Notable/Quotable [Coco Chanel]
Shirley MacLaine is playing Coco Chanel in a Lifetime movie airing Saturday, and in a new interview, the actress reveals her admiration for the legendary designer. "She was tough and she never backed down," MacLaine says. "She never married. She was rude, hurtful. Many men were in love with her — though I don't know why, because she was impossible. She was 73 when she got so popular, and she was always reinventing herself. I like that." As for MacLaine's personal style, she claims: "I like senior-forg

Coco Chanel - An early look
Filed under: Celebrities, Early Looks, Reality-FreeOnce upon a time, Hollywood made movies like Lifetime's Coco Chanel all the time. Watching this excellent TV movie starring Shirley MacLaine as the older Coco and newcomer Barbora Bobulova as young Coco, I was enthralled and entertained.

In the works: Aaron Sorkin and Facebook are now friends.
Aaron Sorkin has a Facebook page. It says that Aaron Sorkin is writing a Facebook movie:
Welcome. I'm Aaron Sorkin. I understand there are a few other people using Facebook pages under my name--which I find more flattering than creepy--but this is me. I don't know how I can prove that but feel free to test me.
I've just agreed to write a movie for Sony and producer Scott Rudin about how Facebook was invented. I figured a good first step in my preparation would be finding out what Facebook is, so I've sta
"Coco Chanel" telepic boasts pleasing aroma
Not that there isn't enough truth here, it's just that whatever might have been truly a wart or flaw in Chanel's character (she was said to have a lover who was a Nazi, for one) is beautifully veiled or just plain missing. No matter. This original movie is a delight to watch.
This is no brief encounter with Coco. With its three-hour running time, it lingers maybe a little too long in some places and not long enough in others. We could have been spared much of the movie's first hour, where

Hinckley: Fashioning a stellar portrait
Shirley MacLaine will get most of the attention for playing fashion legend Coco Chanel in this smart-looking and solidly crafted new Lifetime biopic premiering Saturday night. And that's fair. MacLaine has her own legend, and in "Coco Chanel," she adeptly handles a wider and subtler character than many of the charming, slightly off-center old dames she has played in recent years. But for some of us, the movie kicks into another gear when MacLaine's doyenne Coco starts to reminisce about her youth and where
