DVD Review: Fey Shines on '30 Rock' Season 2

www.buddytv.com - 6th Oct 2008

Tina Fey: This year 30 Rock became the first comedy to win consecutive Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series in 10 years. The second season, which also won Emmys for stars Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin, will be released on DVD tomorrow with all 15 episodes and plenty of bonus features to make the listed price of $37.99 more than fair. The two-disc set is full of plenty of audio commentaries, deleted scenes, and, perhaps best of all, a recording of 30 Rock Live, the staged reading of one of the episodes the cast performed at the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater to benefit the show's crew during the writers' strike. Season 2 of 30 Rock featured countless memorable guest stars, and one of the surprising treats of the DVD set is that some of those guest Read full story at www.buddytv.com

Does Alec Baldwin Have His Own Sarah Palin Impression? You Betcha [Not Got To Allow That]
newVideoPlayer("/alechp_def.flv", 506, 423,""); Tina Fey had better watch her back — if she continues with her cutting Sarah Palin impressions on Saturday Night Live, she might find herself fired (or sniped from above thanks to a far-afield Alaskan helicopter). Fortunately, her 30 Rock costar Alec Baldwin will be available to step into the breach: he unveiled his own Sarah Palin impression on Friday's edition of Real Time with Bill Maher. While the vocal mimicry isn't quite up to par with Fey's (or B

Tina Fey gets big bucks to pen book - Kevin Bacon working on ‘John Wilkes Booth’
Tina Fey is a hot hot commodity in Hollywood and she has now signed an exclusive book deal - after her recent Emmy triumph sparked a bidding war between the world’s leading publishers. The 30 ROCK creator swept the board at the Primetime Emmy Awards last month (Sep08), picking up gongs for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress. Publishers soon realized the prospects of having Fey on their roster and began a bidding war. Fey has now signed with publisher the Little, Brown Book Group, in a

Be Tina Fey on Halloween! How to do Sarah Palin's hair
Planning to be Sarah Palin for Halloween but not sure how to do her emblematic ?do? You don?t need to head to the beauty shop in Wasilla, Alaska, to look like the Republican vice-presidential nominee. ??It?s really more of a casual up-do than anything else, with teasing here and there for height or support,?? said Billy Lowe, celebrity stylist and beauty expert.

The Cult of Tina Fey [Pop Culture]
Tina Fey—nerd-girl hero, Saturday Night Live alum, 30 Rock writer/actor—just signed a book deal. It was "reportedly pitched as a book of humorous essays in the style of Nora Ephron," said the Observer. (Hopefully it'll be funnier than that.) Successful SNL alums doing a humor book or half-baked movie spin-off is unremarkable. But a multi-million dollar advance and the defining pop culture moment of her a-little-too-accurate Sarah Palin impression is further evidence of her gathering stardom. Als

A Little More on Pigs... [Politics]
"The New York Times has an article about me calling columnist Heather Mallick a pig," blogs Greta van Susteren via Foxnews.com. "Yes, I called a columnist—in a calm, cool voice—a pig for saying that the nominee for Vice President looks like a porn star." Well, Greta: you can be "happier than a pig in shit" or you can be a "thoughtless little pig," like Alec Baldwin called his daughter via voicemail. You can even be a capitalist pig. We've discussed the lexicon of contemporary vulgarities before,

In the Battle of the British Funnymen, Simon Pegg Calls Ricky Gervais a 'Fat Idiot' [Pick Your Side]
In the annals of celebrity feuds, we tend to prefer the light-hearted frivolity of a Seth Green/Shia LeBeouf dustup to the knock-down, "no one gets away unscathed" fights like Alec Baldwin on Greg Garcia. That's why we're so stymied by the latest and most unlikely entry in the feud genre: the war of words between Shaun of the Dead star Simon Pegg and Ricky Gervais, the Emmy-honored creator of Extras and The Office. So far, the battle (instigated by Pegg's mouthy appearance on a British radio show) is one-si

Book deal 'worth millons' for Fey
Tina Fey, who has become world renowned for her deadly accurate impersonation of US Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, has reportedly signed a book deal worth millions. Fey was already well known in the US as the host Saturday Night Live, on which the Palin sketches air, and as an actress on spoof TV show '30 Rock', but she has connected with a massive new audience courtesy of the US Presidential election. According to Reuters, the New York Post has reported that the deal is worth more

Tina Fey Rolling With Palin Character On SNL, Book Deal
Hollywood (ChattahBox) - It is clear that Tina Fey is on a roll, as she has a hot TV show with NBC’s 30 Rock, a great character as Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live, and now a major book deal. Tian Fey has signed a huge book deal with Little, Brown Book Group, and will be writing comedy stories. These comedy stories could come in the form of a memoir from her own life. There is no word on how much money she received for the book deal. It is believed though that she will get around $6 million from

