Michael Cera: First up from my fairly random selection of films screened at this year's London film festival is Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. Could this be the first film of its kind “ a Michael Cera vehicle? The Arrested Development and Superbad star reprises his role as a nerdy teenager in this by-the-numbers rom-com which, at best, plays as a watered-down Juno. Entirely predictable, though amiable enough, the movie follows one night in the lives of two American highschoolers (ably played by Cera and Kat Dennings) brought together by a shared love of painfully trendy indie music, as they search for an elusive mystery gig somewhere in New York.

Review: “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist”
Based on the novel by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. The plot: Nick (Cera) and Norah (Dennings) spend an incredible chaotic but eventually magical night in New York City. Our thoughts: Peter Sollett’s “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” has enough rhythm to maintain the audience’s attention for 90 minutes, but the film definitely lacks the surprise factor we’ve come to appreciate in this new genre of teenage comedies. It’s a shame, really, because the movie holds plenty of unexploited po

Are Nick & Norah Fans Really Flocking to Veselka?
Every NYC movie/tv show can create a new pop culture landmark and tourist destination. Serious Eats points out that When Harry Met Sally had Katz's and Sex and the City had Magnolia, and now Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist has staked a claim on Veselka. Owner Tom Birchard told SE that they were "slammed all weekend" with folks allegedly wanting to recreate the scene where Michael Cera and Kat Dennings enjoy some pierogies at the 24-hour eatery (the address is even given in the dialogue). No word on if Arle

The Music of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Perhaps I'm stating the obvious, but the best soundtracks always take on the character of the movie they accompany, and vice versa, and that's certainly the case with Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. The film, which follows the bridge-and-tunnel protagonists Nick (Michael Cera) and Norah (Kat Dennings) on a night of hijinks through the streets of Brooklyn and Manhattan, is packed full of blink-and-you-miss-it hipster cameos from current faves Andy Samberg, Seth Myers, John Cho and Kevin Corrigan. New York. Music. Stories.
1. Have you seen Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist yet? I love this movie so hard. Anyone who likes music and spotting New York City landmarks will enjoy this film. Oh and Michael Cera and Kat Dennings are great great, as are blond guy from Spring Awakening, and Ari Graynor who plays the most convincing drunk girl I’ve seen in a long time. Oh and some cameos from Devendra Banhart, Bishop Allen, Project Jenny Project Jan, etc etc. Whoever did the location scouting on this movie got it RIGHT. B

Fall Box Office Continues to Explode…Top 3 Films $60 Million in Grosses… Chi-WOW-hua #1 again…Tops $50 Million sales in Two Weeks…
Oct. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Walt Disney Co.'s comedy ``Beverly Hills Chihuahua'' repeated as the top film in U.S. and Canadian theaters for a second weekend, earning $17.5 million and beating out the debuts of a horror film and spy drama. ``Quarantine'' from Sony Corp.'s Screen Gem's unit was second with $14.2 million, box-office tracker Media By Numbers LLC said. Time Warner Inc.'s ``Body of Lies'' earned $13.1 million to take third place. ``Chihuahua'' pushed Disney's Buena Vista studio earnings this year

Nick & Norah's Realistic Portrayal Of Teen Sex [Finger On The Pulse]
Prescient soothsayer Richard Lawson over at Gawker was totally right in his irrational hatred of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist: it is a quarterlifer's false idealization of his or her generic suburban teenhood. However, having seen the movie I need to defend one instance where Nick and Norah becomes a completely realistic portrayal of New Jersey-bred nerds. When Nick and Norah finally consummate their movie-long sexual tension, their hookup is exactly the the way two indie rock obsessed 17-year-olds wo

‘Beverly Hills Chihuahua’ leads Friday b.o.

Last week’s champ “Eagle Eye” slipped to second place but still went strong, pulling in $5.5 million. D.J Caruso’s Shia LaBeouf action vehicle reached a domestic total of $42.4 million. Debuting in third place with $4.4 million was Peter Sollett’s “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” a romance in which Michael Cera and

Dr. Venkman Reviews: Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist
You know what? You may not believe me when I say this, but this is one of my favorite movies of the year. Not only one of my favorite but one of the best made. As much as I liked Juno, I liked ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ even more. You may think I’m nuts for saying that, but I was able to connect with the characters and story in this film better. I honestly remember having nights like the one these characters had. Pulling all nighters not knowing where the night will take you.

New Mix-Tapes Inspired By ‘Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist,’ PLUS: Why Michael Cera Totally Wants To Run Away With Us
Like every other gal with a pulse, we’ve had a thing for Michael Cera (pictured above with his costar, Whatsherface) ever since we caught our first glimpse of his pale, Canadian bodice and thin, hawk-like proboscis on Arrested Development. And after watching Cera perfect the role of Awkward/Sensitive Guy Friend in Superbad and Juno respectively, our admiration has grown steadily, evolving from an innocent schoolgirl crush to a dangerous, psycho-stalker level obsession. (Think “Stage 5 Clinger

Remember Mystery, from VH1's The Pick Up ... [The Pick Up Artist]
Remember Mystery, from VH1's The Pick Up Artist? We got an awesome email from a male reader who was out in LA last night with his two female roommates. He went to go to the bathroom and when he returned, Mystery was hitting on the two girls, and trying to perform magic tricks that reminded our reader more of Gob from Arrested Development, than of a professional Casanova. He confronted Mystery on his trademark "neg" strategy, in which he tries to insult women to lure them in. Mystery denied that, and then aw

`Superbad' star Cera proves nice guys finish first (AP)
AP - Michael Cera always seems to be pining for something: booze and a popular classmate in "Superbad"; the sly soul mate he impregnated in "Juno"; a lovely but forbidden cousin in TV's "Arrested Development."

