Philip Seymour Hoffman: Yesterday, we reported that "Dark Knight" castmember Michael Caine claimed that as far as he knew, the villains for the next "Batman" film had been cast with Johnny Depp landing the role of The Riddler, and Philip Seymour Hoffman playing The Penguin. Today at the Toronto Film Festival, we went right to the source and asked Hoffman directly if he indeed had been cast as The Penguin.

"No one has talked to me about it ever - never," replied Hoffman. "It happened, like, five years ago, too. It was a rumor back then and its still a rumor. [laughs] It's just in the press. It's funny."

To further cement this issue, Hoffman added that he'd never met Nolan ("Maybe I did...

March From the Penguin: Hoffman Denies Batman Casting Rumor
Philip Seymour Hoffman, busy not being The Penguin.  Yesterday there were rumors running wild that Michael Caine had spilled the top secret news that Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman were locked in as, respectively, The Riddler and The Penguin in the next Batman movie. But now, has one of his main players revealed some of the biggest casting news of the decade? In an interview with MTV News conducted just hours ago at the Toronto Film Festival, Michael Caine — there to

Johnny Depp, Philip Seymour Hoffman as villains in 'Dark Knight' sequel?
Although nothing is official yet, Michael Caine is currently spilling details on who we may see in the roles of two popular Batman villains in the sequel to Christopher Nolan's ultra-successful "The Dark Knight." In a recent interview with MTV at the Toronto Film Festival, Caine said Warner Bros. is thinking about casting Johnny Depp as the Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman in the role of The Penguin. Well how about that? Here's a snippet of what Caine had to say: "I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive a

No Penguin in ‘Dark Knight’ Sequel?
The rumored casting of Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin was said to be confirmed by Alfred himself Michael Caine while in Toronto. So is it true? MTV went straight to the source and asked Hoffman himself, he says no. “No one has talked to me about it ever — never,” replied Hoffman. “It happened, like, five years ago, too. It was a rumor back then and it’s still a rumor. [laughs] It’s just in the press. It’s funny.” If he’s officially offered the r

By now, I'm sure you've all read about the rumors of Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman being considered to play The Riddler and The Penguin in the sequel to Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight." Unfortunately, as far as Hoffman is concerned, none of it is true. MTV talked to Hoffman today at the Toronto Film Festival, and this is what he had to say: “No one has talked to me about it ever — never.” He went on to say, “It happened, like, five years ago, too. Alfred Points to Depp and Hoffman as Riddler and Penguin in ‘Batman 3′
It is without a doubt one of the most hotly contested, debate, and speculated questions in geekdom at the moment: what villains will make their appearance in the third Batman movie, and who will play them. We’ve seen horrible rumors about Cher playing Catwoman. We haven’t even heard from Christopher Nolan as to whether he’ll even return immediately for a third. But we’re still debating it like it’s all cast in stone. But for the first time, there is a semi-legit half-confirmation from Michael Ca

Philip Seymour Hoffman Denies Penguin Rumor… Again
Michael Caine, look at what you’ve done! The Dark Knight star effectively reopened old rumors yesterday when he told MTV that the oft-rumored Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman were indeed in the running for roles in Nolan’s next Batman flick (you know, assuming it actually happens). But just as quickly, Hoffman shot those reports down, telling MTV: “No one has talked to me about it ever — never. It happened, like, five years ago, too. It was a rumor back then and it’s still a rum

Philip Seymour Hoffman Responds to PENGUIN Rumor
According to The Stone Report, at the Toronto International Film Festival, Philip Seymour Hoffman talked for the very first time about the rumor that he might play the villain PENGUIN in the next Batman movie. Yesterday, Michael Caine confirmed that he’s heard directly from the studio itself that Depp will play The Riddler and Hoffman will play the Penguin. But Hoffman’s statement basically sounds just like Depp’s response. He’s heard about it but he hasn’t been approached a

Philip Seymour Hoffman Not Interested in Playing The Penguin in Our Batman 3
Yesterday was a semi-significant day in movie blogger history, comparative to the invention of the “Who Farted?” t-shirt. When TDK actor and beloved old geezer, Michael Caine, told MTV that a Warner Bros. exec had mentioned Johnny Depp for The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman for The Penguin in Batman 3 (the borderline fan-fic sequel, hence the title), enlightened movie bloggers posted, podcasted, Twittered, filmed and pissed in snow diatribes like: “Enough!” “We have standar

More Crazy Rumors: Michael Caine Says Depp is Riddler, Hoffman is Penguin?!
Continuing on with even more crazy rumors today (the other being Will Smith as Captain America), the folks at MTV have seemingly scooped another few superhero casting updates. This time the casting surrounds the third Christopher Nolan Batman movie. We've heard these names mentioned together before, so it seems like this isn't anything besides rehashing rumors thrown around on the internet previously, but the source this time is Michael Caine. Apparently Caine was talking with an executive at Warner Brother

Johnny Depp Confirmed for ‘Dark Knight’ Sequel?
Caine tells MTV that he asked a Warner Bros. executive, “How the hell are we going to top Heath?” He was told, “I’ll tell you how you top Heath — Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.” I don’t know if it’s possible to top Heath Ledger as Joker, but that combination certainly at least gives you a shot Except I don’t really see this as any sort of casting confirmation. The unnamed WB exec never actually said they had them or were even pursuing them, it sounds

Philip Seymour Hoffman on 'Batman' Rumors: Why So Erroneous? [Batty]
In recent weeks, rumors that Philip Seymour Hoffman would play the Penguin in the next Batman installment have become so widespread that even Michael Caine began to repeat them as fact (claiming that he first read of them in a newspaper, then confirmed the rumors with a WB executive). However, if Hoffman is soon to don a monocle and top hat, this is the first he's heard of it (and he's totally going to miss his call time). Speaking to MTV News at the Toronto Film Festival, Hoffman said that much like a pers

Johnny Depp to play The Riddler, again, maybe
Soon after the release of The Dark Knight rumors began spreading that execs were looking at Johnny Depp for The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman for The Penguin. Possibly because people watched Depp play Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and thought, “Hey, Willy Wonka is kind of like The Riddler. So, if Depp can dial down the pedophilic undertones, he’d be perfect. Also, Philip Seymour Hoffman is portly and inadvertently comical, just like The Penguin!” Depp quickly shot

Well Hell. What should we think When Michael Cain Comes out and confirms Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman will be in Batman 3?
We’ve heard the rumors. Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin. I thought for sure these rumor have been killed and buried, for the fact that Nolan has yet to go back to Warner Bros and give them an idea if he decides to do make a third one! Also Johnny Depp knew nothing about it but liked the idea. Now the rumor is going back up on the map becuase Michael Cain has told MTV the following: “I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said, ‘Are we going to make
