Photos: stars come out for the Palm Springs Film Festival Awards gala
The 20th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards gala took place in Palm Springs, California last night and as a warm-up for the weekend’s Golden Globes, it was attended by many of this year’s acting elite.
Guests included Leonardo DiCaprio, Anne Hathaway, Ben Stiller, Sean Penn, Amy Adams, Josh Brolin, Mira Sorvino, Dakota Fanning, Clint Eastwood and Dustin Hoffman.
Palm Springs Film Festival Gives Props To Clint & Leo
There were a number of old-school Hollywood heavy hitters at the Palm Springs Film Festival. Donald Sutherland, Dustin Hoffman and Clint Eastwood
represented for the silver-haired crowd. Clint, the grizzled old
bastard, showed up to accept his Career Achievement Award. Good for
him. I saw him once on a red carpet and I can't imagine a more
intimidating individual to meet in person.
Anne Hathaway @ Palm Springs Film Festival
It’s nice to see Anne Hathaway look all glammed up for the 2009 Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Got Milk? I'll Take Vicky and Cristina in Barcelona! My Faves From '08
It suddenly occurred to me just before I started grinding out my year-end summaries and 10-best lists that I have been engaged in this activity for a very long time. If my increasingly faulty memory is correct, this marks the 50th anniversary of my published 10-best lists, dating back to Jonas Mekas’ Movie Journal in The Village Voice sometime in 1958 or 1959 for the New York releases of 1958. Mr. Mekas kindly offered the hospitality of his column to a few of his colleagues, of whom I was one, even though

CROWD HATER
Anne Hathaway doesn't always act like such a good girl. Monday night, the star stopped by Tiffany for the "Bride Wars" premiere bash, but quickly ran off to party with more privacy. While Kristen Wig, Dina Lohan and Damien Fahey mingled about the jewelry mecca, Hathaway was spotted by one of our spies "smoking cigarettes and playing pool" at the Gramercy Park Hotel's Rose Bar. Harvey Weinstein was also there with Sean Penn and Josh Brolin, who "were surrounded by

World-Class Clothes At Palm Springs International Film Festival [The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly]
The 20th anniversary of the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala, presented by Cartier and held at the Palm Springs Convention Center, brought Anne Hathaway, Freida Pinto, Amy Adams and more, looking amazing. The Good:Did I stare at Freida Pinto for like ten minutes, paralyzed by her beauty? Yes, and she could probably wear a sack. But this flirty aqua happens to be darling. Not my absolute fave on Anne Hathaway (that detailing...?), but she looks elegant and lovely. On anyone but a child this
Palm Springs basks in the glow of a starry awards night
They're getting serious awards buzz, but stars at the Palm Springs Film Festival on Tuesday were happily humble.
"All these famous people keep arriving and I keep turning my head to see who it is, but I don't count myself as one of them," Rachel Getting Married star and Desert Palm Achievement Award winner Anne Hathaway said.
Milk star Sean Penn chatted about the significance of the evening.
"It really just brings awareness to a film that everyone really worked hard on and everybody just love
The Best Films of 2008: A movie trivia post! :D
It's the end of the year, and we're all bored and maybe a little hung over and probably broke from the holidays. It's been a slow news day and it's a Sunday with nothing to do, so I got bored and decided to make a movie trivia post! I've seen them on ONTD before, but I decided to only pick trivia tidbits from Moviephone's 50 Best Movies of 2008, instead of picking random titles as others have done in the past. Because all of these movies are new, not every single one has trivia or they have very little, but
Josh Brolin Upset About Crowe Comments
Josh Brolin has publicly apologised for comments he made about Russell Crowe at the New York Film Critics Awards on Monday night (05Jan09).The Milk star has blamed his alcohol intake and the "ambiance" of the prizegiving for what he said to the Big Apple's film experts.Brolin took the stage at the glitzy dinner after award winner and Milk co-star Sean Penn poked fun at him, and decided to lash out at Crowe - his American Gangster co-star, stating, "Quite the actor, that Sean Penn. He’s not an a*
Josh Brolin on Sean Penn, Russell Crowe
I'm sure they're both jerks, but I like Josh Brolin better than Russell Crowe, so I thought this was funny...
Brolin ripped Russell Crowe, who co-starred with him in "American Gangster." Praising Sean Penn in "Milk," he growled, "Quite an actor Sean Penn . . . Amazing. Not an asshole like Russell Crowe."
Are Sean Penn and Josh Brolin in Love?
In Gus Van Sant's Harvey Milk biopic, Milk, Josh Brolin and Sean Penn may play personal and political enemies, but at last night's New York Film Critics Circle Awards, it was a regular love-in between the actors. Taking the stage to present Brolin with the trophy for Best Supporting Actor, Penn affectionately referred to his co-star as "this bitter actor who took until he was 40 for anyone to know him." But most of his speech was about Brolin's striking handsomeness: "His hair is very high tonig
Josh Brolin: Russell Crowe is an "a-hole"
At the New York Film Critics Awards dinner, Josh Brolin won Best Supporting Actor for his work in Milk. He called Russell Crowe, his co-star in American Gangster, an "a-hole." The exact quote: "Quite an actor, Sean Penn. And not an a-hole like Russell Crowe." He then repeated: "Like Russell Crowe."
James Franco Post
'Milk' actor James Franco cracks the booksLike most grad students, James Franco looks a little bit weary, like he has been living on too many cups of coffee and too little sleep for some time now. He's plugging away at a master's degree, and that's not easy - particularly if you're trying to sustain a Hollywood career on the side. And Franco, who played Harry Osborne in the first three "Spider-Man" movies and toked up with Seth Rogen in this summer's surprise hit, "Pineapple Express," is definitely doing all
Josh Brolin's \"Jonah Hex\" Gets An Animated Director
by Andy Hunsaker, Fancast Movies
Jimmy Hayward, director of the first decent Dr. Seuss film adaptation Horton Hears A Who, has signed on to direct Josh Brolin in Jonah Hex, which will be an adaptation of another popular picture-book, this one a much more adult story centering on a disfigured ex-Confederate soldier turned ruthless badass bounty hunter.
If you want to know more about Hayward, check out the interview I did with him this spring when Horton hit theaters. He's a pretty cool cat, and I can ce
Anne Hathaway Gets Metaphysical In Palm Springs Acceptance Speech
All of Hollywood is buzzing about this today:
Anne Hathaway, a Desert Palm Achievement Award recipient, seemed to lose the audience while discussing “process metaphysics.” That prompted a surprised comment from almost always perky emcee, Mary Hart. “Did I hear that from backstage correctly? We just got into metaphysics? Whatever happened to good ol’ blonde bimbos?” [...]

Anne Hathaway's Impressive Vocabulary Confuses 'ET' Anchor [Anne Hathaway]
Entertainment Tonight's Mary Hart has just about had it with these smarty-pants actresses like Anne Hathaway. Whatever happened to your Loni Andersons? Your Lydia Cornells? Your Barbi Twins?Hathaway found out firsthand just how little the ET anchor cares for her knowledge-knowing at the Palm Springs International Festival, where the actress was being honored for her work in Rachel Getting Married. Sadly, her acceptance speech struck the wrong note for some, who will only tolerate her erudite rambling when s
