Sean Penn: Photo: Getty ImagesNominees for the lesser Oscars the Golden Globe Awards were announced today, and we're sad to report that Milk got sorta snubbed. Oh well! At least Sean Penn is up for best actor (drama) and November cover boy James Franco (looking sweaty and stony, above) got a best actor (comedy or musical) nod for his lucid performance as the incorrigible drug dealer, Saul Silver, in Pineapple Express. That's about it, though! It goes to show: not all that glitters is gold...en globe worthy. (Pun'd!)Here are some other categories and stars that we'll be watching:> Titanic is back! (Not that it ever really left our hearts). Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio's iceberg-less reunion, Revolutionary Road, got the two nominations for best actor and actress. (Winslet will also be vying for best supporting actress in The Reader).> Winslet's two films (Revolutionary Road and The Reader) will be facing off in the best picture (drama) category against The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, and Slumdog Millionaire. We know it's not nominated, but we'll take Milk.> In the past year Meryl Streep acted twice, in Mamma Mia! and Doubt. Because Streep is showered with awards every time she emotes, the two performances have earned her best actress nods, in both the comedy/musical and drama categories, respectively.> "Glossy" and "premium" would be two words best used to describe the nominees for best television program in both the drama and comedy/musical categories. For some inexplicable reason Fox's House has been wedged in between HBO's In Treatment and True Blood, along with Showtime's highbrow-murder-porn Dexter and AMC's smash hit, Mad Men. NBC, king of primetime comedy, gets two nominees in the best comedy program for 30 Rock and The Office. They'll be battling it out with Showtime's Weeds and Californication and HBO's bromance series Entourage.> Out 100's 2007 cover girl, Mary Louise Parker is up for best actress (comedy/musical) for her wistful (read: stoned) performance as Nancy Botwin, everyone's favorite drug-dealing MILF. She'll be up against Debra Messing (The Starter Wife), America Ferrara (Ugly Betty), Tina Fey (30 Rock), and Christina Applegate (Samantha Who?).> Neil Patrick Harris (also an Out cover model) is nominated for best supporting actor (comedy/drama) for his straight-acting horndog character in How I Met Your Mother. Other noms in that category include Denis Leary (Recount), Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Blair Underwood (In Treatment), and Tom Wilkinson (John Adams).-- MIKE BERLIN

2009 Golden Globes: Good Year For Jokers, Midnight Tokers [The Gold Standards]
The nominees for the 2009 Golden Globes were announced this morning, and there were a few surprises. The nomination of Tom Cruise for Tropic Thunder drew giggles from the crowd, as did James Franco's nod for Pinapple Express. Apparently, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association thought Franco's performance as a lovable pot dealer was much more powerful than his portrayal of Harvey Milk's lover. Check out the rest of the nominations (and spot the snubs) after the jump.BEST PICTURE (DRAMA)• The Curious Case

The media world rarely pays attention, but The Golden Globes nominations often serve as a better predictor of Emmy success than Oscar -- recognizing new programs and performers with a speed that usually eludes the Emmy academy. In years past, that meant actors such as 30 Rock's Alec Baldwin and Mad Men's Jon Hamm got a Globe nod before Emmy learned their name. When nominations were revealed this morning, struggling dramas such as HBO's in Treatment and True Blood nabbed major acting nods, despite sometimes

And The Golden Globes Go To ... ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
The Hollywood Foreign Press announced their Golden Globe nominations and they must be getting as old as the Emmy and Oscar nominators. Usually the Globes can be counted on for some fresh picks but this year the choices are pretty straight-laced and staid. Especially since all the critics awards are pouring out and the love seems to be spreading all over for outside-the-box fare (listed all at the bottom). Here's the main Golden Globe nominations:BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMAThe Curious Case of Benjamin Butto
