Queen Latifah: *L. Londell McMillan, the new co-owner and executive publisher of The Source, was to host a re-launch party for the magazine last night at Home on West 27th Street to promote the I Am Change political group. The guest list included Queen Latifah, Gayle King, Lil' Kim, and Fabolous, reports the New York Post. McMillan, an entertainment lawyer who counts Stevie Wonder, Prince and Spike Lee as clients, took the magazine out of bankruptcy in August. The Source's previous owners, David Mays and Ray "Benzino" Scott, were pushed out in 2006, after Benzino forced editors to plug his rap group, Almighty RSO.

Movie reviews: The Secret Life of Bees, Max Payne, Sex Drive
Opens today at theaters everywhere; rated PG-13 for thematic material and some violence; 110 minutes.     Queen Latifah is quickly supplanting Morgan Freeman as Hollywood's favorite wise old black person, dispensing inspirational aphorisms to the suffering. In this sugary adaptation of Sue Monk Kidd's novel, Latifah plays August Boatwright, a South Carolina beekeeper and honey entrepreneur, circa 1964, who takes in Lily (Dakota Fanning), a 14-year-old running away from her abusive father (an

Spike Lee: “I’m Not Angry, Dammit!”
I just caught up to last week’s New Yorker profile of Spike Lee, who is pictured wearing a T-shirt reading, “Obama is the new black.” The article isn’t available online, but it’s got some great stuff in it. For instance, there is a scene in which Lee and the composer of the incredibly overwrought score for Lee’s latest flop, “Miracle at St. Anna,” seem to egg each other on to make the score even worse (”Was the brass big enough?” asks the composer