The Earnest Fumbling Manchildren Of Film Make Crappy Boyfriends [Nick And Norah's Failed Relationship]
Hollywood Elsewhere's resident crank Jeffery Wells wondered earlier this week if Michael Cera's career is on the wane, in part because he plays the same role over and over again. While I'm excited to see Cera in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist when it hits theaters Friday, I have to concur that he is playing the same hypersensitive, passive, awkward semi-loser that he portrayed in Superbad, Juno and Arrested Development. And furthermore, this character, whom I'll term the Earnest Fumbling Manchild, is no

Lindsay Lohan’s happy movies
She wrote on her MySpace blog: “The other night I went to see ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ and it was so cute. I think the entire cast is so much fun to watch, and the storyline is great. “Seeing movies like this is such a good feeling. It also shows you how important movies are in life - you can be in a horrible mood, and most of the time a movie that makes you laugh and enjoy life can change your mood by the time you walk out of the theatre.” As well as enjoyi

G.W.E.E.! Michael “Super Adorable” Cera
(In our second stab at our weekly installment of G.W.W.E [Guys We Want to Eff], we decided to take on the almost inappropriately young looking, but totally adorable, Michael Cera. If you were one of the few who watched, you will remember him at George Michael on Arrested Development. Or you may have fallen in love with him and his short shorts as quirky Pauli Bleeker in Juno. Whatever. You should totally know who he is, and even if you don’t one look at him and you will totally understand why he is

Lindsay Lohan: Movies Help Me Enjoy Life
She's an actress, a singer, and half of the most talked about couple in Hollywood. Now Lindsay Lohan can add a new item to her resume: movie reviewer. The budding Ebert had special praise for the films stars. "I'm a big fan of Kat Dennings and Michael Cera," she writes. "It would be nic

Lindsay's Movies Aren't the Only Ones She Wants You to See
Lindsay Lohan spent a rare day away from Samantha Ronson to run errands and shop in LA yesterday. She and her favorite girl have had plenty of fun lately from trips to Cabo and Disneyland to party planning, but Lindsay appreciates their low-key movie nights too. Yesterday she blogged about loving Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and encourages everyone to see it and enjoy Michael Cera, Kat Dennings and the soundtrack. If you don't want to trust LL, Buzz is also a fan of the film. Lots more of Lind

Hold Onto Your Vodka Martini: '90210' Creators Demote Lucille Bluth [BluthWatch 08]
The Beverly Hills, 90210 franchise has historically not been kind to the elder relatives of its nubile teens, which is why we were a little confused when producers of the new 90210 reboot announced that they'd be casting not just parents but a grandmother. Would there really be room on the show for a regular over sixty, we wondered? Then, they hired Jessica Walter for the role and announced she'd essentially be reprising her Lucille Bluth character from Arrested Development, and suddenly all the Shannens an

The Week in DVR: Dirty Sexy Money Take Two, Coen Brothers' Best, Midnight Run
Monday: Midnight Run Of all the actors that have starred opposite Robert De Niro—from Al Pacino to Phillip Seymour Hoffman—no one brought out the best in him the way Charles Grodin did in Midnight Run. Crazy, we know. But true! Spurred on by the neurotic Mr. Grodin, Mr. De Niro is at the top of his game, funny without being corny, self-deprecating without winking and, most important, committed to the material and not just going for a paycheck. Review: 'Nick & Norah' A Small Romantic Gem
Someday, Michael Cera will show us what else he can do. He surely must have someone else inside of him besides the poignantly verbal but sweetly awkward nerd we've come to know and love in movies such as "Superbad" and "Juno" and the late, great TV series "Arrested Development." He seems too smart, too substantial, to be just a one-trick pony; then again, maybe it's easy to want good things from him because we like the person we've gotten to know so far. For now, in "Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist,"

Why Won't Cera Even Acknowledge the Idea of an 'Arrested Development' Movie?
A couple months back, Jason Bateman appeared on Countdown with Keith Olbermann and not-so-subtly plugged the idea for a movie version of his sort of recently canceled show, Arrested Development. Like 30 Rock, It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia, and all good things on TV right now, AD was a genius program that still managed to tank in the ratings despite a rabid cult following. But while the rumor mill quickly churned all over the blogosphere (much of it Olbermann's fault, he's on top of the s

Will Sarah Palin make 30 Rock a success ... finally?
Filed under: OpEd, Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Ratings, Reality-Free30 Rock has been the little show that could for two years. Like Arrested Develoment a few years back, it has a rabid fan following and the critics just adore it. Unfortunately, it also has the same problem that plagued AD: low ratings. While those numbers did tick up during last year's strike-shortened season, the show still only averaged 6.4 million viewers, good enough for 94th place among all shows. It's also proven it does well with
