Insiders Hate Seinfeld's Microsoft Ad, But That Doesn't Matter

Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Gates & the New Microsoft Ad…Really?!
Microsoft finally revealed it’s new commercial featuring funny-man Jerry Seinfeld. Yes, the one that is supposed to “rival” the Mac ads with Justin Long. And I use the word “rival” loosely.
One can argue that the commercial is original, but I think the heads at Microsoft tried a bit too hard to connect to the audience with being overly ‘wacky’ and ‘hip.’ That is, if you can call eating a churro in a mall wacky and hip. Basically, all the jokes m

newVideoPlayer("/jsmicro_def.flv", 506, 423,""); In its bid to top the deceptively simple "I"m a Mac/I'm a PC" ad campaign of its rival, Microsoft went big, hiring auteur Michel Gondry to direct a commercial featuring Jerry Seinfeld alongside Bill Gates. For his involvement, Seinfeld was handsomely compensated to the tune of $10 million — a big number, but small potatoes compared to the whole ad campaign's rumored $300 million budget. For that kind of cash, you might expect the end result to be an or

Seinfeld, Gates make Microsoft ad debut
Microsoft's first spot in its $US300 million ($A370.14 million) advertising campaign to revamp its stodgy image features comedian Jerry Seinfeld and company founder Bill Gates in a quirky attempt to buy shoes at a discount store.

The ad shows Seinfeld advising the world's richest man on how to stretch cheap new shoes that are a little too small.

Microsoft Ad: Shoe Circus - Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates
This was a dumb, hacky attempt at trying to be cute and creative as the mac ads. Last I checked, Jerry Seinfeld isn’t that ‘hip’. At least Justin Long was banging Drew Barrymore and has now moved on to Spiderman snaggle-tooth, Kirsten Dunst.

We talked about this when they announced that Jerry Seinfeld had signed on to promote Windows for Microsoft. If you were watching the big NFL kickoff Thursday night, you might have seen what that looked like. If you missed it, it's embedded after the jump. I've watched the commercial a few times now, and I'm torn. I agreed with Brad's take in the original post, that Seinfeld may be a few years past the point of ideal pitchman.

Seinfeld, Bill Gates Waste 90 Seconds Not Talking About Microsoft [Advertising]
Less than two weeks after Microsoft confirmed that it had picked the Mac-loving Jerry Seinfeld as its new endorser, this ad with Seinfeld and Bill Gates is everywhere. And it is awful.
