Hugh Jackman as ‘Wolverine’ on Empire Cover
Along with gracing the cover with claws and mutton chops, Jackman gives some insight as to what fans can expect from the X-Men prequel: “There’s a scene in the first X-Men movie, where Wolverine’s introduced in a bar, fighting in a cage, and you felt that he did this every night of his life. If this movie is successful, you should feel that this guy can walk straight off the end of this film and into that bar.”
Jackman isn’t the only one talking for the cover article. The magazine

Second Full Trailer of 'Australia'
Another take on the epic drama where Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman are involved in a "rule breaking" romance.
Trailer Cache: Australia
The new trailer for Baz Luhrmann's Austrailia has us a little dumbfounded. The film, Mr. Luhrmann's first since striking the fancy of Oscar voters seven years ago with his multiple nominated revisionist musical Moulin Rouge!, features so many references to other movies that it's actually hard to keep up.
Mostly Australia culls from African Queen; Hugh Jackman actually appears to be wearing Humprhey Bogart's wardrobe from the John Huston film, while Nicole Kidman seems to be reading Katherine Hepburn's di

Zwick’s ‘Defiance’
Edward Zwick, director of Blood Diamond and The Last Samurai, brings you a film based on a true story called Defiance. Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, and Jamie Bell star in the film about three Jewish brothers who escape from Poland during World War II. They find refuge in the dense surrounding forest they have known since childhood. There they fight the Nazi’s. Whispers spread of their battles and more people (men and women, young and old) join them in their battle for freedom.

Came in 7th place yesterdayBut the big surprise was the mere 7th place opening Wednesday of 20th Century Fox's sweeping period epic Australia with only $2.5M from 2,642 theaters. This means that Fox was right to predict only $13M for the 3-day weekend and $18M for the 5-day holiday. Rival studios who thought the pic could do $25M and finish No. 4 are quickly pronouncing the pic DOA with a debut like this. ("Fox wasn't lowballing. I guess they knew how bad it was. And with

Kenneth Branagh In Talks To Direct “Thor”
Variety is reporting that Kenneth Branagh is in talks to direct Marvel’s live-action Thor, scheduled to hit theaters in 2010. The move by Marvel is a surprising one, considering Branagh is best known for his Shakespeare adaptations - and this is a whole different set of tights. Still, it continues a recent trend of putting arthouse directors behind the camera for superhero fare (Christopher Nolan, Wolverine’s Gavin Hood), and hopefully the results will be just as impressive. We all know ThorR

Strike a light ... it's Kidman and Jackman in the new trailer for Australia
Whether you enjoy them or not, and personally I'm not a fan, Baz Luhrmann's films always make an impact when they land, not least because he's made so few of them in a directing career stretching back to 1992's Strictly Ballroom. Since then, only 1996's Romeo + Juliet and 2001's Moulin Rouge have made it into cinemas, though there has been at least one misfire. Luhrmann was reportedly working on his own biopic of Alexander the Great before Oliver Stone came along and ruined everything with 2004's Alexander.
Branagh Could be Directing ‘Thor’
It’s not officially set in stone just yet, but Kenneth Branagh is in serious negotiations to direct the comic book adaptation of ‘Thor’. He would be joining Christopher Nolan, Jon Favreau, and Gavin Hood in the class of directors who moved on from art house classics to comic book heroes.
Written by Mark Protosevich (’I Am Legend’), ‘Thor’ is about a disabled medical student, Dr. Donald Blake, who discovers his heretofore unknown alter ego, the Norse warrior, Thor

New 'Australia' Trailer: A Romantic Adventure with Wolverine and The Others
If Crocodile Dundee II were a big-budget Lifetime Original Movie based loosely on Pearl Harbor, this is what it would look like. Except this is directed by Moulin Rouge's Baz Luhrmann, stars Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, and will surely be nominated for several Oscars, whereas the Lifetime version would be called Danielle Steel's Down Under, and would be watched by only sad housewives. It looks pretty good if you're into that whole sweeping, epic romance sort of thing (no one is judging you):
