all boils down into a hodgepodge of scenes that seem to be thrown together in singular attempts to capture an audience's att

Review: How to Lose Friends & Alienate People
Entertainment journalists are very often the last line of defense between movies/movie stars and the general public. We work for the public and are available to disentangle cinematic takes on baseball, superheroes, various wars, Elizabethan times, romantic conquests, car chases, or what have you. But when the material is more or less about us, it's much harder to find some perspective. Based on a memoir by British journalist Toby Young, the very funny new film How to Lose Friends & Alienate People is to

Review: How to Lose Friends May Alienate a Few People
"I continue to admire Pegg's comic abilities, and he seems to have given it his earnest best here. But he's just not right for the part - and the story fizzles out halfway." Simon Pegg, the British actor who wrote and starred in the fiendishly clever Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, should not have been cast as the lead in How to Lose Friends & Alienate People. The character -- a journalist named Sidney Young who comes to America to break into the magazine business -- does…

Cross your fingers that Hollywood eventually gets to Field & Stream. How to Lose Friends and Alienate People Review
Toby Young is a scrappy British journalist who landed a dream job at the celebrity-obsessed Vanity Fair magazine in the late 90s. He moved to New York City, eager to make his mark in America, and proceeded to piss off just about every important person in town. Six months later, he was back in England. The story might have ended there, except that Young went ahead and wrote a book about his experiences, a hilarious book that got rave reviews and catapulted him to fame. Now that book, How to Lose Friends and

Movie Review: How To Lose Friends And Alientae People
Over the years the cinema has given us plenty of bumbling idiots on the big screen but arguably none are ever as likeable as the ones played by Simon Pegg. Returning this week in How to Lose Friends And Alienate People, Pegg, riding high on his popularity, plays the pretentious tit Sidney Young who manages to get a job at a prestigious New York magazine. It’s like The Devil Wears Prada but with transvestites! With a recent surge of great comedies, this effort is disappointingly neither consistently hil

There’s a ton of stuff opening this weekend, so be sure to read a few reviews and choose wisely! This Brit-on-the-make comedy would be insufferable without the leavening presence of Simon Pegg.

'How to Lose Friends' alienates its audience
Right around the point horn-dog magazine writer Sidney Young (Simon Pegg) is frantically scouring a fancy garden party for cocaine so he can take advantage of the dim-bulb starlet (Megan Fox) he's been fervently stalking, the putrid showbiz comedy "How to Lose Friends & Alienate People" appears to hit DEFCON 5 in mistaking its brand of moral laxity for cutesy irreverence. When Sidney's scheme is thwarted by the screenplay's need to have him do the right thing and safely drive home his drunk, depressed an
