Dakota Fanning: Teenage star Dakota Fanning has become a cheerleader at her high school.

The I Am Sam star has only been attending a regular private high school for the past year after being home schooled for six years, as her acting career took off - and she's already leading the cheers on the sports field.

She says, "I am a cheerleader. Now everybody always wants me to do cheers. It's so funny. Cheerleading is so much fun, especially at your school because you get such a sense of school spirit and you're proud of your school. I love that. I'm the one that's on top of the (human) pyramid; I'm the flyer, so that's fun too."

Film review: Hounddog
Nearly two years after a disastrous Sundance debut, the “Dakota Fanning rape movie” finally makes it to theaters.

An Unspeakable Act: 'Hounddog'
Known colloquially as "The Dakota Fanning Rape Movie" since its premiere at last year's Sundance Film Festival, Deborah Kampmeier's "Hounddog" arrives in theaters Friday after a long distribution struggle with a handicap that it just can't shake. Young Ms. Fanning plays Lewellen, a motherless 12-year-old growing up poor in the Deep South circa the mid-1950s. Living with her bitter grandmother (Piper Laurie) and disturbingly callous father (David Morse), Lewellen distracts herself from the...

Hounddog / ** (R)
"Hounddog" (R, 102 minutes). Dakota Fanning takes an impressive step forward in her career, but that's about the only good thing about "Hounddog." The reigning child star, now 14, handles a painful role with great assurance, even in a rape scene. But her character is surrounded by a swamp of worn-out backwoods Southern clichés than can't be rescued even by the other accomplished actors in the cast. With David Morse, Piper Laurie, Robin Wright Penn and Afemo Omilami. Rating: Two stars.

Down South
Deborah Kampmeier’s Hounddog, from her own screenplay, has survived a disastrous screening of a rough cut at 2007’s Sundance Film Festival to open next week in New York. As Julie Bloom described this high-wire act in the Arts and Leisure section of the Sept. 14 Sunday New York Times, “It was known as the ‘Dakota Fanning rape movie’ [at Sundance]. The press screening for Hounddog elicited actual boos, not to mention eviscerating reviews. Even before that, evangelical groups protested the film after

Controversial Sundance film is reworked, finds distributor
Writer-director Deborah Kampmeier was nearly run out of Park City during last year's Sundance Film Festival after critics savaged her coming-of-age drama "Hounddog," in which a 12-year-old girl, played by Dakota Fanning, is raped by a much older boy.     Even before the film's premiere, such conservative groups as the Christian Film & Television Commission and the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights strongly objected to the scene.     "People were petitioning to ha

A Spaghetti Cat Imposter
Facebook has caught on to the Spaghetti Cat craze, which has officially legitimized the feline's celebrity. But unfortunately for SC, who is now featured in the SuperPoke application, he is being falsely represented by a Hello Kitty impostor (as accurately pointed out by rumor has it). Would it have killed the designers to at least make the cat black, if they weren't going to use the actual image of SC? This is an outrage. Sep 17, 2008 · posted by Whitney · Link &mid

'Hounddog': Woof, By Kurt Loder
"Hounddog" — yes, "the Dakota Fanning rape movie" — is a Southern Gothic gumbo of surpassing gaudiness, Kurt Loder writes.

Review: Hounddog
Short version: Were it not for the Dakota Fanning rape scene controversy, no one would be talking about this boring film. So you've heard all the talk, accusations and screaming about the film Hounddog (or as many spelling-impaired people are writing it: Houndog) screening at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival starring Dakota Fanning but haven't seen [...]

Film critic calls for boycott of films with explicit sex scenes of young girls
Washington, Sept 20 (ANI): Movieguide founder Ted Baehr has joined the ranks of protestors fighting against two movies featuring sexually explicit scenes involving two young girls. Baehr along with other protestors called for a box office boycott of the films "Hounddog", starring 14-year-old Dakota Fanning and "Towelhead", starring 18-year-old Summer Bishil. In "Hounddog", Fanning was depicted as a pre-teen girl who was raped, and the movie drew controversy when it appeared at the Sundance Film Festival la

US-FILM Summary (Reuters)
Reuters - In 2007, "Hounddog" went to the Sundance Film Festival carrying a controversy that made it the hottest ticket in town, but it left that January after getting a cold shoulder from film distributors and critics. But now, "Hounddog," starring young Dakota Fanning, is howling again with Friday's debut in U.S. theatres roughly 18 months after its difficult Sundance premiere, and few people are as happy as its writer and director Deborah Kampmeier.
