Josh Brolin: By and large I love me some Oliver Stone. I will defend just about all of his work except for “Alexander”. But even I am not sure what to make of his take on the life and times of George W. Bush. “W.” opens in just over a month and each glimpse me leaves me simultaneously intrigued and skeptical. Will Oliver pull off something special? Your guess is as good as mine. In the meantime, here's an exclusive image.

'W.' trailer: Can his expose of George W. Bush get Oliver Stone back in the Oscars derby?
Oliver Stone's newest film, "W.," about the life of the current U.S. commander in chief could well put the three-time Oscar winner back in the derby. As you will see from the trailer, Josh Brolin eerily embodies George W. Bush, just as his father, James, bore a strong resemblance to President Ronald Reagan when he portrayed him in a 2003 TV miniseries. Oscar winners Richard Dreyfuss as Vice President Dick Cheney and Ellen Burstyn as Barbara Bush lend support as do Oscar nominee James Cromwell as Preside

Review: ‘The Hunting Party’ on DVD
‘The Hunting Party’ was co-written and directed by Richard Shepard whose last feature film was ‘The Matador’ (2005), which gained him some notoriety for his style. While that film did receive some critical acclaim, ‘The Hunting Party’ I believe is a bigger step up for Shepard. His writing and directing in this film has definitely benefited from a stronger pace and tempo and a refined sense of his own stylistic approach to the material. The story is based on an Esquire mag

Trailer for 'W' shows President Bush as party animal
Dubya won't be too happy with "W." President Bush is depicted as a rudderless young party animal in an upcoming Oliver Stone movie about his life, a trailer for the film shows. A youthful Bush is shown gambling, taking a swing at his famous dad and downing shots of booze in the 96-second clip promoting the flick. "What exactly are you cut out for?" asks by an actor playing the part of President George H.W. Bush. "Partying, chasing tail, driving drunk?" The younger Bush is depicted slamming his c

Police Used 'Aggressive' Force In Brolin Brawl?
Police who arrested Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Wright in a recent bar brawl have been accused of "aggressive" behavior, according to a new report. The cast and crew were celebrating the wrap of filmmaker Oliver Stone's forthcoming George Bush biopic "W" on Saturday when they allegedly got involved in a fight between revelers at the Stray Cat bar in Shreveport, La. Now a witness has revealed to the New York Daily News the squad of 10 police officers attending the incident "got aggressive," even blinding o

New Desk Series of Posters for Oliver Stone's W.
Given its controversial nature, we're definitely interested in every last marketing morsel that comes out for Oliver Stone's W. Last week at the Democratic National Convention we not only eyed a well-done billboard, but also a couple posters that were frames of Josh Brolin as George W. Bush, sitting and pondering something at his White House desk (perhaps what he thinks this movie will do to his career). MovieWeb brings us four more posters in that set, the collection of which is a damn smart execution of t

Trailer time. Pork rinds not included. Some trailers get people talking. These two have the conversation at a dull roar. New York, I Love You, which comes out early next year, is modeled after the French film Paris, je t'aime. Twelve filmmakers (Coen bros., Gus Van Sant, Wes Craven, Alexander Payne among them) try to capture the nature of romantic love in the big city in a string of five-minute movies. invitation to the White House, even if it comes a little earlier than she might've hoped. The singer, actress and avowed Democrat is being honoured by the Kennedy Center in December, a distinction that includes a reception at the White House - the last to be hosted by U.S. President Bush and first lady Laura Bush. And if that weren't enough cause for awkwardness, their potential meeting comes less than two months after Streisand's stepson, Josh Brolin, hits theatres playing Bush in the Oliver Stone-dire

‘Milk’ Trailer: Gus Van Sant Renews Our Faith in Great-Looking, Oscar-Baiting Biopics
Tagline: "You got to give 'em hope."Translation: We suppose 2008 may yet warrant on Oscar ceremony. The Verdict: This expertly cut trailer for Gus Van Sant's forthcoming Harvey Milk biopic offers possibly our best indication so far that this fall's cinema might include a few gems among the strike-affected rush jobs and Judd Apatow ripoffs. With Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Emile Hirsch, and James Franco, we're not sure where exactly Van Sant could've gone wrong, but we're glad to see he apparently didn't. Apologi

‘Milk’ poster, new pics
Brad Brevet over at Rope of Silicon has stumbled across some new pics from Gus Van Sant’s “Milk,” including this spiffy poster image. I like it. There isn’t a full sized version to offer and I can’t actually confirm that it is the official artwork, but it is damned cool. The “Join Him” line at the bottom is perfect, the saturated look, the period tone, etc. Good things. And even if it’s fan-made, I think it’s the right track for a film such as this.

First Look: 'W,' Oliver Stone's Bush Biopic
''Where is George Bush's bedroom?'' Oliver Stone is flinging open French doors inside an enormous brick man¬sion in Shreveport, La., inspecting loca¬tions for his new film about the 43rd President of the United States. ''This one is too small,'' he says. ''This one looks like George Tenet's bedroom. Where did we decide to put Bush's bedroom? It's around here somewhere, isn't it?'' Shooting begins in less than two weeks on W (or dub-ya, as it's spelled out in the initial sketches for the poster), but

Oliver Stone to trace George W. Bush's path from 'alcoholic bum' to president in controversial new biopic
Director Oliver Stone is set to make his most controversial film yet - a biopic of U.S. President George W. Bush. The liberal film-maker, who caused a storm with his study of John F Kennedy's assassination in JFK in 1991, and also upset many Americans four years later with his verdict on Richard Nixon, titled simply Nixon, is to give his film the shortest title yet, W. An outspoken critic of Bush's policies and the war in Iraq, he has cast No Country For Old Men star Josh Brolin as the man who becom

A Note I Sent to You -- Three Years Ago ...from Michael Moore
Friends, I'm speechless after listening to Barack Obama's speech last night. So I'm sending you something I wrote to you two weeks after Hurricane Katrina. It remains every bit as relevant today, on Katrina's 3rd anniversary, as when I wrote it on September 11, 2005. Please give it another look. Here it is in full: A Letter to All Who Voted for George W. Bush... from Michael Moore Dear Friends, On this, the fourth anniversary of 9/11, I'm just curious, how does it feel? How do

I Believe in Harvey 'Milk' Trailer. Get It? It's Like Harvey Dent
Harvey Milk was the first openly gay man elected to a public office in the U.S. (though some of the Founding Fathers seemed a bit iffy at times). He was then murdered by a fellow city supervisor who hated Harvey Milk being the first openly gay man elected to a public office in the U.S., because that's the American way. Gus Van Sant has made the story into a biopic starring Josh Brolin, James Franco, Emile Hirsch, Diego Luna, and Sean Penn as Milk, a role that will surely get him Oscar nominations and other
