Carly: 'Not that sad' to be eliminated from 'Idol'
Big-voiced American Idol contestant Carly Smithson chatted with reporters Thursday, following the tattooed singer's ouster Wednesday night. USA TODAY listened in on the conference call.
Q: What was going through your head last night when you made the bottom two?
A: At this stage, everybody's thinking they're going home. I'm actually not that sad to be leaving. I think I made enough of an impact to be able to reach a good fan base. And now I just get to be me without a theme night and make a really coo
Idol Shocker! Michael Johns Eliminated
It’s the end of the road for American Idol’s Michael Johns.
The Australian singer, who performed Aerosmith’s “Dream On” earlier this week, and was thrilled to participate in Idol Gives Back the following night, was sent packing in a surprising elimination Thursday.
Joined in the bottom three by Syesha Mercado and Carly Smithson, Johns looked shocked when host Ryan Seacrest announced that both women were safe.
“That means Michael has the lowest number of votes this week,” Seacrest s

Kanye West No Longer Has The Ability To Surprise Me [The Shock Of The Kanye]
With any outlandish celebrity, there seems to be a point where the ridiculousness of the news surrounding them no longer has the ability to shock the average consumer. Today's announcement that Kanye West is helping develop a "hip-hop puppet show" for Comedy Central has forced me to decree that the rapper/producer/design maven/blogger has reached that zenith of absurdity.
First, today's news.
Comedy Central has teamed with Kanye West for a project described as hip-hop meets the Muppets. A half-hou

1. Best diss:"At this point I was planning on doing a few more jokes, but Katherine Heigl told me my material wasn't Emmy worthy." – Conan O'Brien2. Best demand: Kathy Griffin ordering everyone to "GET UP!" for Don Rickles. Can we get Kathy to host next year?3. Most miscast: Josh Groban performing a medley of 30 of TV's most famous theme songs. Granted, he did Cartman and his Baywatch run superbly well, but couldn't they just have played these songs? 4. Most heartwarming tribute:
how the American Idol girls lost weight
According to ‘Shape Magazine’, Grammy-winning vegetarian Carrie Underwood has dropped between 15 and 20 pounds since her American Idol days. How did she do that? By hitting the treadmill, swimming and sticking to healthy foods. Although she admits to a weakness for cheese, Carrie prevents herself from overindulging by keeping a food diary and carrying around whole grain Kashi bars wherever she goes. Nice trick gurl!
As for Kelly Clarkson, the original queen of AI, she does not reportedly believ

Burning Q’s: The Idol Stage Parade & Fox Shots
Broadway is seen as a sort of stopgap, a way to keep a performer's career from hemorrhaging, down, down, down, into the stygian realm of Rosie O'Donnell family boat cruises.
"This is the next best thing" to a Kelly Clarkson-style music career, says entertainment attorney Brian Rosenblatt. "It allows them to continue to perform in front of a live audience, staying in the industry."
In other words, Idol grads such as Clay Aiken, Diana DeGarmo, Frenchie Davis and Tamyra Gray take the
And the Emmy wont go to the 60th Emmy Award Show…
ABC’s Sunday night telecast (Sept. 21, ‘08) received the lowest Nielsen rating ever. The show was 12% lower (preliminary numbers that are in) than last year’s show, when Ryan Seacrest hosted the Emmy’s on Fox. Maybe one host is better than 5 hosts and one stand-up comic?
There were a few factors, on the east coast, ABC was up against NBC’s Sunday Night Football broadcast of the Dallas Cowboys’ 27-16 defeat of the Green Bay Packers.
And many New Yorkers may have been

Ten comments about the 2008 Emmy Awards
1. Call him a dick for saying it, but Jeremy Piven’s dismissal of the opening of this year’s ceremony during his acceptance speech was right on the money. After that brief montage of stars quoting classic TV catchphrases, Oprah killed the show stone dead with her opening remarks, and the never-ending sequence by the reality-show hosts was downright painful. It was the worst beginning to an Emmy broadcast that I can remember.
2. I liked “Recount” as much as the next guy, but Tom Hoop
