Golden Globe Style Winners & Sinners

Christina Applegate: Much like New Year's Eve, the main event of an award show is usually the least interesting part. Whether it's getting dressed or pre-baring with your friends, the hours before usually stand out as the highlight. The award show equivalent is the miles long fashion parade that precedes every telecast. Thankfully, this year's crop of Golden Globes gowns did not disappoint - the spools of tulle, yards of fabric and truckloads of Spanx that assaulted our senses yesterday have left us with endless questions - why so many fabric growths ladies? So let's dive right in and discuss the highs, lows and those controversial styles that will spark much procrastination-friendly debate this morning! The Best Christina Applegate oozed regal-ocity (not a word?) in this gown infused with delightful Disney princess. Don't you just want to wrap her up in your arms and slow waltz around a grand ballroom just like The Beast did with Belle back in 1991? Seemingly dipped in 24-karat gold, Jennifer Lopez's gown calls to mind her most iconic and infamous plunging neckline. But where that Grammy dress was comprised of an almost see-through silk, this more luxe and lavish style only serves to further demonstrate how far Jenny from the Block has come since 2000. When you've got that face, that body and that soul, I'd imagine that picking out a gown becomes infinitely simpler - Angelina Jolie would be hard-pressed to find a style that didn't vault her onto every best dressed list. When you're an upstart actress, selecting the right Golden Globes gown can become more important than starring in a hit movie or TV show. If you shut it down on the red carpet, people will most likely remember that for much longer than if you're able to open a $20 million picture. Olivia Wilde definitely accomplished that goal - her Reem Acra gown is pink perfection - OK, technically she's lovely in lavender, but I always think of that as more of a scent than a color. Thank you Mary-Louise Parker! I haven't been this excited by some crisscross action since that boy band threw their clothes on backwards and told me to "jump! jump!" And only you could make a basket weave look sexier than a coke-fueled Hollywood orgy.