Alec Baldwin was “horrified” at himself when he heard his message to Ireland
A lot of people were pretty horrified at the things Alec Baldwin said to his daughter, Ireland, on the now infamous phone message, but no one more than Baldwin himself.  The recent Emmy winner said he’s apologized to Ireland and acknowledges his words were wrong, but maintains it never should have been heard around the world without his permission. At an appearance promoting his new book, A Promise to Ourselves: A Journey Through Fatherhood and Divorce, Baldwin directly addressed the issue and expr

Economic Forecast: Mostly Cloudy, With a Chance of Alec Baldwin [Leaping Lizards]
For all its success on paper, Saturday Night Live is essentially making its pop-culture bones these days with an ex-cast member imitating a woman who might be completely irrelevant in six weeks. But some phenomena never expire, and when you combine the enduring miracle of Alec Baldwin with the current, overriding stench of economic recession, one SNL highlight alone stands out today for its chemistry and prescience: Reliable Investments, featuring Baldwin as a broker with all the answers for Ana Gasteyer. 'SNL' Moves To Next Level With Gimp-Hindered Sister Act And A Donkey-Curious Mark Wahlberg [Say Hi To Your Mother For Me]
While much has been made of Tina Fey's return to SNL this season—starring as Sarah Palin in a series of pitch-perfect cold-opens that could well be the only things preventing a frayed America from tumbling off a flat Earth's edge—this week's episode also brought two other hilarious and viral-worthy sketches we thought we'd share. The first involves a Lawrence Welk Show-era sister act with a dark, attic-bound secret, played by Kristen Wiig. The second features Andy Samberg as Max Payne star Mark

Tina Fey Hits the Jackpot
Tina Fey, comedian and Emmy-winning TV star has been in talks with a number of publishers regarding a book deal, but with her recent popularity on Saturday Night Live the Sarah Palin-lookalike landed in a bidding war. Her alter-ego Liz Lemmon on the hit show 30 Rock may not be used to being at the center of a tug-o-war but the veteran actress, Fey, seems to know how to handle herself having made a decision and signing a deal with Little, Brown Book Group.   The New York Post has

Tina Fey Signs $5 Million Book Deal
Looks like Tina Fey is about to lose a bit of her downtime because she has officially signed a $5 million book deal! Yeah, that's for one book. Fey has signed with publisher the Little, Brown Book Group after a little bidding war.  According to New York gossip column PageSix, the book will not be Fey’s memoir, but will be "non-fiction humor" to fit in with the star’s performance style on America’s Saturday Night Live. Speaking of Tina, here she is alongside Jane Krakowski, and Peter Din

DVD Review: The Hunt for Red October (Blu-Ray)
The Hunt for Red October is hands-down the best film in the Jack Ryan series for a number of reasons, but first and foremost is the lack of a major villain. Instead the conflict is provided by the cryptic world of international politics and tense foreign relations that are all too real. Obviously there are villainous characters, but their roles are minor and are often interjected to give the plot a single push when needed. A young Alec Baldwin plays a Jack Ryan who believes in others more than he believes

Why Tina Fey's Self-Deprecation Is Good For Women [Lemony Goodness]
Fellow Tina Fey-natic blogger Kate Harding has a quibble with the Emmy-winning 30 Rock star. It bugs her that Tina Fey makes fun of her own looks in her comedy. "Even if she thinks of herself as a geeky underdog," Harding writes, "these days, the woman is fucking conventionally gorgeous. Whenever there’s a crack about her looks on 30 Rock, I’m torn between being sad that she apparently doesn’t see that in herself and being pissed off that she’s reinforcing the idea that having brown hair, glasses, a

Tina Fey Books A Big Deal
Between raking in the Emmys for her hard work on NBC's 30 Rock, and killing her weekly SNL impressions of Sarah Palin, the funny lady's name is on the tip of everyone's tongue. And now she's about to be on everyone's nightstand, as well. Tina has reportedly signed a major book deal with Little, Brown Book Group, and will be penning some sort of hilariously funny stories -- possibly a memoir. The exact amount of cash the talented lady is raking in for her thoughts was not released, but the New York Post sai

Palin ponders a Tina Fey spoof
There's speculation that Tina Fey will appear on SNL's Thursday night election special, but the real question is: will Sarah Palin appear? According to the Chicago Sun-Times' Bill Zwecker, some of Palin's staffers are happy that she is joking about the SNL routines on the campaign trail -- she scribbled "I'm not Tina Fey" on a supporter's cell phone - and are in favor of taking to the NBC airwaves to provide more humor. It's "possible" that Palin could do "some sort of Palin tweak o
